Smeggy Goo!

After eight years of downtime, Friend of G&T Mick Hayes has relaunched the Red Dwarf search engine Smegoo!, ready to serve literally all of your Red Dwarf searching needs.

What with me being an Internetless prick pre-1999 I don’t remember the original incarnation of the engine (masterminded by Mick and Jeoff Forbes and shown in all its glory here, through the site’s DwarfWiki entry), but it seems this relaunch is very, very impressive indeed.

Now (ironically, given the name) powered by Google, Smegoo! provides an incredibly powerful and concise search of all the best Red Dwarf resources such as TOS, PlanetSmeg, Pile O Smeg, The Holoship Enlightenment, G&T and various other databases such as Wikipedia and IMDb. The upshot is you get relevant, high-quality results without all the crap that your average Google trawl would bring.

On top of that, famous scripts webpage Silicon Hell is fully indexed, and the thought of a complete set of Dwarf transcripts being searchable frankly makes me overheat with joy. It’s a great addition to the Dwarf online community, helped along by the fact that is both a great idea coupled with excellent execution.

Hmm… me wonders if this could be implemented as a Firefox plug-in…

  2. Waaaay ahead of you, just working out the code, should be available soon!
There will also been some html for folks to paste into their pages for a mini Smegoo! search box.

    I fucking love you.

You’re not alone in the overheating. This kind of access to information makes writing articles all the easier (as even tho’ I have a lot of RD scripts on my computer, if I want to look up a certain line or scene I end up having to guess which series and episode it’s in). My glee is unbounded. (And I already put a link to Smegoo! in the Holoship’s Linkys section, along with Llewtube for those of us who like direct access to it, and the Starbug Diaries which I’m ashamed to admit I’d forgotten to link to until now.)

also: “Smeggy Goo”? Is this G&T recovering its editorial stride in terms of disgusting obscene article titles? Or am I simply reading too much into it?

Pff, you’re the one with the filthy mind here, Arlene, no one else…

  6. >Oh dear.

You fowl mouthed people, I’m ashamed in you all.

  7. Hey, even I showed up in there, along the bottom of page three or so. I’m a little proud of myself.

Also, CUNT SHIT FUCK WANK BITCH HELL DAMN and CUNT again.

I think I may start my next episode review with that. That’ll get me at the top of that search page.

  8. Also try ‘wank’ and ‘bollocks’
