Ah, this is more like it. None of that brand new episodes nonsense for us – what we want is carefully filtered details of forthcoming releases of things we’ve already seen, along with massive piles of information about the behind-the-scenes minutia. Luckily, today’s TOS update has delivered in spades…

Firstly, the very first DVD Details article for BTE. Hooray! There’s confirmation that it’ll be a two-disc set, and the first official word on the much-speculated-about Director’s Cut. Yes, there’s going to be a feature-length cut, and yes, they’re also including the episodes as broadcast. This is absolutely perfect, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering past form.

In other news, a whole bunch of BTE info has been added to the site. The cast/crew list and library music guide are the best bits, obviously, but there’s also a few new shots in the gallery – including the one of the Creator, lovingly stolen and plonked above.

(Well, I think it’s new anyway, it’s so hard to keep up. It’s very nice, regardless.)

Join TOS, and consequently us, for more DVD fun this time next week. God, I hope there’s a sticker for us to review…

  • That one featured in the story with the cast going through the glass is superb!

Great to hear about the Directors Cut. HOW ABOUT a reversable sleve design that simulates a new cover AND the DVD cover in the episode (I know it was a box, but you get the idea)??????

    This! Please!

  • Great to see the music library has been updated as well. Looking forward to hearing the full ‘arriving through the TV’ track from BtE, part 2.

EDIT: …Is that track listed? Can’t seem to find it.

Must say, ‘Happily Never After’ from parts 1 & 3 is just fantastic, IMO.

  • This is good but what happened to the blu-ray version that was mentioned on daves website and as now disappered.

  • My guess – and it’s only a guess – is that the Bluray will be out later in the year, in time for Christmas.

  • Great to see the music library has been updated as well. Looking forward to hearing the full ?arriving through the TV? track from BtE, part 2.

EDIT: ?Is that track listed? Can?t seem to find it.

Yeah I’ve gone through them all and I can’t seem to find it either :S

  • That’s the most annoying track of them all, mostly cause the website has someone talking over the preview every 10 seconds. Can’t listen to tracks like that, make me want to smack someone.

Shame they’ve not included the “through the TV” music on the list, as it was the best music in my opinion. But other then that it’s a nice addition to the guide.

  • It’s this one, isn’t it?

‘Quest’ by Gabriel Shadid & Tobias Marsberger (Epic Score ES002 Action & Adventure Vol. 2, via Boosey Tracks) – Journey to Earth.

I’d guess that’s what “Journey to Earth” means…

  • I’ve got my mittens on them now, and none of them on the list are the TV segment… the “Journey to Earth” track should be really titled “Journey Through Earth” as it’s the music used whenever Cat puts a Squid down somewhere.

  • >It?s this one, isn?t it? I?d guess that?s what ?Journey to Earth? means?

Yeah, that’s what I thought. But on the Boosey & Hawkes site, ‘Quest’ sounds more like the track heard on approach to the comic book store.

  • It could be that one of them has the wrong title in the tracklistings… I remember when going through the Series VIII ones that happening at some point, and it was the track beneath the right one etc.

  • I remember when going through the Series VIII ones that happening at some point, and it was the track beneath the right one

Yeah I sent that in to TOS to correct it, I’m not sure if they’ve updated it, though.

  • Thanks Andrew :) Shall nosey now.

EDIT: I’ve listened and either I’m thinking of the wrong bit, or it’s still wrong :S
I think people, or at least myself, are talking about the moment where Katarina is saying their dimension is invalid, and Rimmer gets sent through and smashes the display etc.

  • >I think people, or at least myself, are talking about the moment where Katarina is saying their dimension is invalid, and Rimmer gets sent through and smashes the display etc.

Yes, that’s the one. It crosses over the TV/Price Smashers scene.

  • I can’t believe it’s taken me reading the new library music info to realise that the same music is used for both the Garden of Rememberance and over the Lister/Kochanski stuff at the end.

Good news about the full cut and mention of commentary.

  • Well the ‘Portal’ has been added to the Library Music section… however, it’s still inaccurate haha. I’m sure we’ll get there in the end peeps :P

Amusing how the most liked track seems to be the hardest to find. Perhaps it was in a completley seperate library, seeing it seems to be nowhere near the albums previously used on Extreme.

And in regards to the DVD, I’m wondering what background they’ll use for the cover now. Unless of course they still go with the in-screen version of packaging. If they go with the bunkroom it’ll be too similar, and if they go with the water tank it’ll be too bodysnatcher.

    Hmm…

  • >?No really, right now. I?m writing this in the editing suite.? :D

Don’t look too impressed, he means his bedroom.

  • Yay :D We actually have most of these tracks at work on CDs.

Anyways back to the DVD. I hope they don’t put too much extra stuff in the directors cut. Hopefully they’ll take some stuff out if anything. Extra content doesn’t always equal better. I feel that people who thought that BtE (the first episode especially) was a bit slow in getting anywhere will hate a directors cut even more if it’s used to plonk extra stuff in. Perhaps keep any major extra stuff to the Deleted Scenes part.

  • Ooh here’s a question. Will the DVD has a 5.1 sound track? Perhaps even a 7.1 for the Bluray?

  • I feel that people who thought that BtE (the first episode especially) was a bit slow in getting anywhere will hate a directors cut

While I agree that the first episode could use some trimming (mainly the pauses in one of the earlier scenes) I think the other two episodes could use a bit more footage.

As others have mentioned, if there are scenes of Rimmer and Cat on the bus for example. Also the later scenes in the last episode felt a bit rushed to me. Corrie, bam. Pyramid. Bam. It was almost as if the stepped from one world to another between scenes. (Which I suppose they did, in a sense.) Even if it was just a bit of driving or their reactions to the building from the outside, etc. Not required for the plot, certainly but it would aid the pacing.

  • I wonder if they are simply using the term ‘director’s cut’ as another Blade Runner reference, when what they really mean is extended (of course it will be a director’s cut as well, but eh.).

In any case, I would prefer more please. I don’t think there were any problems with the pacing. In fact, the only gripe I have in this regard is the montage sequence of Katerina building the dimension cutter, and put in the context of an hour or so long episode I don’t see it being a problem.

  • Me: ‘@bobbyllew What is Doug’s reaction to BTE’s success? I haven’t seen it documented and would be interested to know. Thanks :)’
Bobbyllew: ‘@j_dalton Doug is revealing that at this very moment. He’s doing his commentary recording right now.’

    Good news, right?

  • ?Cold City? by David O?Brien (Audio Network 1165/1).

    THAT’S THE BADGER!!!

It’s got a ‘Clubbed To Death’ feel about it doesn’t it?

  • Investigation successful!

Aww, are you now allowed strings on your guitar? :P

?Cold City? by David O?Brien (Audio Network 1165/1).

Wheyhey, success at last! Danke shon! *thumbs up*

Now all we need to double check is if the music listed for Ackerman’s gospel album is correct from Krytie TV and we’re sorted… but that can wait I’m sure haha!

  • TOS says:

‘Satisfied’ by Andrea Heyes. (Carlin, Disc 140, Track 13.) Played on Ackerman’s stereo.

Another slight misfire there, actually it’s:

‘Kumbaya’ by Tony Meehan. (Carlin, Disc 140, Track 10.)

Also. To reiterate the one that I spotted when we did the Library Music article…

‘Motor Racer’ by Chris Goulstone (Carlin, CAR 209, Track 20) (Not Rock Landscape, not a big thing really, but if you’re searching by name, and not by CD…)

  • Yeah I’d fathomed Motor Racer but didn’t think the stereo track was the same Carlin disc. I’ll nosey now.

EDIT: One interesting factor regarding the library where the Portal music has come from, is how they’re allowing purchases of their music iTunes style for personal use. Thought that was quite different. So there’s at least one track everyone can get their hands on who don’t have access to libraries!

  • New user yes..

But i thought I’d try and be useful so here are the the songs that i could scrounge up from Back to earth,

Yes i used the official track listing from TOS,
Enjoy, they are in a zip file ^__^

    -EDIT-

Here’s a link for the much requested portal music,
    http://www.zshare.net/audio/59391242924b7451/

  • Cheers, man. I’ve downloaded them all – I can put up the song from when Carbug heads to Coronation Street if anyone wants it. Though it’s just ripped from a Youtube video so in terms of quality it probably won’t be perfect.

  • The only one I’m missing, seeing I don’t have access to Royalty Free stuff like I do libraries… is the Blade Runner piece used during the Nose World scene.

And the two versions that are on the website either are naff, or have a very very irritating overlay every 10 seconds!

  • >The only one I?m missing is the Blade Runner piece used during the Nose World scene.

I think Pete’s got that on his iPod.

  • with all the buzz about X at the moment, i fancied having some Dwarf music in the car. But I can’t find my copy of the BTE soundtrack. I know I downloaded it once upon a time, but now its nowhere. And now all the links on here are down. Anyone willing to share a new copy? and did the ‘nose world’ music ever turn up?

  • Everyone has seen your original request, don’t resurrect old comment threads with the exact same post, please.
