Two new piccies! News Posted by Ian Symes on 18th March 2009, 12:55 Ah, Wednesday. Time for a Dave update. Providing you can find it, that is – when today’s article first went live, it wasn’t linked to on the Red Dwarf news index or the RSS feed, just on the front page of the main Dave site. This is both annoying and very silly – they seriously need a proper CMS. We even had to enlist the help of Si Bromley, for fuck’s sake. Anyway, this week: two new pictures! We can take the usual comments for granted – wow, they look amazing, these could almost be shots from Series VIII, look at Chris Barrie’s amusing face, etc. But it doesn’t make them any less true; once again, these are bloody excellent pictures. There’s not as much to say as there is for, say, the bunkroom pictures – not so many tasty background details to extract. Nevertheless, I shall attempt it. The first shot is interesting because of the lack of background details. Whereabouts are they, exactly? The article assures us that they’re back on Earth at this point, but I can’t figure out what the location is supposed to be. Something that’s largely wood-based, evidently. The sign in the background looks like it could be a shop or a supermarket, but other than that I’m stumped. The second pic is much more exciting, though – one of those ones that sends a tingle down your spine. It’s the crew, walking down a quiet road in 21st century Britain, having just stepped out of Carbug. Excellent. They all have surprised expressions on their beautiful faces, which is understandable given what we know about the plot. It does beg the question, though – where’s Katerina? We’ve barely seen hide nor hair of her outside a couple of shots on the Dwarf. As bloody excellent as this update is, it’s the final paragraph that’s the most exciting: Oh, and next week, we might, just might, have some very special videos from the set of the show, exclusive to Dave. BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEOS THIS TIME NEXT WEEK EVERYONE. This sounds like a twelve change of underwear trip.
next week, we might, just might, have some very special videos from the set of the show Just saw that and fainted.
we might, just might, have some very special videos from the set of the show Yes. Something special happened to me when i read that also.
am thinking the “carbug” is starbugs “chameleon circuit” or soemthing of the sort .probably completely wrong. again 2 great looking pics. is it just me or does kryten look slightly large in the 1st pic
Nice. And they kept the padding on Rimmer, after all. Instead of his jacket, they made his trousers of it.
> am thinking the ?carbug? is starbugs ?chameleon circuit That’s exactly what I thought – if they slip through some ‘hole’ or other, it changes automatically, much to their confusion.
I know this sounds strange, but Kryten’s legs look better – his ‘knee joint’ more…realistic (for an android). Oh, you know what I mean.
considering its only 3 episodes at 20 odd minuits each . we have seen and heard about an awefull lot of different locations sets and rooms ( corrie, richmond, bunkroom, the lab with the “simulant”,these locations today, the room where lister and cat have diving suits on,) have a feeling these episodes are going to be extreamly fast paced
it looks like the cloak thing on Starbug could be malfunctioning and merges the ‘disguise’ of the car with the look of starbug.
I would have thought Carbug is for a promotion to advertise Red Dwarf: Back to Earth in the alternative dimension the gang arrive in, it would fit in with the fact that posters for ‘Back to Earth’ have been seen on that comic shop they were filming in and the fact that the SFX cover appears in the episode.
“though you should feel free to come up with wild and whacky theories about the vehicle that sits out of focus in the background.” … said with an entirely straight face as if it was the first time we’d seen it. Heh. But look at its little legs! Brilliant.
Well Star Bug has a cloaking device, so does the TARDIS, Star Bug is bigger on the inside than the outside, so is the TARDIS.
Actually the TARDIS doesn’t have a cloaking device but it has become invisible, I got mixed up, really need to watch ‘The Invasion’ again.
We even had to enlist the help of Si Bromley, for fuck?s sake. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
My personal theory is that carbug was knocked up from the wreckage of Starbug 1. (Considering all the other craft were taken from the ship in Only the Good.) And yes, beautiful pictures. I find it amusing how Kryten always has the same grumpy-puzzled expression on all the promo pictures. The second is the highlight for me though. Nice to see carbug in service.
Hmm, my immediate thought when seeing that 2nd pic was that Starbug must have travelled through some space hole (black, white or otherwise), and on reaching a parallel universe transmorph-asized into a car.
Hmm, my immediate thought when seeing that 2nd pic was that Starbug must have travelled through some space hole (black, white or otherwise), and on reaching a parallel universe transmorph-asized into a car. Do you mean the rules of the universe actually altering Starbug directly? (Like Lister gaining a womb in the female-verse?) That’s interesting. Wouldn’t something have happened to Kryten too, in that case though? I’m not convinced that technology would change like that. It is possible that in the future of our universe we’d be capable of making flying cars and more advanced space-craft after all.
Wouldn?t something have happened to Kryten too, in that case though? Good point. It just seems to me that the Carbug must have been brought with the gang to Earth, rather than them picking one up at a dealership once arriving. I guess the skutters could have built it, but surely something more inconspicuous would have been better suited. On the flying car front, although the setting should be long into the future (if it is, in fact, Earth in 23rdish century) where flying cars could be in existance, I doubt the budget would allow it. Maybe all the cars of the future have legs and can do complicated dance routines…
>Wouldn?t something have happened to Kryten too, in that case though? … turning into a forty-something bloke in a rubber mask, perhaps?
Despite being ever-so-slightly pessimistic about this whole excursion, I have to admit that the posed group pic is great.
Somehow, I’m on some kind of Dave mailing list for the Dwarf news (I get it all direct from Dave TV, you know) – and it’s worth quoting from the end of the mail I recieved yesterday: “Feel free to use in your news sections, and on your fansites and blogs. Next week we’ll have the first video footage from the new three-part series (which starts on Friday 10th April, 9pm) and there will also be an exciting announcement.” So, not only will we have video next week – but something else exciting too…
> I?m on some kind of Dave mailing list for the Dwarf news (I get it all direct from Dave TV, you know) Really? You should have your own forum.
Just noticed Robert’s costume is looking increasingly cyberman-like. Particularly the moulding around the waist and legs. http://static.dave.uktv.co.uk/site_media/images/uploaded/2009/03/18/Group2-1000.jpg http://www.freewebs.com/jacksrandomrubble/cyberman2006.jpg How INTERESTING. Of course, by ‘interesting’ I actually mean, ‘interesting to no-one apart from me’.
