  • That’s really quite wrong.

So forgive me for sounding thicker than the offspring of a village idiot and a tv weather girl, but who exactly are those two wierd looking blokes in glasses, and that other chap in the hat talking to Lister? Maybe some flashbacks to pre-radiation leak Red Dwarf? Very Series 1, i like it.

I can’t wait for this DVD to come out.

  • > and that other chap in the hat talking to Lister?

It’s Lister’s dad. A scene where Lister meets his father in “Timeslides” is one of the script extracts, which has been so creatively named “Lister’s Father”.

    EDIT: Well, I’m guessing it’s Lister’s dad anyway…

  • > You guys wanna mouseover the images and read the tags, that?s what you wanna do?

    Firefox doesn’t do that :P

Anyway, yes, these are just works of beauty. For some reason, the fact that the extracts have series III settign with series 1 and 2 costumes just makes me so *happy*. It’s such a lovely, simple idea that clearly going to work wonders.

  • Firefox will do it if you use title=”” rather than alt. Alt is not meant to give tooltips, it’s meant to provide the text in the image or a description.

  • Firefox don’t do that? Just the zoom. Okay, that’s great, that’s really great…

Now – my nipples don’t work.

  • > While Bodysnatcher has been meticulously rebuilt to resemble Series I – occasionally to the writers’ chagrin, with the on-screen canteen still clearly too small to accommodate a thousand people!

Why would a ship with a crew of 169 need a thousand-person canteen exactly? :p

*points out the “LISTER-D-000169” line from Inquisitor as evidence that RnD realised what a terrible idea that Justice retcon was and thus;y reversed it*

[Actually, a ship with a crew complement of 169 probably would only need a canteen for about half that – it’d be shift-work, so no more than 70 or so people, max, would be working/having lunch breaks/etc at any one time].

And I’d really have liked to see a mixture of II & III sets for the Dad extract. Or, hell, set the thing mostly in II sets with the III science room or bunkroom…

    Keep thinking that.

I’m glad they did it with the Series III sets. After all – *that’s* how Dad would have been made, had the episode gone ahead. There’s no way they would have used the Series 2 sets for one episode, and then gone on and used different sets for the other five episodes. And whilst there’s the argument that it would have been cool to show the transition, I’m of the opinion that it should be as an accurate representation of how the episode would have looked as possible.

Mind you, I suspect that if they had actually made the episode, they would have used the Series III costumes as well…

  • Mind you, I suspect that if they had actually made the episode, they would have used the Series III costumes as well

“Suspect”? That’s as much a given as the sets, if you’re on the “based as much on how it would have looked as possible, kick, face it. And if you’re going to show one thing in transition, how hard could it have been to find a scene which could easily have gone in the I or II drive room, something like that…

  • ?Suspect?? That?s as much a given as the sets

Well, the reason I used ‘suspect’ was that it’s far, far easier to use the Series 1/2 costumes for one episode than it would be to use the sets. But of course, thinking about it, you’re right – they definitely would have used the III costumes, too. Personally, I would have done it all with the III costumes and the III sets, and not bothered with the 1/2 costumes at all.

In the end, it’s all academic, I suppose. Dad was never completed – it would have been rewritten anyway before being made. So it really does belong in this curious nether-world between II and III – and the way it was made does reflect this, as does your suggestion of using a set or two from the first two series. In the end, I suppose there’s no right way as to how to do it, and everyone’ll have different ideas.

  • Personally, I would have done it all with the III costumes and the III sets, and not bothered with the 1/2 costumes at all.

Although actually, the more I think about it, the more BORINGLY LITERAL this seems. Sure, it’s how the show would have been made – but… well, it isn’t really having fun with the script, is it? It should reflect the weird Series 2/III thing. So I take that back completely, and I’m talking bollocks.

So, yeah, I have no problem with Series 2 costumes/III sets. Perhaps you’re right – maybe it would have been fun to see a few Series 2 sets in there. But I suppose by doing it the way it’s been done, the piece has *always* got both a bit of Series 2, and a bit of Series 3 there, always on-screen AT THE SAME TIME. Which is a nice way to do it.

  • That last drawing looks interesting.

“Two Listers!” And one of them a hologramme.

And is that the bunk on fire?

Nice to see mugs murphy finally getting a little
more screen time, as was once intended.

  • Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ve just started a new job, so I didn’t have time during the week.

I’ll stop promising dates in future.
