Songs that remind you of Dwarf

Aside from obvious things like songs referenced in the show, or the backing music for featurettes, which songs on your playlist make you think of the small rouge one?I’ll start…

Tenacious D – Wonderboy

How about the power to kill a yak, from 200 yards away, with MIND BULLETS! That’s telekenisis, Kyle!

I always expect KG to reply “telekeni-what-isis?”.

Queen – No-One But You

One by one,
Only the good die young.

A very beautiful and emotional song, ruined by images of Freddie Mercury kneeing Death in the bollocks. Although, to be fair, it does still make my bottom lip quiver when Brian sings “I ain’t never ever saying goodbye”.

Sheryl Crow – Every Day Is A Winding Road

I hitched a ride with a vending machine repair man.

He said “dispenser 159, chicken soup nozzle clogged”.

Soul II Soul – Back To Life (However do you want me?)

Back to life,
Back to reality.

The last two songs aren’t on my playlist, by the way. I cheated.

  1. Everyday is a winding road is an excellent song, whatever you say, Ian.

  2. River Runs Red – Midnight Oil

It has nothing to do with “Red”, by the way – Midnight Oil’s a progressive rock band and it’s a song about the environment being destroyed. This song reminds me of the bit in the novel “Better Than Life” when Lister’s on Garbage World and realises he’s actually on Earth. So not Red Dwarf, but one segment of it.

I’m not going to post the lyrics ‘cos it’s basically the whole song.

  3. I have an mp3 of an Aussie band called Butterfingers, the songs called figjam mix or something. And it includes this lovely bit.

    Smoke me a kipper, bitch.

  4. AC/DC – Jailbreak

#There was a friend of mine on murder,

    And the judge’s gavel fell,

    Jury found him guilty,

Gave him sixteen years in hell.

I’ve never so much as returned a library book late. Second-degree murder? A thousand people? I would have remembered!

  5. Some Eminem song (“Lose Yourself” perhaps?) has the line, “Back to reality, whoops, he comes gravity.”

I’m not an Eminem fan at all but it got massive radio exposure over here and the Back to Reality line always made me smile.

  6. I meant “here comes gravity” of course.

He doesn’t come gravity. That would be hideous.

  7. Anything by Napalm Death.

  8. Beatles – Don’t Pass Me By

#You were in a car crash,

    And you lost your hair.

Just tell them you took your car to the crushers and forgot to get out.

  9. Muse – Shrinking Universe

“…then there’s the big crunch, right, and the Universe starts contracting”

You are the God of a shirnking Universe

It could even be about Lister! I doubt it, though.

  10. The Last of the Famous International Playboys by Morrissey:

Ooooh, yeah, no, yeah, no, yeah, no, yeah.

  11. Strictly, thats not Dwarf, though dear.

  12. The White Stripes – Little Acorns

[Spoken:] She told me that late one autumn day when she was at her lowest, she watched a squirrel storing up nuts for the winter. One at a time, he would take them to the nest. And she thought, ‘If that squirrel can take care of himself, with a harsh winter coming on, so can I. Once I broke my problems into small pieces, I was able to carry them, just like those acorns: one at a time.'”

And at that moment, I mean for a split second, I would have given anything – *anything* – to swap places with him.

  13. “I always expect KG to reply “telekeni-what-isis?”.”

    Why not “teleke-what-inisis”?
