  1. :) Hilarious. Especially the second one.

  2. Glee.

I think even my shitty computer and shittier connection can handle these clips. Now, if you’ll excuse me…

‘Disaster for Coleman!’ is such a brilliant line.

I don’t?know who wrote the first sketch, but the second was written by Moray Hunter and Jack Docherty. It’s pretty much the *perfect* one-minute sketch.

Blimey… Alan Partridge on The Day Today owes quite a bit to Barrie’s Coleman, doesn’t he?

That’s a good point, Capps. Particuarly as Coogan worked on Spitting Image, of course…

Meanwhile, here’s We’re scared of Bob – written by Rob and Doug (and Phil Pope, of course). What so many people forget about Spitting Image is that it’s not just about the puppets – it’s just a fucking great sketch show whichever way you look at it.

  6. Coogan admitted that Partridge basically started out as a David Coleman impression. They wanted a generic sports commentator voice and that’s what he did. You can’t say he ripped Chris.

That’s why it would be shit if they brought it back. They would think that having the puppets and Jon Culshaw and Jan Ravens doing some voices would be enough, but you need the frakkin’ material to make it actually funny. Another thing, in my honest opinion, straight impressions aren’t funny UNLESS they have the person saying or doing something that IS funny.

I don’t think it would neccessarily be shit if they brought it back.

But they would need a fucking good writing team for it to work, yes. The credits of early Spitting Image read like a who’s-who of 80s comedy.
