New Holly

I think Alexi Sayle should be the new Holly. He would be great, he’s a gem of a comedian and he has that humourous look too. I was watching some of his record videos on youtube and it made me think.

Can’t see it myself. I’ve seen a few people speculating about this online and Bill Bailey always seems to be a popular choice. I can see that working. Personally, I think if we were to have a new Holly, Will Self might be a good version…

That said though, I’m sure Hattie wouldn’t turn the role down if offered and I’d love to see her in the role again ahead of seeing it re-cast.

All of this is assuming we do see a Holly again of course!

I do think there’s a place for a new Holly, depending on how it’s handled. But it would need to be part of a broader effort to reintegrate the character. Don’t need him/her for sidekick duties alone.

Tony Hawkes would be a great Holly, I would love to see him back in a role on Dwarf giving his past history on the show.

I agree with Andrew that if we did have Holly back we would need to have him/her in a more grounded full role. I would love to see the idea that was thrown around back in like series 5 where the crew would actually cross through into Holly’s mainframe. A Holly central episode would be great, but I think those days are gone, if he/she comes back I think it will be in the vein of series VIII appearance. Maybe the odd wrist watch gag here and there when the crew are off ship would be nice or appearing on Kryten’s chest monitor which I always felt was underused.

I think the idea of a proper, genuine back-up computer could work, but then the question becomes: Why didn’t it kick in after Holly got flooded out?

Nah, I’d rather see Holly back in one form or another. Hattie would be perfect, Norm would be… well, the bugger’s performances post series II weren’t really great, and plus he’s a cantankerous git with all the wit, charm and charisma of an Alsatian dog after a headswap operation.

I can’t really see the benefit in this. They couldn’t find anything substantial for Holly to do, so not much point in introducing a new character that fills the same purpose. And what would the character be? Anything other than an “efficient and smart” would be re-treading old ground.

Or how about a prime time saturday night show on bbc1 to select a new Holly. Starting with 12 or so candidates who then have to read out lines written by Doug and then they get judged by the cast, and each week the public vote one off the show. Call it “How do you solve a problem like Norman”
