Should Holly return as a recurring character?

Probably (definitely) asked before but couldn’t find it to give it a bump in the forums.

I think after so many years Doug might have new material for the character than he/she has had since VII. Maybe Holly might’ve had new material written for in the movie drafts that Doug could borrow from.

I think Holly should be a regular again… i just fear what will happen when Holly becomes a regular again.

I feel series 8 is a good example of what happens when a story doesn’t work with holly but Doug still feels he needs to add as much holly as possible. admittedly Doug said Norman didn’t like giving exposition but still, if he just becomes a stand up comedian again then no thank you.

I know Hattie didn’t get ALOT to do in her run but her presence did add something to the show

I get the feeling he’d just be siphoning off the reference jokes from the other characters about FIFA, the 1970s Leeds United team, BBC child molesters, etc.

Yes, but only if it’s the Hattie Hayridge version. Putting the 4 regulars with Hayridge Holly brought us Series 3, 4 and 5 – the best series ever. Putting the 4 regulars with Lovett Holly brought us Series 8 – the baddest series ever. No contest here.

Also, it’d be great if Hattie got another shake of the coke can, given that she never got the spotlight that the first Holly did.

I thought it was pretty much assumed at this point that Holly would be in Series 13.

Yes, previous comments did seem to suggest that male-Holly would likely be back in full for a series XIII.

I’m in two minds to be honest. Holly is a great character and an important part of the show’s history, but at the same time I think the show moves better in some respects without him/her.

I would be happy to see a return, but I won’t be upset if it doesn’t happen.

I think that as long as Series XIII isn’t even announced, any specific plans for it are very much up in the air.

True, we haven’t even had an official announcement that XIII has been commissioned yet.

Although there is a slight chance that the UKTV Play app will leak the first episode before that.

On paper, I love the idea. The fact that Dave era scripts have always felt one draft (or, erm, several drafts) away from ideal, and sometimes confusingly or just badly paced, does make me worry what adding another character will do though.
