Blu(e Midget)-ray, or something

The BtE Blu-ray cover, there

A trio of release updates from TOS this week. Not all that exciting on the face of it but what the fuck do you want, an announcement that Doug Naylor is going to come over to your house and show you his plans for the next series?

To pass the time until that momentous day, when we all gather in the streets to celebrate the ninth coming, you can do a lot worse than waste your time with these things:

That’s yer lot, then. Now, get back to your filthy corner of the Forum and if you’re lucky we might shit out another DwarfCast at some point over the next few days. However, if you’re REALLY lucky, we might not.

For me it’s double-dipping only because I had no idea it was coming out on Blu-ray and already got the regular version; if it’s been widely publicised or you guys mentioned it, I obviously haven’t been paying close enough attention! Or are we just supposed to know that everything comes out on Blu-ray nowadays? I’m so out of the loop…

Anyway, thank goodness for Play.com and their fantastic prices, which will hopefully allow me to feel less extravagent about buying it again on Blu-ray later on down the road. :)

Love the shading on that Blu-Ray mock-up. Also, what font did you use?

>For me it’s double-dipping only because I had no idea it was coming out on Blu-ray and already got the regular version

It was filmed using Red One, so the prospect of a high-def release was a bit of a no-brainer.

Excellent picture.

That is all.

It’s called CappsHand and was specially created for us for use in future promotions.

Here’s the thing, I MAY have held off on buying the DVD if I thought the Blu-ray was coming in August. This is something I’m guessing GNP and 2entertain would not have wanted to happen hence them not confirming the Blu-ray till later. Of course, they may have had to wait for ratings and DVD sales to come through before putting the Blu-ray release in motion at all but…aw hell who cares, I’m gonna fucking buy it anyway. And here, while you’re at it, you can have the shirt off my back too, after all it has the words TWAT IT on it.

How much will the Blu-Ray be? 50 quid?

I’m probably alone here, but I think Blu-Ray is overrated. That is, the degree of improvement in quality isn’t sufficient to warrant paying the extra cash.
Or maybe I’m just tight.

It has my vote.

I’d say that depends on your set up. You can tell the difference on a full HD telly (1080p), not so much on a rubbish ‘HD Ready’ number.

Certainly, although we’ve found that you quickly get used to full HD, which is slightly disappointing after spending so long being awed by HD displays in Tesco…

>I’m probably alone here, but I think Blu-Ray is overrated.

Yeah, it’s not a HUGE leap forward, IMO (like VHS to DVD).

I put together my first HTPC not long back and found there wasn’t THAT much difference between my Phillips upscaler and Blu-Rays/HD-DVDs. It’s noticeable, but if you have a good upscaler to begin with…

That coupled with some occassionally awkward ‘in-movie menus’ suggests to me, at least, that regular DVDs are still far from a dead format.

I vaguely recall there being some talk regarding a home version of HD VHS, a while back. Think it was called, D-VHS. I miss the convenience of my old tapes - especially the more intuitive fast-forwarding/rewinding.

Saying that, I’ll still be getting the BtE BR(!)

Let’s put it this way:

I bought RD Series One on DVD before I’d got a DVD Player, having to watch it on my brother’s PS2.

I won’t be buying this and playing it on his PS3 - I’ll wait till Blu-ray releases are so essential, I *need* a Blu-ray player (which won’t be any time soon, especially as we don’t have a HD TV.).

Can we have a downloadable version of your cover if for any reason it’s not the official one?

Was it triangular?

I think our TV is only 720p, but Blu-Ray looks beautiful on stills. (From the PS3)

Not much different on video, although I do quite like the in-movie menus.

I don’t know if this has already been mentioned but the Blu-Ray cover is now on Amazon website: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Dwarf-Back-Earth-Blu-ray/dp/B002I075R6/ref=s...

It’s pretty much the same as the DVD version, but with the added Blu-Ray logos, etc.

It’s mentioned in today’s TOS update. Wouldn’t say it warrants a new update from us, so:

Hey, I was close! :-)) Figured they’d have to rejig the original artwork (something I didn’t do with the above).

When they run out of stock I’d imagine. That’s the traditional time to reprint something.

I’d supposed as much. I hope the flippant reply is merely a case of you being absent of a clue on the matter of a timeline for such an event.
