Ah, but it was very enjoyable. Those who didn’t enjoy it are surely the losers in this debate?

    #112497

And Moffat has said on Twitter that he has answers and that we will just have to be patient.

‘The Big Bang’ does make sense…as long as you’re willing to accept that, within the realms of Doctor Who, anything’s possible! The only thing that makes me sigh is the Doctor being able to fly the Pandorica into the exploding Tardis using…what, the vortex manipulator and a few bits of wiring?? :D

Rewatched all the past River episodes…I wish the Steven Moffat who wrote Time of Angels/Flesh & Stone would please come back to us. Yeah I’ll quit ragging on him soon…

Okay I admit I just watched ToA/F&S and SitL/FotD, in that order. The latter makes the revelation that River is Amy and Rory’s daughter seem pretty…unworthy of the promise of those episodes. Though, of course, it’s by no means over.

What I would love is if we never got River’s full story. Most of her earlier adventures (earlier for her…) with the Doctor should remain a mystery. That way we’ve never got the Doctor’s future pinned down. For all we know she’s met several future Doctors.

Not sure, I mean I think the kid viewers wouldn’t like that, would just be frustrating for them. You know how kids are :D

Jump starts the second big bang!?

Sorry, had to be done ;)

Anyway, Matt’s been all kinds of awesome as the Doctor, so here’s hoping he remains in the show for a good few years to come, though I fear he may do a Tennant and flake out on us after just a few series. I hope that isn’t the case though.

So…no spring series next year. Possibilities…specials or a series of 6 in autumn 2012 followed by the Christmas episode…then god knows what for 2013.

Whatever ends up happening, you get the feeling that there’s no way we’ll see a 13 episode series again. Not even split up.

    Roll on Torchwood!!

    #112562

    Nope, just 14. :)

    #112563

It’s been confirmed that the BBC have greenlit a series of 14 episodes for next year.

EDIT: May have heard wrong after reading this:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jun/07/doctor-who-matt-smith-new-episodes

Just a “good chunk” of it airing next year.

Just managed to snag a ticket Ruhr at the last minute for the preview of Let’s Kill Hitler at the BFI on August 15th. That’s made my day, my week and my month. Anyone else manage to get one before they all sold out?

The more I see the title ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’ the more I refuse to believe it’s going to be an episode of Doctor Who, a show I used to love until it was taken over by a giddy 13-year-old boy.

    #112747

OMG performingmonkey bitching about Steven Moffat?! How very unpredictable…

    #112748

I just saw the french short film that Twelve Monkeys is based on at the BFI the other evening! I had no idea that Doctor Who was being previewed there! Curse my stupid, beautiful common sense for that…

BTW performingmonkey, what do you make of Sherlock? Just interested coz I know people who HATE Doctor Who but LOVE Sherlock.

    #112750

Last post, I sort of promise!

But what’s wrong with the notion of a giddy 13 year old writing Doctor Who? I don’t agree, seeing as Moffat clearly knows his way around writing a brilliant script (imo), but using that phrase as an insult… I don’t get it. I mean, at 13 you’re not exactly world-weary, you’ve still got pre-teen sense of wonder and imagination before it’s beaten out of you by the modern world.

If I wanted to insult this series of Doctor Who, I would say something along the lines of “run by a man who can’t tell that convoluted doesn’t mean clever” or something like that. Not that I agree with myself there…

Mostly brilliant! (the Moffat and Gatiss episodes, the middle one not so much)

I think Benedict Cumberbatch’s Holmes and Moffat’s writing snap together, much more successfully than with Smith and Who.

Alastair Reynolds is writing a Doctor Who novel featuring the Third Doctor, Jo Grant and The Master.

Great news as far as I’m concerned, as I loved Revelation Space, Chasm City and his short story collection Zima Blue.

First Neil Gaiman, then Michael Moorcock, then Steven Baxter, now Reynolds… who’s next – Iain M Banks? (Seeing him write a kid-friendly Who book would be quite a sight!)

Just seen the premiere of ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’. Without giving anything away I have to say it’s one of the strongest of the series as far as I’m concerned, and probably the funniest too. Also, even with the change of setting etc it is still very much a two parter with AGMGTW. One for everyone to look forward to.

Well that was a decent Terminator homage. Did very little else for me though. I didn’t like the villain, Thought the Reveal at the start was a tacked on afterthought and the end was a cop out. Great performances again, especially from Arthur Darvill. I’m going to watch it again later, hopefully it’ll click with me.

That episode seemed to have sneaked right up on me! I know there’s be advertisements for a while but I didn’t expect it so soon.

    Spoilers!

Decent episode. I was quite surprised they wrapped up the Melody arc so quickly.

I’d have liked to have known how they got off of that space station where the Doctor left them at the end of the first half of the series. I suppose the fact River turned up in that episode by herself means that she’s got her own transport, probably a time vortex device, or some such thing, but it would have been nice to have seen/heard some reference.

What we found out concerning The Silence was curious too. I assumed it was the species of aliens we saw in episode one, and although that’s right, that’s not all they are.

I liked the numskulls in terminator idea silly though it was. (Partly because it was silly.) I wasn’t so keen on the controlled use of regeneration energy, but it explains River’s ultimate fate, somewhat. And it seems they’re keeping to the limited regenerations rule after all.

I have a feeling that the Melody/River arc being wrapped up is, in fact, designed to lull us into a false sense of security. Felt the same about the Silence at the start of the series, too. I imagien both of these plot threads will come back in a big way in about three or four episodes.

I loved the episode, personally. Entirely not what I was expecting, which is quite a nice surprise.

We got that three months ago – the Doctor told River to get Amy and Rory home before he popped off in the TARDIS.

    I enjoyed it.
    *SPOILERS*

Rory had a great episode, I thought. He’s clearly getting used to TARDIS life, and his “clues?” line to Amy was great. Arthur Darvill’s also very entertaining on Confidential.
As for Melody’s Regeneration, I thought that was great. ‘New’ River, post-change, was hilarious, and a top performance from Alex Kingston. One thing – River poisoned the Doctor the first time she kissed him – had she removed the lipstick when she kissed him the second time? And when did she apply it? Was Mels already wearing it before she regenerated?
When Mels first appeared, I thought the name (Mels/Melody) was just a coincidence, and that Amy had simply named her daughter after her friend. (Another interesting note – Melody was, paradoxically, named after herself, and River took her name after realising that was how she’d become known, also named after ‘herself’). Before the episode, I thought that maybe The Grand Moff may be introducing an unexpected new companion, it certainly didn’t occur that Melody and Mels would be the same person – I certainly wasn’t expecting a regeneration before I watched the episode. But once Mels was shot, it clicked that that was what was going to happen.
I was certainly glad of the regeneration, though, as I really wasn’t keen on Mels!
A good episode, a lot of fun, answering what we need to know, leaving the odd thing hanging, and, again, I don’t think that either the River or The Silence arcs are done with just yet.

I remember that now you mention it. I’d like to have known how though. Another Tardis? A Captain Jack kind of time vortex manipulator? I don’t doubt she can do it, she got there despite not taking Rory’s offer after all.
