Let’s Talk About Timewave (on Dave)

The following article is intended for those watching at Dave pace. UKTV Play viewers should keep the comments spoiler-free until broadcast. More info.

Hello there, Dave viewers. Sod it, let’s carry on with these threads, because you’re going to have a lot to say when you’ve seen this particular episode. It’s been quite a week, and you’ll have much to catch up on, such as the UKTV Play-paced discussion thread, last Friday’s Live Instant Reaction DwarfCast, and our full in-depth written review. But not until you’ve watched the episode of course; 9pm is the TimeWaveDaveTime.

You’ll have about a forty minute window of being up-to-date after the show, as Mechocracy will be released on UKTV Play at around 10:20pm. The discussion thread for that will be along at the end of TimeWaveDaveTime.

Red Dwarf XII: Timewave Review

“‘Allo, ‘allo, ‘allo, what’s all this then?”
“Just my Timewave review, officer.”
“I see…a comedian, are we?”
“That’s very kind of you, officer.”
“Smart arse. Lock her up.”

I brought it on myself, I suppose. I did volunteer to take this episode on, even with the sight of Johnny Vegas in a pink helmet. That’s the thing, though; I have enough of a personal investment to avoid assumptions with Red Dwarf, and it’s this goodwill that the show puts to the test each week. Although I get the idea some don’t really believe me, it’s a genuine gut-punch when, as in this case, I finish an episode feeling disappointed and confused.

DwarfCast 92 – Live Timewave Instant Reaction

Who’d have thought it: the episode about a place where criticism is illegal is the one that’s attracted more criticism than any other this series. Join John Hoare, Tanya Jones, Danny Stephenson, Ian Symes and the Fan Club’s Jo Sharples for a spot of criticising, castigating, chiding, blaming, harping, panning and scoffing at Timewave. It’s not pretty at times, but I’d like to think we at least covered the reasons why we reacted so badly to the episode, and we were aided by two fantastic guests – Shelley Smith and Dan Pendleton – to give their perspectives on some of the trickier topics.

The brilliant subjects that we really enjoyed discussing to death included the problematic portrayal of the Enconium’s crew, Cat’s problematic attitude to women, unresolved plots, repetitive jokes and speedy resolutions. Plus, for the second week in a row we discuss the word “clitoris” and Operation Yewtree, although not at the same time. On the plus side, there are positive comments at a rate of roughly one every twelve minutes, a brief preview of the next episode, and… well, the intro music’s pretty catchy this week.

Let’s Talk About Timewave (on UKTV Play)

The following article is intended for those watching at UKTV Play pace. Dave viewers be warned that the content and comments could contain spoilers. More info.

Following the slightly manic and hugely irritating period last Thursday between Cured finishing on telly and TOWEK appearing online, UKTV have answered our prayers and clarified the timings for this week, which we really appreciate. So, all being well, Timewave will be live on UKTV Play by around 10:20pm, although the smallprint in that tweet does stipulate that timings may vary. Either way, the massive bit of text below will tell you whether or not you can watch Timewave yet:

YES. YES, YOU CAN!

As usual, this is the place to leave all of your many thoughts on the episode, before joining us to talk it all through in our LIVE Instant Reaction DwarfCast this Friday at 9pm. The whole gang will be here once more, with a couple of guests dropping by for good measure. The link will appear on here, on our Twitter feed and our Spreaker page – which is also the best way to chat along live – at 8:40pm.

Your weekly Wednesday web preview

It’s that time again – with Timewave due to premiere on UKTV Play at some point tomorrow (we assume after The One Where Everyone’s Kryten airs on Dave), a brief clip has appeared on Youtube, and it’s even briefer than usual, at around half a minute long:

Our fond hope is that after last week’s confusion and frustration, UKTV will be clarifying exactly when we should expect to see the episode appear online, preferably with plenty of notice. Will that happen? We’ll see.
