Fucking.
Called this.

This appeared on the Red Dwarf Wiki page but was roundly dismissed as idle rumour.
Lovely idea, anyway!

Yeah, it did appear on the wiki page, and was eventually removed. (It was not cited.) But now, coming from Craig himself, it’s more reliable. Perhaps it was Craig editing the wiki?
The real question is…when will it be revealed that I was right about Ricky Gervais playing Kryten?

Guess the big question is now how to feel when you prove to be much better at it then they are. :/

This is gonna be embarrassing to watch unless it’s a bit more than them just trying to remember the ‘classic’ scenes. We’re talking 20 years ago with some moments. You wouldn’t expect anyone to re-enact them to a point where it was actually good to watch. They’re gonna have to work their arses off to make this worth it!
I wonder if the idea’s been kicking around for ages or whether Doug just sprang it on them? Looks like they’ll be playing other characters too.

>You wouldn’t expect anyone to re-enact them to a point where it was actually good to watch.
See, I think the best stuff would come from the ad-libs and the flubs. Look at the Smeg Ups…these guys are good at taking an embarrassing moment and turning it into a good comic moment.
I wouldn’t WANT them to get everything right. Let’s say that Chris and Craig sit down and give us a miraculous rendition of the virginity conversation. Big deal. We already HAVE a perfect rendition, and it’s in the middle of a perfect episode. We don’t need another one, decades later.
What we need is the chance for four (or five, or however many) great actors to get together and have silly fun, using familiar scenes as a jumping off point.
For further evidence of their ability to work together like that, check out Can’t Smeg Won’t Smeg. The best stuff is unscripted. However nervous people might be about the new proper episodes, this seems to me like an absolutely perfect bonus. Even if the new episodes SUCK (which I truly doubt they will anyway) we’ll all just be happy to see the cast together again, having fun.
I personally can’t wait.

Please form an orderly queue behind the gun sights. ;)

But isn’t them messing it up part of the fun of this kind of programme? Or at least seeing how well/not well they do? EDIT- Oh ok, Phil said that already.. much more eloquently….
I wonder if these are the multiple characters he was speaking of. (I.e. reenacting scenes involving other persona’s he has played.) That would be a minority though… so I think it might still be a reference to the two proper episodes. (Mixed feelings there.)

>To be fair it is better than a clip show.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they incorporated both what with ‘clip show with a difference’. I.e. act out the scene… then see how accurate they were to the actual performance.
Should be interesting, but it could get old quick. Still, just a half an hour… and they may not stick to the same format each round.
Anyway, it’ll fun finding out… (Mind you one guy I heard say that ended up giving birth to twin boys. Great big heads they had too. ;) )
That came across a bit negative, but I’m actually looking forward to these episodes.

Still puzzled re how this ties in with Craig’s comment about playing lots of different roles.
Of course, it could be the 2 eps he was referring to.

Typical. I do the hard work (reading a magazine and copying it to here)…
(and yes, I know I’ve got a credit)

Easy. There’s only 4 of them so sometimes they’re gonna have to be playing different characters.

Yeah Craig LOVES the internet! :oP

Yes, the most popular pastimes have always been ones that males can enjoy alone.

I wonder how many times I heard the line “and, of course, the all time number one” before I had the slightest idea what it meant?

How did we miss this? (Well, how did I miss this? Someone else may have posted this somewhere else already, whatever…)
Got my new SFX - the February issue - and in the Roundup section is this little titbit:
‘Craig Charles has divulged more about Dave’s Red Dwarf revival. “We are going to do Red Dwarf: Unplugged, which is just the four of us - and some chairs - trying to improvise, or rather trying to remember, classic scenes,” he said at the recent Collectormania Glasgow.’
So have I missed this? Has everyone been chatting about this? Or have I stumbled across something?
