I’ve heard this quote several times over the years, mostly on this website, but where exactly did it originate and what was the exact wording? I’m presuming that is from a BBC statement as a response to a query about a possible Series IX.

P.S. Happy Birthday Red Dwarf. Well done, everyone. Thanking you.

Bit of a “citation needed”, really.

Think Doug said this was the wording the BBC used when he approached them about a ninth series. It was never attributed to anyone specific, or confirmed, or seen written on anything official.

    RED DWARF NEEDS YOU

TOS link has moved though. Naylor read it out at a DJ didn’t he?

I think this was the first mention if it, at least on here:

Dave is no longer interested in the audience Red Dwarf used to attract, but is incredibly interested in the audience Red Dwarf currently attracts.

Well, it’s a nice way of mobilising fans to take action. Make the BBC’s reticence about them, specifically.
