October 29, 2008 at 10:10 am #86405 John HoareParticipant Bloody hell. That is… bloody hell. How did anybody approve that? And WHY do they look so strange? On the subject of QI: The marketing of QI into seemingly every media possible – especially the books – reminds me of Spitting Image. Not the content or subject matter, just the way it’s infiltrating into every media through the means of Quite Interesting Limited. Not surprising, given the involvement of John Lloyd in both companies. October 29, 2008 at 10:18 am #86406 Arlene Rimmer BSc SScParticipant >And WHY do they look so strange? Maybe it’s just my eyes or my monitor or something, but they look like they’ve been Photoshopped to hell and back, if that’s what you meant. October 29, 2008 at 12:30 pm #86410 AndrewParticipant > they look like they?ve been Photoshopped to hell and back They’ve obviously been snapped separately, but then the heads, bodies AND hands all seem to belong to different shots. It’s bizarre. Though I’d hate to take anything away from the text at the top, which says ‘QI’ twice. What C designed this thing? October 29, 2008 at 2:21 pm #86412 Danny StephensonKeymaster I’m expecting it to turn up on Photoshop Disasters. “This shit and hopefully temporary artwork was brought to you by the Letter C” October 29, 2008 at 3:02 pm #86413 pfmParticipant Stephen Fry’s facial expression coupled with his hand on Alan Davies’s shoulder suggests something rather…not like QI. A total disaster and yet still good because it’s funny as fuck! Please god don’t let the new Dwarf DVD look anything remotely like this. Speaking of new Dwarf I really want an advert where the voiceover is ‘This April (or whenever it is) Dave *insert new clip of Lister* comes to Dave’ Also, wouldn’t it be great to have some short promos done in character? Maybe Holly as the continuity announcer. Once they get the cast in costume they should try to do as much as possible in the time they’ve got. October 29, 2008 at 3:05 pm #86415 TheLeenParticipant > I?m expecting it to turn up on Photoshop Disasters. Yes. October 29, 2008 at 4:13 pm #86416 Danny StephensonKeymaster Please god don?t let the new Dwarf DVD look anything remotely like this. GNP are involved with that, you’re quite safe. October 29, 2008 at 4:26 pm #86417 PhilParticipant I’m hoping the new DVD looks like this: October 29, 2008 at 4:42 pm #86418 hummingbirdParticipant OMG YES. Please let it look like that. October 29, 2008 at 6:26 pm #86420 Danny StephensonKeymaster That picture offends me greatly October 29, 2008 at 6:35 pm #86421 John HoareParticipant As someone – was it you, Seb? – said a while back, that cover is pretty interesting. Yes, OK, it’s bad… but it’s also a valuable insight into a world where the TV series *doesn’t* exist – and the books *are* the Dwarf universe. It’s an interesting – if unsuccessful – take on the characters. October 29, 2008 at 6:44 pm #86422 PhilParticipant My favorite thing about the book-universe is that Rimmer’s older brother is named Luigi, and Rimmer gets his hand-me-down overalls. October 29, 2008 at 7:39 pm #86423 John HoareParticipant Odd thing about the book cover – Holly is actually got down pretty well. In fact, that blue background I’m sure ISN’T in the books, but *is* in Series 1. Did they use the TV series as reference for Holly, but nobody else? (In fact, is he even described as pixellated in the books?) In fact, I’ve just had a thought. Is all this because they would have had to pay the actors for use of their likeness on the book cover – but the Holly one is so distorted that it didn’t matter for him? October 29, 2008 at 9:09 pm #86424 MnoooahParticipant I just reciently listened to the audiobook and he *is* called pixillated, though personally I think he looks nothing like Norman, more ‘a pixillated Mr. Clean.’ It’s closeish, but I think it’s safe to conclude that the artist didn’t burdon thier imagination either with the tv version or very much of the book. Lister is too clean and has no dreadlocks, Rimmer is too blue collar, ect. I think the lesson that we can all take away to our own production companies is that it’s actually pretty important to vet this stuff before it goes to print. And the QI label? That is the last time they let Alan near the cover art. October 29, 2008 at 9:16 pm #86425 PhilParticipant Yeah, the QI one is some AWFUL photoshopping. I mean, Fry’s nose isn’t even pointing forward! October 29, 2008 at 9:24 pm #86426 Danny StephensonKeymaster Fry?s nose isn?t even pointing forward But Stephen’s nose is already oh I get ya… October 29, 2008 at 9:39 pm #86428 MnoooahParticipant I don’t. The hell? October 29, 2008 at 11:25 pm #86433 RidleyParticipant They?ve obviously been snapped separately, but then the heads, bodies AND hands all seem to belong to different shots. It?s bizarre. Much like the Scrubs DVD sets. October 30, 2008 at 12:44 am #86437 ChrisMParticipant I wonder if the headshot of Fry was taken a few years back. He looks a bit younger to me, but that might just be the expression.
