Since Itunes has the old ,I would assume they would have the new, but when is the question.
It would be nice if GNP commented on it! PBS is suppose to be carrying it but on select stations.
Check with WLIW21, I know mine is not.

It took months for BtE to air in the US in any form, and it wound up on PBS. So far there’s been no murmurings about a US broadcast be it on TV or online, but I’m hoping it end ups on BBC America.

Doug said on Twitter that it would be airing in the US not long after the UK didn’t he?

@thejikz They’ll be broadcast in US at same time. Check out PBS.

Can someone explain how PBS works? The public run the station? They donate money to it for certain shows to air? Is that how it works?

    Is the Pope Catholic?

    Yes. Yes he is.

This has no relevance to this though. I don’t know why I brought it up, really.

PBS stations are funded in various major cities, usually in connection with major corporations, both private and public, and major local colleges or universities. They have fund raisers twice a year to help with local costs. I think that each station is independent, and can choose to air what it wants when it wants, hence the reason why what you may see in New York may not air in Houston. I know Houston never aired BTE, and hasn’t had any RD eps. on in years, yet we get Doctor Who (usually several months behind) and Downton Abbey, among others. It irks me how they will show some things right after they air in Britian, but other things months or even years later. I’m not sure if it has to do with the powers that be or money, but I’m pretty confident that it’s not a cash issue. :/

Or never. To my knowledge neither the (now defunct) LA nor the Orange County station has ever aired Blackadder, for example, but we have had such gems as “No Honestly!” Still, they’re generally the only station that carries any proper world news or educational programming. Sesame Street has always been on PBS.

A quick “Red Dwarf” search on pbs.org turns up nothing. And my local station never responded to my e-mails asking them to pick it up, as I have griped here numerous times. This is somewhat shocking. To depend on viewer support but ignore viewers’ program requests is a very stupid business choice.

Soap Box please! Whats the name of the park in the UK where people stand on box and rant? I think thats a great idea, Here they will arrest you for not having a permit or disturbing the peace.

It has to do with the American upper classes, you don’t see any middle class or lower on the boards of directors, and they make the decisions! They call it Public TV but the public has no say in what they buy and show. Tax dollars used to fund most of it, but since the last Administration took that funding for their Holy War in the Middle East they are constantly begging for donations. Things are hard here money jobs health care are in demand. The wasted money in the Middle East could fund a new RD movie every week.

I first saw RD in the early nineties on WLIW along with Dr Who and Blake 7. It made those cold winter saturdays go quickly.

Actually one might assume that people pledge to PBS because they like the shows being put out. Personally I wouldn’t give money to PBS if I didn’t like what they were broadcasting.

Vote with your wallet, as they say.

My first exposure to Red Dwarf was on PBS back in the nineties, it was the only time I ever considered donating to the station. Just saw the news here:

    http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/08/30/red-dwarf-x-to-air-in-the-us-at-same-time-as-in-the-uk/

Phew! Not that we’d have had to wait long for it to come out on DVD, but the sooner I get to watch em, the sooner the book gets updated. =)

Ah ok not exclusive to LF then, I dare say it will be a good while after before X appears on either anyway.

Dammit.. I should know better than to rely on Bleeding Cool, they always seem to be two months behind the times… Well I’m certainly not going to buy it on iTunes when I’ll be getting the blu-ray a month later.

Netflix US doesn’t have Red Dwarf currently, which is a bit annoying.
