VII DVD cover. IT'S A GNP MOCK, before the discussions start. After a bit of a false start: There you go.

The most interesting bit of news there is the given release date: 14th November; a week later than the Amazon entry. I suspect we can probably take this as genuine, as RDSUK is affiliated to TOS, but we’ll see.

They also seem rather desperate to point out that the priced of DVD, currently £21.99, will drop “as the number of orders increase”. As to whether to order from here or Play (where, oddly, it isn’t listed yet) – they have both delivered and failed to deliver on Saturday in the past, so it’s a toss-up as to which is best. Why not order from both, and use the duplicate as a prezzie?

  • Your autographs would probably be worth more than Craig Charles’s if he signed it…

  • “Why not order from both, and use the duplicate as a prezzie?”

Or order both from RDSUK to make the price go down?

  • They’ve silvered up the RD logo as if that’s the official final cover now. Why didn’t they wait I wonder.

  • >Why not order from both, and use the duplicate as a prezzie?

Like Ian did for my birthday with the last one….

  • “The final version will be VII’s GELF ship.”

And it’s the version that will never be seen on Amazon or anywhere like it because GNP have sent out this silly mock up as if it’s final. Silvering up the RD logo won’t help!

Perhaps it’s GNP’s clever way of commenting on the way VII was the first series called that on screen but not in the radio times. Or something.

  • I don’t even remember the purple GELF ship! I’ll go to the TOS site now to see if there are any images of it online.

  • > And it’s the version that will never be seen on Amazon or anywhere like it because GNP have sent out this silly mock up as if it’s final.

Hey, we haven’t sent that art out to anyone except 2 entertain as a guide for their designers as to what we want.

BUT – people nick it from rd.co.uk. And 2 ent send it out to stores as a placeholder image because stores want to take pre-orders (actually, tell a lie, I did send a copy to the RD Shop so they could do the same). Nobody is told that it’s final art – they all know it’s a mock-up, and that full art will show up around 3-4 months before release

Stores are offered the final art as soon as it becomes available. But it’s their laziness, not our crapness, that sees development art remain on shop sites for years afterwards.

  • I never meant to allude to it being your crapness that kept old artwork on shop sites once a product has been released (love the play.com version of the series one disc). But I seem to remember mock-up art being a bit different in the past – I think series V and VI maybe only had the backgrounds provided in advance, and fans of course added their text and images to see whether their hoaxes would fool anyone – things like that. And other mock-ups were more obviously mock-ups as well somehow – indeed this one was, until it suddenly appeared with silvery writing which I always thought was a last-moment thing that happened. Anyway, how are the *real* backgrounds coming along?

  • > love the play.com version of the series one disc

Hideous, isn’t it. I was still getting to grips with photoshop at that point, and never expected that version to be seen outside the production.

I think that’s why I silvered up the VII and VIII art this time – because I knew it was going to linger despite our best efforts and I couldn’t stand seeing it everywhere looking utterly shit!

    > Anyway, how are the *real* backgrounds coming along?

Series VII is utterly, utterly beautiful – really captures the design of the ship. But then, I think we can all agree that Chris has done great work with these all the way through.

We’ve not started on VIII yet, but it’s the one I’m looking forward to most. (Ever since we teased out the colour choices on rd.co.uk by using them in the image gallery.)

  • Well the fact that nobody has yet replied to that boast means that you do actually lose after all.

    SORRY ABOUT THATS.
