Our usual roundup, then. Sorry. Believe me when I say large plans are afoot for this place, but I’m keeping my mouth shut for now…

THEY’RE ILLEGAL MATEY: No doubt most of you have heard the news by now, but just in case: original Mirror story, BBC story confirming Corrie/6 Music suspension. I’m frankly fucking appalled at The Mirror – “early 1990s BBC2 sci-fi comedy”? It started in 1988! Journalism at its finest.

More seriously, we’re not going to comment further until there’s been a statement from Craig.

BEST EVER SPITTING IMAGE: Starting this Sunday! 10:30pm! ITV1! And Rob and Doug are interviewed! This is excellent news, and bodes well for the series as a whole – seeing as the excellent Tooth & Claw reveals that the Comedy Police basically saved the show in its early days, there’s been a laughable lack of acknowledgement of this.

This does have the potential to be a great series – it looks as though some real effort has gone into the show. The best thing we can hope for now is a full repeat of Spitting Image, from the beginning, on ITV4 – the show more than deserves it.

FAT: Now put back from November 2nd to December 28th. Just missing the Christmas market. Well done! Bear in mind this was originally supposed to be released on May 1st 2005, but projects do get put back. Oooh, lovely old design that I’ve been meaning to fix for fucking ages…

That, as they say, is your lot. More soon/next month/next year*

  • The Mirror article actually reads like a piece of fiction, a short story or something! Lines like ‘Slowly, he peels off his jacket to reveal his open necked sweat-soaked white shirt is clinging to his skin.’ I mean FFS…

The bit that made me laugh was ‘But his appearance is already transformed. He is almost unrecognisable as the popular soap star. His face is puffy and his eyes are bulging.’ Obviously this person has never seen Craig before…

And I never thought I’d see the Dwarf crew staring up at me from page 6 of the Mirror! Surreal.

  • > Does anyone think this might affect the plans for the movie??

    No. It was already over.

  • Well Doug might stand by Craig seeing as they have known each other for so long, if he sorts himself out and gets clean.

  • I hate the fact that the tabloids think they own people and that it’s their right to set out to shame all the celebrities they possibly can. Not that I condone what Craig is/may/may not/whatever doing but just the sheer cockiness of ‘we’re making this evidence available to the police’ it’s mental. They act like they’re providing some kind of service, when all they’re interested in is the ‘Corrie Star Shamed’ headline that will sell copies. I loved it when The Mirror got screwed over with those fake torture pics a couple of years ago.

Regarding Spitting Image, it should be a good show. Rob and Doug, wouldn’t you just drop dead if their interview was actually together. I’d probably start weeping uncontrollably. Not that it’s gonna happen though.

  • “The 41-year-old actor says he has been “devastated and humbled” by The Mirror’s revelation he smoked 60 hits of crack on a four-hour car journey.”

    You’d think he’d have known before their so-called “revelation”…

  • “This does have the potential to be a great series – it looks as though some real effort has gone into the show. The best thing we can hope for now is a full repeat of Spitting Image, from the beginning, on ITV4 – the show more than deserves it.”

Fuck yes. Interestingly, some of my most-watched channels are ITV3 and ITV4 and my least-watched is ITV1. Make of that what you will (ie that ITV used to be great and is now fucking shit).

  • “Well Doug might stand by Craig seeing as they have known each other for so long, if he sorts himself out and gets clean.”

I approach this subject with a lot of trepidation, but didn’t Craig admit to taking cocaine during the rape case over ten years ago?

  • Sorry for not approving all your comments earlier – I was away this weekend.

I’ll sort out the spam controls so I don’t block you all – I’ve misconfigured it, really.

  • Erm, incidentally, also sorry for reporting that Best Ever Spitting Image was a series, rather than a special – I was sure I’d read that somewhere, but after hunting around, I think I just MADE IT UP.

It pisses me off when I do things like that, though. It’s bad enough that we’re so lazy at the moment, let alone being completely incompetent as well.

  • >Where the heck did my comment go to and why did lumberjack steal it?

I can assure you, I did not ‘steal’ your comment. Quite frankly I don’t know who you are, where you came from, nor that you had apparently previously posted a similar comment to my own.

To the best of my knowledge the last thing I ‘stole’ was free cable for one week during the 2004 Euro’s….

  • About this Beat the Geek DVD…

“Number of levels. Eight, each set in a different Red Dwarf location.

Number of questions per level. Six (per player).”

So there’s one question per episode of Red Dwarf, per player? That’s not very many, is it? Is this DVD going to be worth it?

  • Hey I’m a big Dwarf fan. Here in the US, I haven’t seen the pics of Mr. Charles, is it really him smoking crack or some BS? Whatever the case I hope he gets past this. Hopefully at some point we’ll get some new smeggin RD.

  • So there’s one question per episode of Red Dwarf, per player? That’s not very many, is it?

    Per play.

There are more questions than that:

Number of quiz questions. More than 1,300, split between Viewer (regular Dwarf questions), Geek (hardcore fans only) and General Knowledge (about the real world… apparently there’s all sorts of stuff out there)

  • “So there’s one question per episode of Red Dwarf, per player? That’s not very many, is it? Is this DVD going to be worth it?”

So, Hari, how many questions would you say makes a single play of the game worthwhile? 48 questions per game…say each question takes 30 seconds, plus feedback time, level changes, score updates, etc…. That means one one-player game takes around half an hour to play.

So question – isn’t half an hour (or a full hour in two-player) long enough for one crack at a DVD game? Wouldn’t any more be too much?

And, as Kirk points out, it’s not like you can’t play again and again, over and over, with different questions every time – 1,300 to choose from!

  • Andrew! You seem to have been missing for ages.

It does seem longer than some other games though – the ones I’ve played are 30 mins for two player. Not that I’m complaining in the least – I’m thoroughly looking forward to forcing my non-Dwarf fan family to play it come Christmas time. I think an hour is fine – most board games take that long…

  • > Andrew! You seem to have been missing for ages.

Yeah, dunno why that post took two days to appear…

    > It does seem longer than some other games though

To be fair, we haven’t done the full build, yet, and that estimate may be somewhat over. Or maybe not, the maths do make some sense.

Deluxe have been meticulous in researching all this, though. They’ve been very specific on what the game NEEDS to do to work well, to be properly-paced and not dull.

At the start of this whole thing, when it was first pitched as an idea, I’ll admit to being dubious. But as things have gone on I’ve become incredibly keen on it. I really think we have something special going on.

Oh, and wait til you see what’s happening with ther cover art…!

  • I agree, cant wait, mind you, I’m used to the kids making me look crap at games at Christmas, it’s kind of traditional…..

  • No, thank you for taking the time to approve my comments, it is greatly appreciated, thanks
