An obvious one is Patrick Troughton… had he lived a few years longer, he would have been a great RD guest star.

    Other peoples’ thoughts?

I still think Danielle Ward would be *perfect* for Red Dwarf. She’s a fan of the show, too.

Paul Whitehouse. Not as big a name as others, but I bet he’d be a cracking guest star.

Bill Bailey. Bill Nighy. Bill Shakespeare.

Morray Hunter and John Sparkes to complete the Absolutely appearances.

    Burt Kwok as Chinesey Chesney.

Nick Frost, Ardal O’Hanlon (sp?), Dawn French, Dara O’Brian, Kylie Minogue (yeah I know but she is surprisingly good when she plays parody versions of herself for comedy shows), Sid James, Wil Wheaton, Jim Parsons (would be better if the character were not a Cooper clone), Sean Astin, Brian Blessed, Jo Brand just to nominate a handful of the ones I think could work well within the premise of Dwarf

I think Sid James is unlikely.

That’ll be where the ‘or dead’ thing comes into play, I imagine.

I’m appalled that Paul Darrow never had a guest appearance.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s the king of British sci-fi television

Do we need to be necroposting in so many decade old threads?

One out of three ain’t bad.

Personally I like that this place is less opposed to necroposting than some (why create a new thread when an old one will do, it keeps things tidy), but yeah it could be spaced out a little.

He was in Rob Grant’s The Strangerers, which is fairly close.

Yeah, when it’s a newer member, it seems considerate of them if anything, to see what topics have been discussed rather than creating a swathe of new threads. Not their fault if said topics have been dormant a few years, from before they were on board.

Also, this forum is eighteen years old. There is nothing that hasn’t already been discussed, so we might as well add a new voice to the old topics.

Meanwhile Doomworld barks at you if you even read a post that is older than six months…

Sounds like Nick Frost will be too busy with some HBO thing to ever guest star now…

G&T itself is 23 this year – I strongly suspect it’s older than a small number of its users.

I always thought Bill Bailey would have made a great alternate Holly, or failing that a guest ship’s computer.

I’m glad he wasn’t wasted on Timewave but he could have been the Enconium’s computer

A question for people who were watching Coronation Street in 2009: are there any other actors who were in the soap at that time who might have been a good fit for the Corrie scenes in Back to Earth?

The one I had in mind was John Savident (since his Coronation Street character’s way of speaking was pretty close to a sitcom character already). But apparently he’d already left the series all the way back in 2006.

If he’d been in Red Dwarf he could have completed the Doctor Who/Blake’s 7/Red Dwarf set (the EGOT’s slightly more prestigious cousin).

Sue Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw – an established comedy actor (she was in dinnerladies), and Eileen worked with Lloyd at Street Cars.

I mean, Doug would just complain to her about what they did with all that budget.
