My DVD recorder has an SHQ recording mode that only fits 45mins of video to a single layer disc, I’ve often wondered why that hasn’t been utilised now for TV shows as I’m sure it would drastically reduce artefacts when up-scaling.
They play back fine on any other DVD player in the house.

Obviously there would be an increase in price but for a bit of extra quality when up-scaled onto a 40″+ TV or projector I’d be up for it.

No, I genuinely think it’s amazing that you can do this. I had a problem with generating some graphics and I just put it up on Twitter and within minutes I got my answer which was astounding. random people from all over the world sharing their knowledge and experience with strangers, it’s fucking awsome. It’s so easy to be rather blasé about when someone famous replies to you on twitter, but for me it never gets old.

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o’clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn’t go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head ’round the door, and mentions there’s a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So – we go. And – it’s closed. So there’s me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they’ve got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son… that’s a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
