DwarfCasts from Ganymede & TitanIt’s the final instant reaction Dwarfcast of the series, beset from all sides by technical problems that make Red Dwarf X‘s production look like a walk in the park. But still, this version of the ‘cast is the definitive way to listen to how me, Cappsy, Danny, John, Tanya and TORDFC’S Jo reacted to The Beginning, joined along the way by special guests Jonathan ‘Jonsmad’ Young and Seb ‘Seb’ Patrick. There’s also yet more exclusive news regarding the next Dimension Jump convention, a summary of our views on the series as a whole, and an ultra-rare piece of sincerity right at the end.

Now, the fuck ups. An hour or so in to the live broadcast, we dropped off the air due to the Spreaker console crashing. Thankfully, it happened at a fairly clean edit point, so this edited version of the ‘cast simply bridges the gap between the remounted show with a little jingle. We dropped off the air once more as we were beginning to wrap up, so rather than trying to start a third broadcast, we just carried on recording at our end as if everything was fine. So the last few minutes of this mp3 are never before heard! See if you can spot the exact moment that Jonathan Capps realised we’d dropped off air. There’s also an issue with our Skype correspondents – they couldn’t actually hear everything that we were saying, consequently they don’t always answer our questions and there’s a lot of talking over one another. Apologies to Jon and Seb for this cock-up; hopefully it won’t matter too much to you, dear listener.

DwarfCast 41 – The Beginning: Instant Reaction (88.1MB)

A genuine and heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in our ludicrous venture to broadcast live after each episode; those that listened live, sent in comments, tweeted us, or downloaded the podcast afterwards. It’s been incredibly good fun, and your feedback has been extremely rewarding. Thanks once more to our guest interviewees over the course of the series – Bill Pearson, Craig Charles, Doug Naylor, Rebecca Blackstone and Steven Wickham – and to all our very good friends who have joined us in blathering on – Jo Sharples, Jezzmund Tutu, Alex Newsome, Kris Carter, Rich Lawden, Curtis Threadgold, Carrie & Kiran Parsons, Pete Martin, Seb Patrick, Julian Hazeldine and Jonathan Young. Dwarfcasts will return in: Red Dwarf X – Just The Interviews.

  • Yes, well done, you bunch of clever cunts. There are a lot of older Dwarfcasts I’ve *still* not listened to, largely due to low memory space my end, but I’ve listened to all six of these Live sproutings, and thoroughly enjoyed them, disappearing to the bedroom for a couple of hours of a Thursday night. Then, after a good wank, I’m ready for you lot.
    So, good show, Team G&T.

    Now fuck off.

  • SORRY FOR TALKING OVER EVERYONE LIKE A BIG TWAT it wasn’t that I was ignoring you it was that I couldn’t hear you. SORRY.

  • The banner looks like, ‘The Beginning……..Of Pedophila”

……You better do a Dwarfcast for the DVD!

  • Current plan is a massive written review of the DVD, and a Dwarfcast summarising our thoughts on the series as a whole, which might well include the DVD.

  • Have really enjoyed listening to these – now mandatory after each new ep. And loved taking part, too. Thankunts!

55:46 that is some funny shit.

“What a fucking prick………” LMFAO. Classic.

Just how young you think young Rimmer WAS?

Nothing to do with Rimmer – I meant the way that picture was framed. Calm your knickers.

  • Seb’s fanboy love is kinda how I feel about GTA V right now – just gushing with excitement. Oh just in case you wanted to know my PSN is CackThosePants4Life.

Jo’s final thoughts pretty much nail what I think about this series overall in terms of writing. Hmmm he needs to write with someone else……..

    * Just tweeting Doug now. Will work for Benny Hill dvds.

  • It’s gonna be odd next Thursday without new Dwarf and new G&T dwarfcasting. Perhaps a special ‘come down’ cast talking about the merits of butter?

  • I’m putting my hand up and agreeing with everybody else. Your Series X coverage has been incomparable, technical issues notwithstanding. Thoughtful reviews, interviews, audience input – what more could we want from a fan site. I’m glad you’re getting praise from so many of the newer people, too.

This is exciting. One request: thinking long term, once we’ve had a chance for all of this new stuff to sink in, please make some “listen as you watch” DwarfCasts for Series X episodes, interspersed with other episodes as you’ve been doing. I like those.

  • The Series X Commentaries may be a while, usually we leave them for about 6 months to a year before revisiting them, as everything starts to become more concrete in terms of opinion…

  • >usually we leave them for about 6 months to a year before revisiting them,

    That’s about what I figured.

Out of curiosity, how were your “users online” numbers for Series X compared to BTE?

  • >Thoughtful reviews, interviews, audience input – what more could we want from a fan site.

This. I’ve had issues with the show of course, but none whatsoever with how it was handled here. A sincere note of thanks to everyone.

Ditto. I know I’ve already said it but thanks again, Team G&T and well done! I look forward to listening to more – be they for the DVD, the series or commentaries for the Series X eps, or classic eps (would love to hear one for Marooned and Terrorform some day :o)).

  • Marshal Strickland: Remember that word – discipline!

I completely agree with Danny about Fathers and Suns. There’s so much I like about it, and a few things I really adore, that the TT stuff hardly detracts from it at all in terms of my overall enjoyment of the episode.

The discussion about the crew now thinking of RD as their home is interesting. At the recording Rimmer’s last line did make me think of that passage in Backwards. I wonder how Doug feels about the return to Earth he had planned for the end of series VIII now. I hope we get to see that episode in some form at some point, perhaps in a script book with the planned last two episodes of X, unless of course Doug ends up using them for future Dwarf episodes.

    Good Papa Lazarou impression.
