The One Where Everyone’s Kryten

Apologies for being far too late to provide the full write-up on this, but the following tweet rather took us by surprise when it was posted in what was effectively the middle of the night:

Yes, the first official cast photo from Series XII is not your conventional everyone-in-front-of-a-spacescape shot, but rather a teaser from a particularly unusual episode. Remember that while us lot have known about this storyline for ages, the general public are learning about it for the first time, and as their first exposure to the series.

Oh, it’s continuing. I knew it would.

The gradual ramp up to Red Dwarf XII‘s broadcast continues, with the official Twitter account today teasing us ever closer to the inevitable climax with a Tweet containing a lovely picture of what I believe is a new look bunk room console. Also included is this beautiful close up of the ship schematic (click for an embiggened version)…

I’m not sure what an “Artificial Grave” is but I take a strange comfort in the fact that it is only at 19%.

While it’s no guarantee, I think this tweet further points to the likelihood of a a proper ramping up of details about the new series, maybe even as soon as this very Friday. Until then, and as first brought to our attention by Si Bromley, the latest issue of SFX features a four page piece on the Red Dwarf XII sets so while we’ve not got our hands on a copy of this yet, this should nicely pass the time until we start getting more news. Maybe then I might actually start believing we’re actually getting a new series and finally snap out of this post-XI haze…

Oh, it’s started. I knew it would.

Hi. Remember us? We’re the people that inundate you with news, reviews and podcasts every time there’s new episodes of Red Dwarf, and then we tire ourselves out and have a little sleep in between series. We’ve been patiently waiting for the Series XII publicity juggernaut to trundle into view and snap us out of it, and that glorious day has finally arrived. Look, there’s a new logo and everything!

Got MILF?

Craig Charles, the new host of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show, has been doing some interviews to promote said show, and so naturally, some journalists have taken the opportunity to talk about Red Dwarf instead. One such interview is with Digital Spy, and as it’s them we can’t be 100% sure that Craig actually said any of these things, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, just this once. The big news concerns a potential Series XIII…

“I’m sure we’ll be doing more, having done these two series,” the Lister actor told Digital Spy. “Because it’s right back to where we should be, it’s won comedy awards, so a lot of people appreciated what we did, and we’re really grateful for that.

Red Dwarf’s worst kept secret emerges further from the bag

It was always going to be difficult to keep secrets quiet when there’s a year-and-a-half gap between an audience recording and an episode being broadcast. The fans who attended those Series XII recordings have done their part admirably, with very little – if any – information leaked on forums or social media. The same can’t be said for those involved in the show, however, as we’ve previously detailed. And today, something that’s been mentioned a handful of times prior to now if you know where to look on Twitter and Facebook has finally reached a mainstream comedy website, and we feel that there’s very little point in us continuing to ignore it.

Yes, Chortle are reporting – and this is your last chance to stop reading if you don’t want to see something that you probably already know – that…

The G&T Review of the Year 2016

We hope by now that you’ve hung up your stockings on the wall, your family has arrived, and that you’ve ascertained whether or not you have the room to spare inside. But before your granny proves herself to be a musical hypocrite, take a moment to look back on the past twelve months. It’s been a strange one by all accounts. Brexit. Trump. A cull of beloved celebrities. The rise of the far right. Terror. Fear. Division. Prejudice. Aston Villa being relegated. Frankly, I’m not convinced we’ll all survive the last seven days.

Which is why we’ve chosen Christmas Day as the perfect time to focus on the positive, and look back on what has been a much better year in the world of Red Dwarf than it has been for anyone in the actual world. Six brand new episodes recorded. Another six brand new episodes aired. A mobile game. New merchandise. Live DwarfCasts. The dramatic increase in usage of the word “cloche”. It’s definitely been a busy one, so settle down for a comprehensive look back on everything that happened and how we covered it.

Series XII episode titles revealed in steelbook clusterfuck

The UK release of the Series XI Bluray/DVD is a mere two days away. As is often the case with internet pre-orders, some lucky fans have already received their copies through the post. Imagine their delight as they rip open the packaging to take a look at their shiny Bluray steelbooks in the flesh for the first time. They turn it round to pore over the details contained on the rear. There’s a photo of the main cast, a list of exciting extras, the now-familiar series synopsis, and of course the list of… wait, that doesn’t say Twentica. And that doesn’t say Samsara. What the shitting crikey is happening here?

Yes folks, I can’t quite believe I’m saying this, but the slipcase for the Series XI Bluray steelbook contains the wrong episode titles. And I’m struggling even more to believe that I’m saying this bit, but not only that, they’ve actually printed the episode titles for Series XII instead. Needless to say, if you don’t want any further information, you probably ought to stop reading now.

Tucker’s Luck #545621265

If thinking about the model work on the new series of Red Dwarf make your anus involuntarily clench, then you’re probably a) reading the correct site and b) all too aware of the myriad fuckeries of the Series X model production and are thus rightly nervous about what comes next. While that’s a very negative way to start this piece, we do actually now have some nice positive news to ponder on that front.

As post production probably persists we’re starting to get an idea about what the new look model set-up will be. Richard Naylor, presumably as part of some sort of mental breakdown, actually gave Gazpacho Soup the time of day with the following deets…

Nice Going On The Idiotic Gaffe
Front, Sirs

The other day, I snapped.

In our forums, there is a spoiler, which came about from a careless photo posted by a crew member. It’s not a huge spoiler, maybe. I doubt many people will be upset reading it. But it’s the latest in a long line of spoilers about the show posted online since the recordings started late last year.

There’s an interesting thing about these spoilers, mind. Nearly every single one them have come from the cast, crew, and – in one notable case – an executive at UKTV. The large audiences full of excitable fans who came to watch the shows have remained generally shtum.

BBC Cow

Big changes are afoot at Baby Cow, the production company that currently co-produces Red Dwarf alongside GNP. Co-founder Henry Normal is stepping down after sixteen years, Steve Coogan is stepping up to fill the gap, and most intriguingly, BBC Worldwide has gained a controlling stake in the business. It’s an amusing twist of fate that Auntie Beeb is once more involved in the production of our favourite show, but the big question remains: how is all this going to affect Red Dwarf?
