Snap, RunawayTrain and Unrumble! My Guess 1 was essentially random. I’m probably never going to identify Series 1 straight away if the background isn’t extremely grey. 😂

Can’t remember what my first guess was, but then I knew it. Guest characters are usually going to be easier. As long as we can actually see them.

I assume these are random frames G&T get that they decide to smegle up, so there’s more chance of a lingering shot.

It’s a big fuck off set of randomly generated frames, which we then go through to ensure they’re all gettable, but difficult. The opening squares are also random, but we can shuffle them if there’s too much of a clue within.

And Cappsy did broach the option of cropping the widescreen ones so that they’re all the same aspect ratio, but Danny and I told him to fuck off.

22 days, that’s a longer streak than a herd of diuretic camels!

Got today’s in one, I was probably 50% confident – if it wasn’t this episode I was a bit stumped in all honesty!

First guess was somewhat random, then the hair appeared and I thought “ah yes, Cat priest. Wait, maybe not? Maybe it’s the woman uneating the eclair.” Then the hand appeared and I thought “ah yes, Cat priest. You pillock.”

This was my exact thought process too. Backwards was my second guess for exactly that reason. (Gunmen was my first, because of the brown colour scheme.)

Funnily enough, I got my first guess because it was quite grey, and actually thought it was the Military Grey/Ocean Grey scene

I got it in one because it looked grey and dusty but I was thinking of Lister looking for the Cat rather than the Cat Priest’s room.

My best attempt at turn 1 colour decoding this time was “um… maybe it’s Planet Rimmer?”. Happy to get a 2 for this!

I’m now generally proceeding on the basis that it isn’t worth thinking about Guess 1 too much unless it’s a particularly unique looking pattern of colours or the unobscured square has something distinctive in it. May as well jump in on instinct and keep the momentum going!

Thought it was Pete’s scaly skin at first. The reveal of the letter gave it away though.

Slightly squashed ‘widescreen’ reveal squares mean it’s Dave era, I find that easier to judge than the overall frame shape sometimes.

I guessed asteroids from The Beginning (if that’s even a thing?), or thought maybe some other space rocks, then the second square revealed too much, as is its fashion.

I have really fucking annoyed as second thought was what the answer was, but I got tripped by by the letters thinking they were the end of a name.

Went for ‘Terrorform’ on guess two, as I thought it’s a gravestone and the word is probably Rimmer, even though the colours seemed wrong.

The colours didn’t look right but my first guess was Cured as I remembered the inside of the box Rimmer gets locked in looking sort of mottled like that first square.

Now I’m trying to decide if getting the same score as me despite not recognising the difference between 4:3 and 16:9 is less impressive or more impressive.

I’m wondering, do International Debris and Unrumble play on desktop? Because for me on mobile, BBC frames will always push the last 2 “Guess” fields off screen, but for Dave frames all 6 are visible without needing to scroll down.

I play on mobile, and haven’t noticed an issue like that.

And to be honest, I haven’t sussed this apparently obvious aspect-ratio gimme that people keep mentioning…

    #273547

Yeah, I’m still on desktop as the very long process of updating my Mac so it’ll sync with my iPhone if I update it so the squares actually work is still very much not on my agenda at the moment.

Ah, of course, yes I remember the bug you had now.

And I wouldn’t say it was an issue as such, Unrumble, just a natural consequence of having a longer image. I can still see the image and all 6 guess fields at the same time on BBC days, I just need to scroll down a bit so the “SMEGLE” header is mostly off screen, while on Dave days I don’t need to do that.

Perhaps it’s my screen size that makes the difference, I don’t know.

By the way, is anyone getting the bug where they see yesterday’s guesses pre-filled on a new day? If someone does get this could you let me know with a screenshot and details of what time it happened and what timezone you’re in?

    Me neither.

So that’s colours out, aspect ratio out … that might explain why my scores are abysmal more often than not.

By the way, I don’t suppose anyone struggling with aspect ratios would be helped by a side by side comparison?

(This also demonstrates what I was talking about with more guess fields being visible from the top of the page if it’s a widescreen frame.)

I first thought ‘series 3 blurriness,’ but went for other series anyway until I recognised it. Maybe it is a tell after all?

The opening squares are also random, but we can shuffle them if there’s too much of a clue within.

Another one where the opening square was an enigma and I can’t even see how it metamorphosed to the final image, I like those.

Should’ve known what that chain on Lister’s shoulder was but went for Only the Good, thinking the orange might be the pod. Then Cat’s hat gave it away.

Well I recognised that immediately. It’s funny how little details sit with you.

In terms of aspect ratio, I’d never noticed. Not even really picked up on it when people started talking about it here. But following Flap Jacks screen shots I took a look myself and Jesus it ought to be so obvious. I play on iPad.

Couldn’t get it, the first square looked like it contained some sort of computer equipment so I was trying to work out what episode has a brown interiored ship in it. Even when I got Cat’s hat I messed up the episode. Sigh.

I got today’s in one, mistake thinking that the bit of costume you can see was something else, but fortunately it’s a costume that’s in the exact same scene.

Huh.  Not sure what I was thinking on the second guess but it wasn’t that scene!  I’ll take it, though.

I understand the aspect ratio thing, it just isn’t even considered by my brain when confronted with the squares.  Even now, when I’d just been reading about it, went to do the Smegle and completely forgot, the concept just vanished.  It’s as if I see the first revealed square, automatically focus in on details (as if that helps – doesn’t) and that’s it, no wider considerations cross my mind whatsoever.  With the colours, I only really consider the lighting/feel visible in revealed squares, and the colours on the covering squares only rarely if there’s one very obvious odd one out.

[Except Samsara, when I thought ‘it’s so dark, how can we possibly see anything?!’ which rather gave it away.]

I recognised it as that scene early, but didn’t know what the hell the ‘lamp’ thing was after it was revealed. Checking the Smegadrive, it’s Lister’s plate.

immediately recognised the series, thought it was from Beyong a Joke though. Lots of series vii is quite dark really when you think about it. Hard to tell just from a bit of mask though. Saw it was the fire scene with the second reveal,  softly just from Kryten’s facial expression.
