It’s faintly terrifying to think that it’s already been two years since the last Dimension Jump convention, but apparently it has as evidenced by the fact that it’s all happening again this weekend. As we speak Fan Club organisers, attendees and guests alike are hurtling towards the best Dwarfy weekend the world has to offer.

Unfortunately the G&T contingent will be limited to two solitary souls this time round, but I’ve been reliably informed that Ian and Danny will welcome any hellos, drinks and / or hugs if you see the beardy Yorkshire behind the sound desk or the non-beardy Brummie behind the camera. As usual they’ll be doing their best to keep you informed over Twitter if anything big hits over the weekend and of course a DwarfCast will follow a few days later provided everyone involved hasn’t died.

The remaining sad sacks here at G&T will watch from afar but we wish everyone on the Fan Club team the best of luck over the weekend and also hope anyone going along has a great time. You lucky, lucky bastards.

  • Wow that was a brilliant Dimension Jump. Chris, Danny, & Robert were on top form. Mark dexter was amazing, Lucie Phol stole the show, Critchlow raised the roof, the quiz, disco and the ace were all brilliant. Great merch. Games and karaoke party and that kids tv bloke. And wow that surprise bit.

All wrapped up in some nice touches, my favourite is the rejuve showers They had fitted in the hotel. Meaning we get to go back to Friday and do it all a second time provided we sit on our own laps during the Q&A’s

  • Ah no Cappsy? Boooo who is gonna stand next to the game digits people and comment on the game play happening.

  • No, I’ve had to give this a miss for the first time since 2003 (which is especially annoying since I’m on the Fan Club!) because my girlfriend insists on being 8 months pregnant.

    How dare she.

  • Can’t make this year but NEXT YEAR’S DJ is an absolute must (providing the G&T team are all there, as I’ll be going alone).

  • I am having a ball. Thought it would be hard to rival the dimension jump i went to around the series X era. But this is offering the most amazing complimentary times to match those days. The coffee morning meet Robert and some of the Twentica guest stars the highlight So far. Lucie told us she was suffering food poisoning the night she filmed the studio audience shoot for Twentica on top of learning “that line”, which she can still do, got a round of applause and sympathy for having now the longest ever Catchphrase in tv comedy history. She’s a python fan and we chatted about the German episode of that. Got to ask Robert about series XII’s all krytens ep. He had his head photographed 3d printed and the mould made from that and the rest of the cast the old fashioned plaster on face route so he enjoyed getting the better treatment for once but it was too expensive to do that for all the cast for the one episode, he then mimicked craig saying “how did you stick it for 28 years in the rubber head.” Enjoyed playing the game with the game digit guys, who explained the complicated rights situation around the game having to be XI specific, and we have just invented Twentica the musical with Suanne Braun.

  • Not an official announcement of any further episodes after XII. But the positive murmur from Robert in the Q&A that the “30th anniversary year” loomed, and the numbers XIII & XVIII were uttered in such a related fashion. let’s hope so. When asked about episode ideas in the past that havnt come about ever in a Separate question about kryten he explained both comedically and also respectfully the “gay ray” camp asides performed by the cast as a joke, listing how convincing he though each of he main cast were as camp. Equally Kryten with hand puppet style baby, and/or a surly teenage son of kryten, all amusing Q&A reply enactments, thankfully not developed in any serious way. We asked him about his missing sax solo in the coffee lounge from Twentica. He said his wife plays one for real and she played it at home for the kids but it’s really a loud instrument.

    Thirteen and EIGHTEEN?!?

  • If Krysis could work, then so could ‘Kryten’s surly teenage son’! Be a good way to bring back Butler, as an antagonistic Supernanny type.

That ‘gay ray’ thing they keep joking about is basically the Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) episode ‘O Happy Isle’, which Reeves & Mortimer pitched. And that actually worked. So, y’know. Joking or not, there are no bad ideas, only poor executions…

  • After Doug himself wrote series 8 its easy to see how some really silly ideas can make it to screen and be just as silly as they sound.

  • The sensational Rimmer Brothers i think win the best Q & A, I’ve seen at a Dimension Jump,
They make such a good team at both the talks and before at the auction.
Mark is great, sharp and plays up wonderfully while Chris is both his classic self yet slightly
Wonderfully bemused by having a new person to banter with, who is both gushing respectful and
Well timed distain. He gave as good back. When asked about the possibility of John rimmer for example perhap appearing
Mark was stroking Chris Barrie’s tie and cuddling towards in response to such an idea that it might come his way,
As Chris replied “well clearly now there is only one person to play another
Rimmer brother” …. “And thats me Chris barrie” Mark then resorting to “You utter twaaaaat”
Catchphrase for only the second of his sparing use of it. David Cameron deserved the other.

  • Excellent weekend. Wasn’t Mark Dexter brilliant? Totally got into the spirit of things.

Best anecdote from the panels, though, was the cast realising at the end of the studio recording for Give & Take that one of the audience members was on a dialysis machine.

  • A huge thank you to all who played the Red Dwarf game and gave us feedback at DJXIX, it was great to finally meet some of you in person.

It’s amazing just how diverse the Red Dwarf fanbase is, yet strangely familiar. It’s great to see many of you supporting the game and getting behind the updates and changes.

Since showing the game we’ve been busy collecting all the comments along with our own observations, putting them together with a plan to make major improvements. We have some great ideas on how we can take this forward, so thank you again for taking the time to chat with us.

Shame Capps couldn’t be there, but understandable given his wife is expecting. Oddly enough, it was my daughters first Birthday the first day of Dimension Jump, so what happens roughly nine months prior to the event may need some investigation. It was good to see Ian from G&T though, great guy… great name too.
