  • Well, the justice system has an ability to be slow in doing… anything, so even if he does get jail time, it will be October next year before they find a cell.

In all actuality, he will probably be put on a good behaviour bond and given a fine of some sort.

  • >but John-Jules, wearing just a dressing gown and his wife’s slippers

Christ, it’s so lame it sounds like Ouroborua.

  • Jesus, even though there was no evidence of a knife being used… spitting, punching and kicking them to the ground over a bin? What a complete tool.

  • I just still can’t imagine how someone dressed in a dressing gown and his wife’s slippers can successfully overpower, punch and kick (in slippers remember!) not one but TWO fully dressed men with (I assume) work boots on.

It’s not like Danny is a particularly big fella. Just all seems very odd.

  • Yeah OK have a go at the guys for not emptying the bin but I seriously doubt that he would then go on to start punching and kicking them unless he was being provoked himself. I mean, even a contestant (I always call them that) on the Jeremy Kyle Show with a history of violence would have to be provoked before getting to that level over such a matter. I’m guessing the whole thing’s still being over-exaggerated.

  • >Mr Lisiecki Snr described how the actor told him ‘f*** you, you f***ing c***’, before lashing out.

    I think he’s been visiting G&T

  • >I just still can?t imagine how someone dressed in a dressing gown and his wife?s slippers can successfully overpower, punch and kick (in slippers remember!) not one but TWO fully dressed men with (I assume) work boots on.

This is a good point, but you can floor the biggest of people if you take them by surprise. Those two men won’t have expected to be assualted at work, and we don’t know how well-built they were, either. I guess it depends on the testimony of witnesses, but at the very least, Danny seems to have some anger issues…

  • This is quite a fascinating and worrying story really..

I guess an attack as described could be down to Danny’s fitness and agility more than anything, something binmen are not reknown for in truth.
The whole ‘knife’ thing is all very strange but would have made things far worse if it actually ever exsisted. We’ll never know the full story I suspect nor what level of provocation was involved but the bottom line is that there’s a high level of stupidy on Danny’s part.

I’m no law expert but doubt a prison sentance will happen but given that this was a magistrates court I assume he must have pleaded guilty to some kind of assault. whether this will effect his career, especially his involvement with kids programmes remains to be seen, but it would be a complete bummer if this casts doubt on new Dwarf.

  • On the other hand they could kick out the character or replace him.

Don’t get me wrong: I DON’T want that to happen! His character isn’t that major or pivotal compared to the others but he’s always been extremely amusing and had some great one-liners. He is certainly popular with many viewers and viewing figures could go down; something we certainly don’t want if there’s a chance the series will be extended…. but it’s an option.

It probably won’t come to that though. This isn’t the first time there has been controversy with cast members after all.

  • >I just still can?t imagine how someone dressed in a dressing gown and his wife?s slippers can successfully overpower, punch and kick (in slippers remember!) not one but TWO fully dressed men with (I assume) work boots on.

This IS a good point, and I agree with Tanya, but, on top of that, let me add this: if you are attacked, one of your options is to NOT fight back. Obviously if you are in real danger you will defend yourself, but if you’re on the job and it’s just a scuffle, it might be best to just let the guy shove you over and then he takes all the blame.

Imagine the headline if the bin man knocked ol’ Danny out. Regardless of who provoked who, the man’s employer is bound to ask why he felt threatened by an unarmed man in slippers. The smartest course of action was probably to do nothing.

  • Course you could also lie and say he had a knife too…

I still think there’s something fishy about it.

  • > I still think there?s something fishy about it.

    Maybe it was a fishknife?

    I’ll let myself out. Trout.

  • Jeez. I can understand Danny being pissed at them, but that kind of violence just isn’t acceptable.

Stiil, as far as RD goes, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, is there?
Certainly Craig has had his share of incidents and it never seemed to do the show any harm.

  • > I can understand Danny being pissed at them

Frankly, if you can’t work out what not to put in your recycling bins, then you have no right to be pissed at anything.

  • I dunno some recycle bins rules are a bit hazy. We have a council service here in Nottingham which only takes certain types of plastics, and I can never remember which is which. To be fair the information is probably on display somewhere, and I’ve just never got round to finding out where.

  • I remember a note coming through the door some while back with a list of recyclables. These things often get mislaid though don’t they?

I mainly just stick paper items in mine.

Polystyrene sheets are a bit of an obvious no-no though.

  • >Polystyrene sheets are a bit of an obvious no-no though.

Actually, it’s no longer that simple. Some materials that used to be unrecyclable can now be recycled. For example, broccoli is delivered in a type of styrofoam that CAN be recycled (they even have the recycle symbol on the bottom of them)- apparently they melt it down and make… most likely other broccoli boxes.

  • You can imagine it if you want. I imagined it all the time whenever I watched people in Bond DVD extras talk about Cubby Broccoli.

  • I thought it was a samaurai sword…that’s just a wonderful image, danny in his wifes furry slippers…..could be a deleted scene from blade 2!.

  • I liked that Top-cat parody animation that cropped up.

I have no link unfortunately. (Actually I think it was removed from the site anyway.)

  • But the actor told The Voice he is innocent and was charged because of racism. He said he wants to go on the Jeremy Kyle Show to take a lie detector test to show he is innocent.

?I don?t know why everybody is dancing around the truth. Polish people don?t like black people,? John-Jules told The Voice.

So he says people were being racist to him, so he responds by… erm, being incredibly racist.

    What an absolute fucking dick.

  • Bloody hell. Quite apart from his own racism, surely suggesting that the court that has still yet to sentence you is actively racist is massively fuck-witted and irresponsible?

  • But the actor told The Voice he is innocent and was charged because of racism. He said he wants to go on the Jeremy Kyle Show to take a lie detector test to show he is innocent.

So he says people were being racist to him, so he responds by? erm, being incredibly racist.

    Heh, yeah.

He does make a good point here though:

?The whole thing is farcical and they keep changing their story where my account has been the same since the start of this ludicrous allegation.

I thought the contradictions was more due to the media getting their facts wrong than the binmen but it does look suspicious.

The rest of it though… playing the race card (although he might be right to a degree, Lord knows there are still problems.) Again he just makes himself look prejudiced with such sweeping statements.

Leave the chip outside the courtroom Danny please. Even if only for us who want to see new Red Dwarf. Oh and your family too. (Not necessarily in that order. :) )

  • It’s alright. They can base another series in prison.

Hey, it could be a Dwarf-in-prison reality show. What a treat!

  • The rest of it though? playing the race card (although he might be right to a degree, Lord knows there are still problems.) Again he just makes himself look prejudiced with such sweeping statements.

He might be right, inasmuch as racism is still a serious problem society faces. But it doesn’t endear you to the court to as good as tell them “I’ve already decided that you’re all just out to get me because [insert reason here]”. Makes you look like kind of an asshole.

Of course, if that was his aim all along, then good job, Danny! (b^_^)b

  • We must not forget that this is England and I am a black man so we all know who the courts are going to favour…that is what the system does to black families. They like to destroy us.

Yes, that’s what it’s like in modern Britain. It’s exactly the same as Apartheid-era South Africa or 50s America. What with it being one of the most multi-cultural and open societies in the world.

  • Of course, Ian. Don’t you know? Judges spend all their time twirling their moustaches evilly and pondering “How shall I ruin a black man’s life today? Bwahahaha!”

This isn’t to dismiss the problem of racism; but assuming the worst about other people, like Danny’s just done, can really only make things worse. (Especially when the people tarred by your assumption are about to try your criminal case.)

  • He might be right, inasmuch as racism is still a serious problem society faces. But it doesn?t endear you to the court to as good as tell them ?I?ve already decided that you?re all just out to get me because [insert reason here]?. Makes you look like kind of an asshole.

Exactly my point. And by accusing them of prejudism he makes himself appear prejudiced too.

That’s of course assuming that article isn’t embellishing. You know what these articles can be like. I suspect not in this case though.

    Quick, send for Terry Farrell.

Ha, ha! He loves himself so much he followed Holly’s example. (I haven’t seen the US promo with Terry Farrell, but I reckon she made a real slinky Cat-lady.)

  • > So who?s the Cat gonna be played by then?

Not sure, but I hear Danny is playing Roberto in the live-action Futurama movie.

  • Not sure, but I hear Danny is playing Roberto in the live-action Futurama movie.

    *applauds*

They’ve done Futurama meets the Simpsons (in comic form) and they did the Jetsons meets the Flintstones (in crap TV Movie form) so they really should do Futurama meets Red Dwarf.

Both have a grumpy old man in them…

Trouble is, I think it would turn out too much like Parallel Universe/Farnsworth Parabox.

  • Ok, can we lay off Danny John Jules now? We’re all entitled to our own opinion on this matter but i feel like some of the posters on here almost .wanted. John Jules to get some prison time on this FFS. Could we forget about this and look forward to the NEW RED DWARF EPISODES coming next year, after all, we are all Red Dwarf fans, remember?

  • Being a fan of Red Dwarf doesn’t mean we have to agree with everything the actors do.
(Whether he did or not, I honestly don’t know but we could go round in circles arguing that.)

I agree that it’s done with now. And I’m certainly looking forward to the new episodes.

  • > but i feel like some of the posters on here almost .wanted. John Jules to get some prison time on this FFS

No one on this thread has given me that impression. Any jail time could hurt the new episodes, and obviously no one on here wants it.

Everyone is just reacting to the facts as presented by the courts and what Danny has said, which seems fair enough to me.

  • No one on this thread has given me that impression. Any jail time could hurt the new episodes, and obviously no one on here wants it.

Although, as he is black, all the white people wanted him to go down, obviously.

  • I just happen think we’re being a tad harsh on him over this that’s all, i agree with what Robert Llewellyn had to say about this on you tube. I just think that before he’d even been sentenced some of us on here were being a tad too quick to condemn him. Someone on here even said that because of his ‘attitude’ toward the case they wouldn’t care if he got sent to prison, now im sorry, but that’s a little bit out of order.

  • > I just think that before he?d even been sentenced some of us on here were being a tad too quick to condemn him.

But at that point he had already been found guilty. Not so much of a leap to take the word of the courts as fact, is it?

    > Someone on here even said that because of his ?attitude? toward the case they wouldn?t care if he got sent to prison, now im sorry, but that?s a little bit out of order.

Firstly, I’m sure that wasn’t meant literally, but he HAS given an interview with The Voice in which he’s racist and attempts to drag the UK and its courts through the mud by strongly implying they’re inherently racist. I think it’s fair enough that some of us have formed opinions not dissimilar to “shut the fuck up, Danny”.

  • >Someone on here even said that because of his ?attitude? toward the case they wouldn?t care if he got sent to prison, now im sorry, but that?s a little bit out of order.

That was me, and I stand by my comment, because I think his comments to the media about the case have been a ‘little bit out of order’. I would think the same about anyone with that attitude, because it’s disgraceful behaviour, but even more so when Danny was obviously being interviewed as a black role model. His comments were inaccurate, racist speculation, and I expected better from him.

  • >Yes, Danny, you are exactly like the Blank Panthers.

You know, that misspelling seems strangely apt. Blank indeed.

I’ll admit I don’t know much about the Black Panthers, but weren’t their views essentially racist?* (Albeit I accept it was retaliation to the racism they suffered themselves but even so.) And there’s a white man right next to him lending his support. Heh. I wonder if Norm felt uncomfortable there?

    * Ok, after a bit of research not wishing to jump to conclusions myself:

The Black Panthers ultimately condemned black nationalism as “black racism”. They became more focused on socialism without racial exclusivity.

Ok,so maybe I was wrong there (or they changed their ways.) They were rather militant though.
Point remains, Danny comes across as a bit of a tit there though. And not in a good way.

  • Even putting that aside, the sheer *arrogance* of such a direct comparison of his situation with the civil rights issues of 60s/70s America is just gob-smacking.

  • Even if someone is convinced of their own innocence, this is rather bizarre behaviour and possibly ill advised if there is to be an appeal as reported.

If (as reported) he was convicted of verbal and physical abuse, the sentence could have been a lot worse compared to some I’ve heard of recently. There’s something that doesn’t quite meet the eye about all this.

There was the sword that never was, the carpet slippers and fluffy dressing gown, two Polish guys who claim not to know who we was etc etc. I’d hate to condemn the guy just from what’s been read, it all seems a tad ludicrous on the face of it.

I guess there’s a lot of frustration involved, but you have to question the attitudes and behaviour even so.

  • I think one of the eye witnesses got overexcited at the time and thought they saw a sword when they didn’t, as that type of thing happens all the time. As for what Danny was wearing at arrest; it sounds like he rushed out in a rage and grabbed whatever was handy, and it seems perfectly plausible that two Polish binmen wouldn’t know who he was; why would they? Danny’s not *that* famous.

The thing is, this is 21st century Britain, not 1940s Alabama. It’s difficult for someone to get arrested and convicted of something with no evidence at all, so some altercation must have taken place. Regardless of this, though, comparing your situation with the civil rights movement is incredible, and I can only assume Danny has surrounded himself with people who encourage that viewpoint. He’s made himself look like a right twat, and he could have handled this so differently.

  • On the other hand they could kick out the character or replace him.

    Nooo!
Danny is my favourite in the whole show. Replace him? With who. Unless someone can bring Screamin Jay Hawkins back from the dead I can’t imagine finding anyone else worthy of the title!

  • Hmm.

Well I guess he’s drawing inspiration which he’s entitled to do. Although it does seem a bizarre thing to do and one that will obviously draw a bit of attention. It all seems a bit odd really and has since those pictures first appeared. Do we have any idea how he plans to clear his name? Is he able to appeal or challenge the verdict?

  • Yo, my mad hacker skillz revealed THIS IMAGE on the TOS server, presumably meant as part of an update in weeks to come.

    You heard it here first.
