The ratings are in… and it’s very good news indeed. Trojan averaged out at 1.46 million, or a 6.3% share of the total television audience. And that’s just the overnights – it doesn’t factor in Dave Ja Vu,  same-week repeats and PVR viewings. It beat BBC Four, BBC Three, ITV2 and CHANNEL 4 in its timeslot. It’s the second highest rated UKTV programme of all time, behind Back To Earth. The fact that it’s slightly down onBTE shouldn’t concern us – bank holiday weekend ratings are always higher than a standard mid-week slot, and Series X has six episodes worth of total viewings to gather.

Coming up later today – a proper Dwarfcast version of our Trojan Instant Reaction. We haven’t quite managed to fix all of the sound problems (although they are improved), but at least we’ve taken out the 20 minutes of dead air in the middle. We’ll also be posted our massive written review of the episode either later today or early tomorrow. Please don’t break our website again in the meantime.

  • Space on BTE. I really enjoyed the Dwarfcast! Stand out was Doug, it’s as though you caught him off guard somehow, he’s answers were really frank and exciting, short but perfectly formed!

Bill Person is epic without question.

I also like the added input from Jo and Jezz, just expands the whole thing. And it’s not just a man view.

You heard Ian break the website!

  • Have to say I thought the Dwarfcast was excellent, enjoyed it almost as much as the episode itself.

…mostly because Jono Capps’ voice is sexy as hell ;-)

  • I listened to the final half hour or so of the ‘Cast live last night, and I’ve just listened to the first part (though I skipped past the music), and Bill Pearson is brilliantly honest, isn’t he?! Like Norm in that respect, only…not. I’ve now downloaded part two, will have a listen later. ;)

  • It’ll be interesting to see if the Dave website viewing figures of the episode are released. It’s not going to be iPlayer numbers, but i imagine it will have a decent number of viewers to add to the total. Especially with all those clever American with proxies :D

It’s worth noting that unlike BBC channels, not everyone can get a signal for Dave (such as myself despite buying an aerial especially for the occasion) so streaming numbers may be higher than normal.

Also the site was having some problems yesterday so it obviously had a fair bit of traffic.

  • Well that goes to show there is an audience, hopefully they’ll come back for Fathers & Suns, as that seems much more better story, narrative wise and one I’m eagerly looking forward too, as nice to have semi sequel or continuation of plot from Ouroboros. looking forward to DwarfCast, enjoyed Radio show and the “lift/waiting” music was cool touch.

Like I said in the other thread, people seem to over-focus on BtE pt 1, and forget that the initial showing of BtE pt 2 *didn’t break 1m* on overnights. I’m sure ~1.5m for RDX ep 1 is in-line with or better than expectations since it’s already around 150% of the first-screening ratings of BtE 2 & 3!

The more important question for renewal is “what will eps 5 & 6 get”. If those are over 1m, then pending actor availability, I’m sure we’ll see RDXI.

  • ‘Back to Earth’ Part 2 had extremely tough competition with a crossover with Britain’s Got Talent. ‘Back to Earth’ Part 2 and ‘Trojan’ should have a similar overnight (1.7m) for all four airings in the night.

  • There are other factors to consider too. For example Red Dwarf is currently number 3 on the iTunes TV chart, but was at number 1 at some point in the last day or so. That says a lot!

  • Officially the most popular show on any digital channel?

More viewing figures than Channel 4?

    Pretty fucking incredible.

And factoring in the Series X DVD sales…I’m sure there’s a fair few executive cocks at Dave that are pretty freaking hard right now.

Yes, and everyone should go and buy the series on iTunes. I had to create an account but it was worth it to support the series. Plus I now don’t have to have the dog tag in the corner and I get a quick model shot where the ad break was.

  • I’m one of the clever Americans who watched it on Dave Demand. I know of at least eight others who did as well. It may not boost the numbers much, but since I had such a trial getting to the player, it seems we broke the website more than once. Bring on episode 2!

  • In the preview for tonight’s repeat over the Mock the Week credits, Dave showed the Crawford-holding-a-gun reveal as one of the clips. Seems a spoiler-y choice for viewers catching it for the first time.

  • Crawford holding a gun was also used as a teaser for ‘in a week’s time’ at the end of MTW on 27th September. :/

  • To be fair, if you’re a Red Dwarf fan who doesn’t know that all simulants are evil, then you probably deserve to have it spoilered.

  • Here’s a thing I’ve just noticed. The Dave site has got a series X episode guide, which has the (slightly spoilery) synopses for each episode, but which also include a couple of photos we (or I, at least) haven’t seen before (eps 4 and 6 in particular).

    Just thought I’d mention it.

  • (I am amused that they picked the same picture as me for Lemons, and the same picture I was GOING to use for Entangled until I changed my mind at the last minute.)

  • >At least we still don’t know what the vogans look like.

Only coz Pecospete won’t put himself as his display pic.

  • Those same pictures were used in Shortlist’s episode guide last thursday incidently. I forgot to get a copy to scan at the time.

We’ve got a copy, I’ll try and remember to scan it tomorrow.

  • We here at the Vogon Construction Fleet had to watch it on YouTube 5 days later!
Thank you GNP for letting it say up! Now we will not put the Intergalactic Freeway restroom exit in your back yard! It was a good show!

  • Oh, we’re back on that, are we?

The one for The Beginning was actually a different one, I think.
