This is Night Hawk News Posted by John Hoare on 1st March 2006, 22:46 Gah, this is driving me mad! I’ve been watching loads of the excellent ‘Allo ‘Allo recently. When René and the gang are communicating with London via radio, a certain sound effect is used to indicate interference. That sound effect is also used somewhere in Dwarf… but I can’t think for the life of me where. Any ideas?
I was just pissing by and thought I’d poop in. ‘Allo ‘Allo is indeed bloody good. I seem to have a vague memory of Frank Skinner showing a clip of it to Gene Wilder when he was on his show when it was still on the BBC, and saying it was a good example of typically British humour, and Gene Wilder said something like “What’d you say it’s called? ‘Hello, Hello’?” Did that happen?
I was actually thinking of picking up Allo Allo…the first two series are region 1 now. But I bought Black Books today instead. Haven’t watched it, but I’m excited to. I take it Allo Allo is worth picking up, however? How many series were there?
I’ll try and get a sound sample this week. I’ve never actually ripped stuff from DVD before – not properly, anyway. As for ‘Allo ‘Allo – *definitely* worth getting. It had a long run of 9 series, totalling 85 episodes. Unusually, Series 5 had an American-style 26 episodes, due to a transatlantic deal with the BBC. http://www.phill.co.uk/comedy/allo/list.html It’s an incredible series. Very, very funny (but then, I like lots of extremely rude jokes aimed at a primetime audience) – but also unusual in that it is a serial sitcom – it has one continuous story running throughout the episodes, with the next episode often picking up at the exact moment where the last one left off. This gives the show a very unusual feel – but such a wonderful one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZCOCUTY5k8 From 6:50 onwards – that radio interference noise. It’s *definitely* used in Red Dwarf somewhere – but where?
The guy playing the German right at the start of that clip – was he one of the Kaleds in Genesis of the Daleks? Also, why are the dates all to cock on this entry? Sorry, more questions than answers, there. I’ll have a listen now myself.
The guy playing the German right at the start of that clip – was he one of the Kaleds in Genesis of the Daleks? Yep! Guy Siner. Although I didn’t know he was in Genesis until you just mentioned it… Also, why are the dates all to cock on this entry? Well, it is an old article I’ve dredged up…
I have another one for you and it’s a biggy. It may take a few listens, but in Return of the Jedi when Luke takes the X-Wing down for the first time to see Yoda. Just before he crashes into the swamp the afterburn on the engine is identical to Starbug when it is seen moving away. I’m sure someone must have heard this beofre?
Is it used in Terrorform when the crashed Kryten is cutting his hand off? Ooops, sorry I’m late. Good idea, but no – I’ve just checked. Anyone got any other ideas? And: this clip is one of my favourite scenes in ‘Allo ‘Allo! They way it builds up to the end of the scene is perfect. And it’s the bloody pilot!
So… any more suggestions? I’m currently working my way through the first four series of ‘Allo ‘Allo (*God*, it’s such a fucking great series), and every time they communicate with England, it drives me up the wall…
I haven’t got any suggestions yet, but i look into it. By the way a good program i used in the past for ripping ac3 files and converting them into mp3 and/or wav is “ACE DVD Audio Extractor”. Hope this comes as some small amusement.
A clip from the upcoming The Peter Serafinowicz Show. And what’s the noise when the water is thrown all over Michael-6? It’s the same noise that comes out of Kryten at the end of the deleted Marooned strip poker scene!
Is it only on Remasterd Red Dwarf, and thats why no ones found it in over a decade? The rimmer hologram breakdown?
