Tickets application opening at 2pm! New series blurb! Exclamation marks! News Posted by Jonathan Capps on 11th November 2011, 11:47 So, here’s the Red Dwarf X ticket info, as promised last week. To summarise, you’re going to want to be on the Lost in TV site at 2pm to be part of the insane dash for tickets. Gulp. How GNP would be dealing with ticket allocations has obviously been a bit of a hot topic over the last few months, especially as Red Dwarf is a show with such a large and devoted online fanbase, many were hoping for something a bit more than the traditional lottery of applying for free TV tickets… As it turns out GNP have gone for the latter method of using a booking agency, but with the added factor that they’ve given readers of TOS a forewarning to make sure they’re ready, which is a nice touch and, frankly, the best we could’ve hoped for. As Doug revealed yesterday, the recordings will take place at Shepperton Studios on the following dates: Friday 16th December 2011 Friday 23rd December 2011 Saturday 7th January 2012 Friday 13th January 2012 Friday 20th January 2012 Friday 27th January 2012 And, as if that isn’t enough, we’ve now got a SUPER EXCITING SERIES BLURB: Red Dwarf returns for its first full series since 1999. Lister, Rimmer, Cat and Kryten face six exciting new adventures from the pen of Doug Naylor. The classic crew, the classic ship… with a brand new vision. The universe will never be the same… Good luck, everybody, here it comes!

“Of course, you may note that the competition rules don’t specify that it has to be a Red Dwarf moment – but we trust you all to be loyal enough not to pick something from Maid Marian.” Let’s all enter and pick something from The Crouches.
“Of course, you may note that the competition rules don’t specify that it has to be a Red Dwarf moment – but we trust you all to be loyal enough not to pick something from Maid Marian Where is this written?
Oh is this the Danny JJ competition, sorry. Colour me thick, I was too excited about the audience Tickets, i didn’t realise there was two updates…
Boy, I’m really regretting selling my soul for series VIII tickets now. Could have used that bargaining chip for this sucker….
It’s no suprise, but they have just added this bit on the tickets site: PLEASE ONLY SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR ONE RECORDING (multiple applications will be discarded and only the first application processed).
Would the contact details all being the same be a bit of a giveaway on that score? Anyhow, from my vague memory of the series 8 recordings, despite being overbooked I remember a few folk turning up that didn’t have tickets. As there were some gaps to fill they let them in anyway. Occupy Shepperton?
>I remember a few folk turning up that didn’t have tickets. Anyone who does this is going to have a very long walk back to Shepperton station while the people with tickets are watching the recordings. Seriously: DO NOT DO THIS.
Cappsy – ditto. This blows being in ICU out of the water. At least I can’t *remember* that. Whatever happens today will remain with me forever.
If I apply for the highest number of tickets, say 4, could I still end up getting 2? Or is it a case of 4 of nothing?
If I apply for the highest number of tickets, say 4, could I still end up getting 2? Or is it a case of 4 of nothing You would only get the number you applied for if you got any.
Okay guys. This shit’s about to get serious. We might not make out alive. I just wanna say – good luck guys. See you on the other side.
Well i’ve put mine in and now i’m sat waiting to see if it goes through or crashes. Tense. YOU CAN SEE WORDS?!?!?!? I’ve had a white screen for 9 BASTARD minutes!
In the meantime i’m quite enjoying Doug’s tweets: Slower than Rimmer opening his wallet. Apparently the cause is that there are quite a lot of people trying to get tickets which has taken them by surprise. I was in a meeting with two people a couple of weeks ago and they said, ‘What happens if we can’t get rid of all the tickets.’
TWEET: tvaudience Lost in TV Red Dwarfers: you can book for tickets by sending an e-mail instead to admin@lostintv.com (stating date and no. of tickets).
Follow up Tweets from Lost In TV (@tvaudience): That should help alleviate the traffic – we’ll process e-mail applicants on a 1st-come-1st-served basis. We’ll let you know ASAP when the site is back up. We’re very, very sorry for the inconvenience – we know you’ve been patient today. Dates are 16/23 Dec and 7/13/20/27 Jan (doors 5.30pm, finish 10pm).
I emailed them, and included number of tickets, date, my name and membership number. I Tweeted them to check if that was enough info for them, and they Tweeted back to say that was “More than enough, thanks for bearing with us.” And breathe. And hope. And pray.
Nice one SI. Cus I dont use Twitter, and I’m bunking off work here on the lie of busted tyre! Email sent.
Until now Have I Got News For You was the show that I found it hardest to get tickets for, but it’s got nothing on this.
Much thanks for the twitter tip, Si. Also received confirmation email. So did everyone pick a date at random, or like me, over-analyse the dates and pick the one that you thought least people would go for?
I went for the Saturday. I was going to go for the 23rd December because I thought less people would try for that date but accommodation might be an issue that close to Christmas.
I thought less people would choose Friday the 13th, but still went for Jan 20th. Annoyingly, someone Tweeted that they’d emailed and just asked for any date in January, which I wish I’d done. Ho-hum.

Yes, I just saw that they said that for anyone who didn’t put a date they’d just give them what there was space for. Quite annoying for those of us who actually did what we were supposed to as we could now end up losing out.
> >I remember a few folk turning up that didn’t have tickets. Seriously: DO NOT DO THIS. Oooh get you :p You’re right and I wasn’t seriously suggestion anyone does it, just stating what happened THIRTEEN years ago.
Lost in TV Tickets are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis – that applies to both those received online and over e-mail. #reddwarf 3 minutes ago via TweetDeck
:( Tried to get on the site for an hour (gaining me some stern looks from the big cheeses in work)… then dialled as soon as I could, held in a queue for 20 mins, only to be told they’re all gone. Gutted, I am.
tvaudience Lost in TV (twitter): I’m afraid we’re now fully booked, through e-mail and online applications. Any requests still received will be placed on a waiting list. …in less then an hour and a half… impressive
Shoulda sold them for £30 a pop, bit of a budget booster! Seriously though, it baffles me why the most popular shows with rabid followings don’t charge entry for recordings. That may sound opportunistic, but I doubt many people would begrudge parting with a few quid to see the show. Hell, I would’ve travelled to the studios from Swansea to see it, so I easily woulda forked out £20 for the right too.
I suppose joining the waiting list a full hour after all the tickets were allocated is probably not a good thing… …I’m now praying for a mutant bird flu to wipe out 75% of the nations population to increase my slim chances!! :(
I think they should have given first pick to fanclub members. It is supposed to be the official club, after all so a perk like this would have been a nice thank-you from Grant Naylor. I haven’t been a member since about 2001 btw so I ain’t biased.
I have to say, even though Lost in TV’s servers Were Not Prepared For the Quantity of Audience Red Dwarf Attracts, they’ve been doing a good job using Twitter to confirm to people that their emails have been received and to clarify details like this.
Still not got an email, though I did get a Tweet from the owner of the Lost In TV site, and he said that, as I sent my email at 2:18pm, It should be early enough, and to keep an eye on my in-box over the course of the next week. :)
Well I hope I succeed. I wish I had checked earlier, but at least I checked today at all. Have applied and e-mail both addresses so now we wait.

Quite annoying for those of us who actually did what we were supposed to as we could now end up losing out. Looks like that won’t be the case, I spotted this tweet from Lost in TV earlier: “… in the event that the requested date is full we’ll do our best to offer an alternative (where available).”
Oh. And. This means there is definately confirmed, going to be a studio audience for the shows now. :-)
Looks like that won’t be the case, I spotted this tweet from Lost in TV earlier: “… in the event that the requested date is full we’ll do our best to offer an alternative (where available).” And with that, any quibble I had is gone. Splendid and tremendous.
Good job I’ve got Skyrim so I can KILL deer, chickens and people (after a couple of hours on the forums raging over the fact that PC users have been effed over with a cut-and-paste port built on 5-year-old hardware…) instead of thinking about the completely non-related fact that I’m 90% sure I’ll have to give up my spot for Shepperton anyway if it arises. Still, at least this should turn out to be great TV, without interference from the restrictive, choking, stifling, suffocating bureaucracy and creativity-aborting compliance culture of the BBC… (reading ‘I, Partridge…’ :P)
I left a comment on Dave’s Red Dwarf page, just saying that I’d emailed and was now hoping I got a ticket. Now, people who post there didn’t seem to know anything about the quite big events yesterday… What websites do these Red Dwarf fans look at? Because it would appear not to be the Official Red Dwarf website, which you’d think would be up there as a must-visit, really. As there are viewers who only look at their site, Dave really need to give more info to their visitors, even if it’s only telling people to regularly check TOS.
As there are viewers who only look at their site, Dave really need to give more info to their visitors, even if it’s only telling people to regularly check TOS. Or G&T. Again.
I’ve since left a comment on Dave’s site, making the same points, and leaving links to TOS, Lost in TV, important Twitter types, and finally, warning people about the language, G&T. That was my good deed for the day.
If you google “Red Dwarf”, TOS is your top hit. G+T is also way above Dave. If people are going there as their primary source of information, that’s their own stupid fault.
Thing is, TOS has been down so much recently. I really don’t know whats happening, but it’s just not the same since Andrew left…. :)
So, presumably we’ll start getting confirmations at some point this week. Nervous. Post in here when/if you get tickets (as if you wouldn’t anyway)!
If I’m not part of the first of applicants to get confirmation, I’m gonna hate reading this page once people start sharing their good news. :/
Stolen from TOS: Hi everyone, Firstly, many apologies again for our website issues that blighted Friday afternoon’s ticket launch. After an exciting build-up it really was the last thing that anyone wanted. I completely sympathise with people’s frustration; many a time have I sat in front of my computer trying to book tickets for an event at launch time, then had the booking website break down under pressure and wonder to myself “Why on earth did they not prepare for the demand?” I promise that we had tried, but it clearly wasn’t enough. Our servers simply couldn’t take the strain and I’m so sorry for the frustration experienced during this time. Pre-launch, I had joked on Twitter that our servers would only be good enough for ‘silicon heaven’ after the ensuing rush – I had no idea just how much this would come back to haunt me. To answer your enquiries, the situation now is that lots and lots of you have applied for tickets and we have a long list of people waiting to be confirmed. Please be patient with us, we are in the process of putting the applications into our system in the order they arrived with us. This is ordinarily very straightforward but our team are having to manually process the e-mail applications which can be a little time consuming. We had not planned to send out the tickets immediately, in any case, as we are waiting for the final details of the ticket to be confirmed. I can’t promise when we will be able to send these out, but I’m hoping to at least be able to confirm who has successfully got tickets over the next few days. I’ll endeavour to keep you posted with how this process is going. In the meantime, thanks again for your patience – fire away if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to help. Jay http://www.lostintv.com
So, I assume we’ve all heard about tomorrow? Lost In TV start sending out the e-mails, letting us know if we’ve been successful, and even letting us know if we haven’t? Blimey. They’re good people.
When i’ve had tickets from them in the past I have to say they have been very good. I had tickets to something last December when the snow really hit badly and they emailed every day in the week running up to the show to let us know it was still on, any changes etc. Normally I’m used to having to phone to find out so that was nice.
My thoughts about this whole ticket frenzy, Red Dwarf and me: http://siandhisramblings.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-life-of-love-of-red-dwarf-and-week.html Not particularly important, but it’s there if you fancy a goosey.
Since you got the dig in AGAIN, I’ll point out that I never actually said the update would be POSTED at 11.30 sharp. Just that you should be there ready for it. Andalsoitsnotmyfaulttheservercrashedthatmorningsosodoff.
I was just emphasising how crazy we were, and how long it seemed, when in fact the server was down for just seven minutes. No dig intended, honest.
Excellent. Once everyone has their dates confirmed we should have a mini G&T meet in a pub before recordings.
2 tickets for 20th Jan. *big grin* Also, is this the most-replied-to-in-the-shortest-amount-of-time piece on G&T ever?
Congratulations to everybody getting tickets. >Also, is this the most-replied-to-in-the-shortest-amount-of-time piece on G&T ever? I’d say a few articles around BTE got a few more, head fuck Monday and the topics for discussing the episodes after they aired (they went into second pages in just a few hours!).
A thought occurs. How is G&T planning to cover the next couple of months spoiler wise? I recall the issue raising it’s head back in the days of email & mailing lists when Series VIII was shooting, whereas obviously it wasn’t a problem circa VI. Twitter & Facebook however bring it to a whole new level. Clearly Dwarf isn’t the first sitcom to film before a live audience in the twitter age, but it probably is the one with the most hardcore geek fan-base. Where the how, what, why, when and who is dissected far more ravenously than on something like the IT Crowd.
2 for December 16th. Having had tickets for series VII that I couldn’t use as I was too young I couldn’t be more pleased.
Shameless, desparate crosspost with another thread… :) Hello! I haven’t posted for a while but am still lurking about… Now I would like to ask this magnificent forum for a favour… I received an email telling me I have tickets for the recording on Friday 16th… which ordinarily would have me jumping up and down screaming for joy. Unfortunately, I have been told I have to work Friday night – with no chance of getting out of it whatsoever… SO… I have two tickets. Anybody want to swap with me? Please, pretty please, with sugar on? Any other date is fine. Anybody want to save the skin of an old-school Dwarfer? Thanks :) Danny
> How is G&T planning to cover the next couple of months spoiler wise? This is definitely something we’re going to make absolutely clear closer to the time, as I think it’s important that everyone knows exactly what can be talked about as well as not. No doubt we’ll have some clarification from Doug or someone at recordings, but I think we’re all loath to have any plot details spoiled on here. We’ll certainly not be doing that in our set reports, and I don’t think it should be allowed in the Forum, either. There’ll be loads of other things to discuss, I’m sure. But, yeah, proper clarification will be forthcoming.
I hovered the mouse over the email for a while full of excitement. I knew I was only on the waiting list and that chances are slim….but there’s always a chance…. Dear Antony, Thanks for applying for the WAITING LIST for the recording of RED DWARF X, at: Shepperton Studios Studios Road Shepperton Shepperton TW17 0QD 020 530 8100 We regret that due to the popularity of the show, the series is currently fully booked. However, your name is on our waiting list and we will be in touch if/when further tickets become available. You have not been booked in to see the show. Thank you for taking the time to join the waiting list. All the best, Jay Honosutomo (Lost in TV) AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!
@Smeg4Brains you can log into your lost in tv account and see if you have been successful. Just encase the email got lost along the way…
Onthe waiting list. My car only went and bloody broke down last friday didnt it. Bah. Not expecting to get tickets now but guess you never know…
But seriously thanks once again for this site, and the help in this thread, I waited for the news on Friday thinking 12pm would be ticket time, and when it arrived, it announced the 2pm opening and I start backshift work at 2pm so I rang in and faked a tyre puncture as an excuse to be 30 minutes late, and sat in a layby near work with my laptop to try and get tickets, and it’s only the email twitter reposting here that gave me a chance to get in the running when I was just about to give up pressing F5, and now, with no email or any confirmation at all back from Lost in TV, I logged in as suggested above, and jumped out my chair to see 2 tickets for January 13th. 2012 is going to start brilliantly!!
BOOM! 4 Tickets for Friday 13th January. i may lose my job as a result of being able to go, but it’s risk i’m willing to take.
> 27th January See you in the bar at the Anchor Hotel. Is that a good place to stay? Handy for the studios?
Just happened across the last 5 minutes or so of Gunmen on Dave. Dare I hope I’m going to see something nearly as awesome as that being recorded in January? Okay, now it’s sunk in I reckon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29_uSlEEPSk
It would appear that due to a bit of luck I’m going on the 23rd as well now. Happier than Oliver Reed in a pub!
This is very good to know: http://reddwarf.co.uk/news/2011/11/18/audience-tickets-update/ It’s worth pointing out that – unlike regular television audiences – tickets for this series are not being overbooked. If you have a ticket, then you have a seat.
Good. I’ll be travelling from Newcastle. I’d be pretty pissed off if I turned up with a ticket and was turned away.
It’s worth noting that pretty much all TV shows – and anything where tickets are free – do tend to oversubscribe. If you had tickets for Never Mind The Buzzcocks, even if you’d travelled all the way from Newcastle, if you weren’t far enough ahead in the queue you wouldn’t get in. You could be pissed off all you want, but their argument would be that the ticket was free – your travel costs were your own problem, and you made the choice to take the risk. So, you know, these really are exceptional circumstances brought about by a specific decision on GNP’s part to make sure that ticket numbers matched seat numbers. I’m hoping people remember that amid all the complaints about the process being “unfair” or in some way not considerate of fans’ needs.
E-tickets starting to arrive in people’s inboxes, I see. Nice to see Do not reveal the story plot lines, even with spoiler warning! on there. Hope people take note.
So, you know, these really are exceptional circumstances brought about by a specific decision on GNP’s part to make sure that ticket numbers matched seat numbers. I’m hoping people remember that amid all the complaints about the process being “unfair” or in some way not considerate of fans’ needs. I’m guessing you’re getting some complaints on twitter then? Honestly though, I think everyone on here is perfectly happy with the way things were done, and the decision not to oversubcribe is an especially nice move that should really help out those who have a long way to travel. Kudos all round.
So…if I turned up early enough and just one person with a ticket doesn’t show for any reason….say a bomb warning gets anonymously called into the London Tube or something like that. There’s a chance I might get in?
> their argument would be that the ticket was free – your travel costs were your own problem, and you made the choice to take the risk. I’d have taken the risk too, just got there as early as I could. It is great to know that we’re guaranteed seats though – I didn’t know that wasn’t usually the case. I certainly don’t think there’s been anything unfair about the application process.
So…if I turned up early enough and just one person with a ticket doesn’t show for any reason….say a bomb warning gets anonymously called into the London Tube or something like that. There’s a chance I might get in? I know you’re probably joking, but I really have to stress: please do not do this. Not only will you have wasted your trip, but trying to get on the Shepperton site without a valid reason for being there makes you a genuine security risk. If enough people turned up without tickets, it could even put the whole thing in jeopardy, because they might be forced to just turn EVERYONE away. That’s a worst-case scenario, but it would only take something like fifty people turning up without tickets and causing problems for it to become a realistic possibility. If there are empty seats, they will not, under any circumstances, be given to people without tickets. They’ll be kept empty.
Very comforted by these details given my friends and I are coming down from Scotland. Who can beat that?!
In all honesty, I would not have done that and was only joking…Knowing my luck though, there probably will be some incident with all eyes looking in my direction now!!
@2X4B-523P Thanks for the advise. In the end I had to email them and ask what had happened. They told me that I’d been put on the waiting list in the order that they received my original application. I sent my original one at about 2:30 though so I think I’ve been mugged out of some tickets here.
Looks like more tickets have become availible. Just had an email to say I can have the 16th or 23rd. :-D
Nice one smeg4brains! Excellent so the returns list has reached 2.30pm and beyond then. I got another email from them as well, let me see now… “the hit BBC show MY LIFE IN BOOKS, hosted by Anne Robinson” urggh, fuck off lost in tv emails, I only wanted you for you Dwarf tickets, I’m not interested in a long term relationship involving more shows.
I’m eager people keep in mind that amid all the complaint about the procedure life form “unjust” or in some way not thoughtful of fans’ wants. Arctic Monkeys Tickets || The Black Keys Tickets
