  1. Woah, that isn’t Robert (at least, I don’t think so…) but the suit and mask are as good as the series. The mask in particular is of later series quality. Strange pics. Why were they taken?

  2. On the contrary, that IS Robert. I first saw those pics over ten years ago in the magazine spin-off from “Movies, Games and Videos”. Robert appeared in an issues in 1994 publicising ‘Smeg Ups” and talking about a possible seventh series.

  3. Problem solved. But Robert does look different in some of those pics.

  4. The mask looks a bit odd, for a start – but that could be partly the quality of the scans. As it *costs* to get him in the mask, I wonder if it was all done on the same day as shooting the Smeg Ups links?

(Actually, I’m sad enough to wonder what days the shooting of Smeg Ups and Smeg Outs actually *were*. Oh dear.)

  5. Maybe someone who doesn’t hate Robert’s site could post this link in his guestbook and ask if he remembers why they were taken?

  6. It’s an awfully white mask, but that’s probably more due to bad lighting than anything else.

And I haven’t visited Robert’s site in ages. Flash isn’t my friend, it’s a funking idiot.

  7. Right, someone must know the dates that the Smeg Ups and Smeg Outs links were done. In fact, not knowing those dates officially makes everyone a non-Red Dwarf fan starting from now. If these shots were done to promote Smeg Ups then you would assume that they were shot on the same day as the Smeg Ups links. What was that date? And why have these pics appeared now?

  8. Smeg Outs was filmed at DJ ’95.

  9. One or two of the links for Smeg Outs were filmed over the DJ95 weekend (plus footage of the convention and the poll for the ‘best scene ever’). July 1995, then.

No idea about Smeg Ups though. If my memory serves me correctly, this video came out of nowhere with no previous mention from TORDFC.

I *think* that Robert Llwellyn was at an HMV signing in London in full Kryten gear for one of the videos. That could be bollocks, but it certainly explains what he was doing posing by a London bus.

As for the white-ness of the mask, you may have to blame that on the quality of the scans. Or possibly the weather. Seems that in cold conditions, the mask gets a bit paler (see the location stuff in Terrorform). Just an opinion.

  10. Ah, beaten by Ian the Smegmeister.

Yes! There’s a picture of it on the front cover of BTL #16.

    > Ian the Smegmeister

Who would use a nickname that shit? What a prick.
