“Buy it, or… don’t. It’s up to you.” News Posted by John Hoare on 27th March 2008, 07:59 Remember those videos featuring an, erm, blacked-up Rob and Doug last year, to promote all the various new Dwarfy stuff? It occurs to me that we never posted a definitive list of them. So here we go – if I’ve missed any scattered around the web anywhere, let me know and I’ll add them: The Bodysnatcher Collection Mini-site The Bodysnatcher Collection: Play.com The Bodysnatcher Collection: Amazon Just The Smegs Mini-site Just The Smegs: Amazon Red Dwarf Mobile It was great fun watching them again, actually, and their pathetic attempts at hard sell are extremely amusing. The Just The Smegs mini-site one even brings up one genuinely new bit of information (well, to me, anyway) – Cat’s “You don’t have to tell me twice!” stuff in Emohawk is based on Danny’s inability to remember lines, exactly like Robert’s “Don’t tell me – I’ve got it, I’ve got it…” lines the previous series. It’s so obvious once you know! I’m not quite sure these vids got enough recognition at the time, actually. Last year was so full of great things in Dwarf-land, that Rob and Doug reunited in front of the camera almost got lost in amongst everything else. But just think: a year and a half ago, it’s not something any of us thought we would see again. Indeed, it almost makes me wish that Rob and Doug were shot together for the The Beginning and It’s Cold Outside doccos on Bodysnatcher. But then, I guess that wouldn’t have fitted in with the format of the doccos established over the previous six installments…
These would have been great on the DVD, the conversation they came from probably would have yielded a few other nuggets of interest.
> These would have been great on the DVD, the conversation they came from probably would have yielded a few other nuggets of interest. Sadly these were all filmed long after the discs were authored. But, in fact, we shot pretty much to size. Two of the three chats are uncut, I think, and the other is tightened up (and slightly shuffled, in fact) but nothing interesting or useful was chopped. They kind talked to a time limit. There’s one great Amazon plug that didn’t get used where Doug used the opportunity to complain at not receiving his books yet – which was funny – but that’s about it.
I did like those links. Very funny indeed. Depressed that the Bodysnatcher will be the last Dwarf DVDs I ever buy. Unless I relent and buy Just the Smegs.
we shot pretty much to size Can someone who didn’t get told off by “Rob Grant’s daughter” make the appropriate joke about wide angle lenses? Thanks.
