Rather alarmingly, there are just five days to go until Red Dwarf XII is released on DVD and Bluray. Pre-orders could start arriving as early as this weekend, and it’s been less than a week since the covers were officially unveiled on TOS. These included the intriguing detail that we’d be seeing over 140 minutes of extras on the discs, but we’re not yet sure exactly what they are. Thankfully, the long-held tradition of details being released as a by-product of the UK’s home video classification laws has continued – Red Dwarf XII and its extras are now listed on the BBFC website.
It’s the end. But the moment has been prepared for, with this here discussion thread. More than two and half years after Doug Naylor announced that twelve new episodes had been commissioned, we’ve reached the twelfth. For the last time this year, and possibly ever, at 10:20pm it will be time to frantically refresh UKTV Play until we see the word “Skipper“. Unless you’re in the dimension where it’s already been released, in which case the link is below.
Don’t be sad when it’s all over, because there’s still one more LIVE Instant Reaction DwarfCast to come, and it should be rather a good one. Not only will we have a series-high amount of G&Ters in the same room at the same time, we’ve also got an exciting extra surprise that’s so exciting and surprising that we can’t tell you about it until after you’ve watched the episode – head to the comments if you want to know what it is. Don’t miss all of this and more at 9pm on Friday – as usual, the link will appear on here, on our Twitter feed and our Spreaker page at 8:40pm.
Hello there, Dave viewers. I must admit I’m slightly envious – you’ve got two episodes of Series XII left, and the rest of us have only got one. All that will change at 9pm tonight on Dave, and we’ll all briefly be in the same boat for about forty minutes after the episode airs. As usual, this is the thread for viewers of all paces to register their thoughts on the episode, but the UKTV Play lot should be wary of giving anything away before broadcast.
After the episode airs, do catch up with the Play-paced discussion thread, listen to last Friday’s Live Instant Reaction DwarfCast, and have a good old read of John’s in-depth written review. This cycle will shortly begin to turn one last time, and the Play-paced discussion thread for Skipper will be along as the sweet sound of Jenna Russell floats from our televisions, ahead of the episode’s release at around 10:20pm.
I can’t quite believe it but tomorrow marks the end of Series XII for UKTV Play when it only seems like yesterday that Lister was playing a duet with Hitler. It will also be the first time in almost two years that there will be no new Red Dwarf waiting in the wings for us. This could very well be the end. Don’t fret, though, as for the final time this year we’ve been given a teaser clip for the forthcoming finale Skipper – and it’s a good ‘un.
Prepare to be upgraded. It’s the time of the week where we like to sit around refreshing UKTV Play, get anxious if the episode isn’t there at *exactly* 10:20pm, spend the next few minutes pondering whether it’s worth tweeting about it given that it’ll probably turn up imminently, give in and tweet about it, realise that the episode was released while we were typing, then receive replies for the rest of the night telling us it’s there, as if we’ve *just* tweeted that it isn’t. Anyway, the product of all the above is this link:
Fill your boots in the comments below, but save some space for our LIVE Instant Reaction DwarfCast at 9pm on Friday. Please join us to listen and chat along live; the link will appear on here, on our Twitter feed and our Spreaker page at 8:40pm.
Hello there, Dave viewers. I must apologise – I’ve already used up all my politics/election based metaphors during our Play-paced coverage. The good news is that you’ve got a brand new episode on your way tonight at 9pm on Dave. Do use this post for any thoughts this event inspires, and the same goes for all you UKTV Play viewers who want to make any last-minute points before the next ep – just do be mindful of what you’re giving away prior to broadcast.
After you’ve watched the episode, you can study the results of our various exit polls: the Play-paced discussion thread, last Friday’s Live Instant Reaction DwarfCast, and Cappsy’s in-depth written review. Oh look, I did have one election joke left after all. Meanwhile, M-Corp is due to be released on UKTV Play at around 10:20pm, and our discussion thread for that will be here after Mechocracy has aired on Dave.
I like these little preview clips of the up-coming UKTV Play episode. For one or two glorious minutes I can see what it might be like to watch the episode for the first time without it being a muddy, low resolution, low bitrate mess. Ah, the future.
We’re all pretty familiar with the basic premise of this week’s episode and this clip seems to set that up. There’s some good laughs in there, and this is definitely one of the episodes I’ve been most looking forward to this year. We’ll be kicking off our M-Corp chitter-chatter proper tomorrow, just as soon as Mechocracy has appeared on that fusty, old, linear platform known as ‘television’. Speaking of which my review is due up later today, stretching any goodwill you or my colleagues may still have left towards me to its limits.
Praise be, Timewave has now aired on Dave, which means we can try to heal the pain with a brand new episode, namely The One Where Everyone Gets An Election. Continuing the now finally established pattern, we can expect to see Mechocracy appear on UKTV Play within five minutes or so of 10:20pm. Or, if you’re reading this in the future, it’s already here:
We really hope that the comments below are a lot jollier than they were this time last week, and the same goes for tomorrow’s LIVE Instant Reaction DwarfCast. Do join us and our guests at 9pm on Friday; the link will appear on here, on our Twitter feed and our Spreaker page at 8:40pm.
Hello there, Dave viewers. Sod it, let’s carry on with these threads, because you’re going to have a lot to say when you’ve seen this particular episode. It’s been quite a week, and you’ll have much to catch up on, such as the UKTV Play-paced discussion thread, last Friday’s Live Instant Reaction DwarfCast, and our full in-depth written review. But not until you’ve watched the episode of course; 9pm is the TimeWaveDaveTime.
You’ll have about a forty minute window of being up-to-date after the show, as Mechocracy will be released on UKTV Play at around 10:20pm. The discussion thread for that will be along at the end of TimeWaveDaveTime.
It’s Wednesday, and that can only mean one thing – time for a preview of what is technically next Thursday’s episode of Red Dwarf XII:
I’ve not watched this, but judging from the title and the thumbnail, we’re in for a whole new shade in Red Dwarf’s “alert” system, and a return to the science room set for the first time this series. Our coverage of Mechocracy will commence as soon as Timewave has appeared on Dave.
