Telekin-what-anesis? News Posted by Mr Flibble on 8th November 2005, 17:04 Basically, I’ve got the script, they haven’t. It’s just odd how things sound so different to different people…Proper: ANDREW: …before I was issued with this company beard. Subtitled: ANDREW: …before I was issued with this complete beard. Proper: DOUG: Yeah, no, it is a bad line. Subtitled: DOUG: Yeah, it is a bad line. Proper: HELEN: …to the “Big Boys in Boots” subscription department for $15. Subtitled: HELEN: …to the poisin food subscription department for $15. Proper: HELEN: …the funding doesn’t ever have existed here anymore. Subtitled: HELEN: …the funding haven’t ever have existed here anymore. Proper: DOUG: Oh, shut up Andrew. Subtitled: DOUG: Shut up, Patrick. Proper: NARRATOR: A strange incident, Subtitled: NARRATOR: A strange instant. Proper: TRANSLATOR: He says he likes it, but he has some issues with the casting. Spoken: TRANSLATOR: He say he like it, but he has some issues wit de casting. Subtitled: TRANSLATOR: He says he like it, but he has some issues with the casting. Proper: ANDREW: S-speak, Doug. Subtitled: ANDREW: Speak, Doug. Yes, OK. I’m pedantic…
Proper: DOUG: Oh, shut up Andrew. Subtitled: DOUG: Shut up, Patrick. This *has* to be Andrew having a laugh.
There are a couple of mistakes in it. What would be really useful is if someone could go through the subtitles and see where they made mistakes, and what they should have said.
Erm, yes. My point being that I’d forgotten about the subtitles until this post, but had been weirdly excited about seeing something I’d co-written being subtitled by someone else, so wanted to go and watch it. Incidentally, I do like “Righto, Mary” in the “RD : The Other Movie” clip ;-)
>Proper: ANDREW: S-speak, Doug. > Subtitled: ANDREW: Speak, Doug. What about the scene in series 6? Does anyone know if Rimmer is subtitled as saying “speak” or “s-speak?” The fact that you’re upset they didn’t properly subtitle a stutter makes you remarkably anal and reminds me of why we get along so well.
The Original Episode has “Speak, Kryten” I’m not upset about it at all, just fancied being pedantic :) It amazes me there are so many errors, but it’s more likely to be down to my crappy sound than their crappy stenographers. But I suspect that their stutter wasn’t scripted, and ours was :)
