Tat News News Posted by John Hoare on 31st August 2005, 20:18 Remember the news about the Dwarf film cells? Well, Play now have their exclusive set listed (Argos will have another exclusive, and various others will be available elsewhere) – and the stated release date is, erm, today. Or: “Out now. Waiting for delivery of stock.” Hmmm. I’ll believe it when they’ve got some. And when there’s a proper photo. Oh. But I’m looking forward to these anyway, even if no-one else is – I have a love for production photos that I don’t think many people share. Meanwhile, one thing I didn’t mention in my Newsround is that this TOS article has been updated with the latest news on the mobile stuff: “This release has now been confirmed for November, with cover art to follow shortly. Moving away from the episodes suggested above, Doug Naylor has opted for shows that rely less on the visuals and more on dialogue-based comedy. The chosen shows are now Marooned, Quarantine and Cassandra.” All of which seems eminently sensible. Everything is, apart from the actual idea of viewing eps on your tiny phone screen using a chip you actually have to buy, when you’ve already bought the eps once to view on your nice big telly screen. Just listen to Son of Cliché instead. Oh, and SciFiCollector are selling the VII DVD with Chris Barrie’s signature for £22.95. I was going to do some joke about him tossing off into the case, but is it really worth it? Answers below, please. UPDATE (2/9/05 @ 21:21): Play now now gives the release date of their film cells as being Saturday 10th September. THE LYING CUNTS. We’ll have a review as soon as we have them.
You want some real tat, check out the BBC Shop’s version of the Red Dwarf VII cover. Points given for every mistake spotted…
Oh, they’ve finally listed it, have they? Bloody hell. Off the top of my head: – “The Entire Seven Series” rather than “The Entire and Extended Series” – “2 disc set” rather than “3 disc set” – No GNP logo – And not that it’s exactly a mistake, seeing as the proper background hasn’t been released yet, but… what the fuck is that? It looks like the bottom of a trainer!
Andrew, what’s the “Technically Speaking” featurette mentioned in the BBC Shop entry? Is it the How Do They Do That? piece? It’s the only thing I can’t see listed there.
…I’ve just realised quite how bad “The Entire Seven Series” sounds. I should pre-order it now from the BBC Shop, and then when it doesn’t contain exactly what was advertised, demand my money back along with compensation.
“And not that it’s exactly a mistake, seeing as the proper background hasn’t been released yet, but… what the fuck is that? It looks like the bottom of a trainer!” Well, that is a version of the art. But check the side of the GELF ship – that’s the kinda shape Wraggy and the guys built. It’s accurate! > Andrew, what’s the “Technically Speaking” featurette mentioned in the BBC Shop entry? It’s the working definition of ‘useless’. As in ‘those useless buggers have oput out information based on a five-month old document. The music featurette – Burning Rubber – was going under my old working title of ‘Technically Speaking’ for a while, back before it changed from being about ALL technology, gizmos, gadgets and vehicles and become just about ships and stuff. One more mistake, too – there will actually be ‘over 4 hours’ of bonus material. Official. (Though ten minutes of that is some fan film thing that probably shouldn’t see the light of day…) :-)
I’m looking forward to the ‘Film Cells’ as well. Oddly I mentioned Plays listing on Saturday 27th on the webboard and got not one reply. still those likely to be interested were away somewhere and everyone else seemed more interested in a Sims game, whatever that is!
> (Though ten minutes of that is some fan film thing that probably shouldn’t see the light of day You’re only saying that because you’ll have people shouting “ooooh!” at you at next year’s DJ.
Despite being stuffed with errors, can that DVD cover art be considered an update of earlier versions? As well as adding the final image of the Gelf ship I was wondering whether the decision has been made to keep the roman numerals in the original size.
Also, is that going to be the picture of Kochanski? I’d have imagined that one of her in red, leaning on something in front of her, was more iconic.
> Also, is that going to be the picture of Kochanski? Another mistake on that version – we’re going with the red-clad, leaning-on-bazookoid shot. Should have the finished version for next Friday – complete with numerals. > You’re only saying that because you’ll have people shouting “ooooh!” at you at next year’s DJ. Oh yeah, like I don’t get that already…
“Should have the finished version for next Friday – complete with numerals.” Must. Know. What You’ve Done To The Numerals. Now. “> You’re only saying that because you’ll have people shouting “ooooh!” at you at next year’s DJ. Oh yeah, like I don’t get that already…” How can you *already* be getting people shouting “ooooh!” at you at next year’s DJ?
Also – forgive me for asking, but precisely *how much* of the Red Dwarf logo will series VIII get on its spine?
>> You’re only saying that because you’ll have people shouting “ooooh!” at you at next year’s DJ. >Oh yeah, like I don’t get that already… Dirty…
>precisely *how much* of the Red Dwarf logo will series VIII get on its spine? Would ‘enough to complete it’ be too obvious an answer? > Dirty… Filthy…
>Would ‘enough to complete it’ be too obvious an answer? Well what about series IX & X? I’d be devastated if the spines didn’t match up.
“Play now now gives the release date of their film cells as being Saturday 10th September” The stupid sons of cuntflaps.
>Well what about series IX & X? I’d be devastated if the spines didn’t match up. Hooray! Any excuse to bring up a future Series
