Fun Fun Fun in the Brum Brum Brum

The best bit of Birmingham

This is damned fine news – Dimension Jump XV has been announced! It’s taking place on the 9th-11th October 2009, in the beautiful city of Birmingham, which has been officially voted the best city in the whole of the UK, and also the world.

Quite aside from the fact that it’s the best city in the world – birthplace of legends such as Ozzy Osbourne, Jasper Carrott, half of Led Zeppelin, Frank Skinner, Duran Duran and Ian Symes – it’s a great choice for DJ. The hotel is right next to one of the biggest train stations in the country (OK, the thing is falling down, but you can get a train to Brum from virtually anywhere in the UK), it’s got a massive airport, and the motorway links are so good that they’re a national landmark. Plus, the hotel’s in the middle of town, which means that people can easily go out and get their own food, booze, fags etc. without having to pay hotel prices. Fuck Peterborough, and everything it stands for.

Plus, there’s already excellent news on the guest-front – as well as Hattie and the visual effects boyz, the entire main four cast are already confirmed. Yes, including Craig Charles. HOORAY, frankly. With six months still to go, this could end up being huge – which is completely fitting for such a momentous year in Dwarf‘s history.

Book it now and it’s only 40 quid for fan club members, which is ridiculously cheap. I really can’t recommend DJ enough – at it’s absolute worst, it’s a chance to get pissed with loads of Red Dwarf fans and spend a few hours in the company of your heroes. At its absolute best, it could be the best weekend of your life.

In other fan club news, TOS announces today that new fan club magazine Back To Reality is finally on its way to members. Hooray! Look out for articles from such illustrious writers as Jonathan Capps, Tanya Jones, Seb Patrick and Ian Symes, along with an absolute shitload from G&T regulars TheLeen and singingpotato1979.

  1. Too much “w00t” for one single news item, Ian!

it?s only 40 quid for fan club members, which is ridiculously cheap.

    YES.

chance to get pissed with loads of Red Dwarf fans

    Yes.

new fan club magazine Back To Reality is finally on its way to members.

    Yes yes yes.

  2. For those who want to hang out with Team G&T that weekend, by the way, stay tuned for news of our rigourous interview process.

  3. G&T Admin

    Ah, love the Holte End.

I love you even more than I did already.

  4. It’s true that there are few better places to shit on the Villa than in the Holte End, yeah.

  5. >A full guest roster is still to be announced, but already confirmed are Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn and Hattie Hayridge!

    >Along with those listed, previous guests have included Craig Charles,

    Hmm?

  6. Lol! TWO Craigs… and a strange man with large teeth :oP

I thought you might all like a little lookie at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM13d4DjAqg

It’s in the process of being updated this weekend but as we like you we thought we’d give you a sneak preview, also it feature the lovely face of Ian Symes.

  7. Oh and the option is there to view in high quality, do so, it’s really good.

    KTHXBYE

  8. My 12 year old is going to go absolutely nuts when he finds out.

[parental mode] Advice please. Is this a kid-friendly event? Do many under 16’s go?
I’m not normally into this kind of thing, but it’s his birthday around then aaaannd … I may give in. Just this once, mind. [/parental mode]

  9. Yes, it is indeed kid friendly, obviously be aware that during the Q&As the cast will be chatting as themselves and some of them *cough*Robert*cough* do swear a bit, but they are aware of their audience and try to adjust their language accordingly. I’ve only been involved with the fan club for the last year or so but yes the DJs which I attended before that did have under 16s there.

Last DJ there was a lovely lad called Sam there with his dad, I think he would only have been about 8 at the time. I understand you might be wary but it’s a really good weekend and the G&T lot do know how to behave themselves around the younger fans :o)

  10. Have now registered for DJ. Can’t really afford it, and don’t know how I’m going to pay for stuff, but, well. What the Smeg, eh?

  11. Thanks, Jo.
Yes, I think this may be his birthday treat.

  12. I should really go to one of these.

  13. I’m a Brummie so I expect I shall be attending. ‘Twould be rude not to considering I wouldn’t have to pay any travel expenses. Looking forward to it.

  14. >Yes, I think this may be his birthday treat.

    Will you be my mommy?

  15. Would Phil like a birthday treat, too?

  16. And it’s going to fill a football stadium? Wow.

The new magazine based on the pictures on TOS and the list of people involved,
I might have to actually join up to the fan club again now then. Well timed announcement too.

The picture of the four guys stacked head upon head reminds me of Madness Work Rest and Play EP which Is a reference only 80’s nutty music fans like me would spot, and it probably predates that back to the beatles of something anyway.
