Maybe ‘Out of The Red’ would be the way to go forward for Doug? It would solve the problem of Robert being too old to be encased in rubber any longer. https://deadline.com/2026/08/charlie-hunnam-sons-of-anarchy-reunion-legends-series-fx-1237045492/ Creator Topic Viewing 15 replies - 1 through 15 (of 15 total) Author Replies August 27, 2026 at 9:39 pm #326710 MoonlightParticipant If there’s no money for Red Dwarf I can’t see there being money for Out of the Red. August 27, 2026 at 9:42 pm #326711 DaveParticipant Well, based on what we know about Out Of The Red, it would be a lot cheaper to produce. I just don’t know if anyone would want it. August 27, 2026 at 10:22 pm #326712 Professor FlibbleParticipant I’ve never been sure what Doug’s fascination is with doing more meta Red Dwarf stuff. Wasn’t Back to Earth enough? August 27, 2026 at 10:53 pm #326714 Dax101Participant I just assume meta comedy is easy. Just have the actors reference the show and outtakes, poke fun at the actors’ personality traits and behind-the-scenes stories. The fans will love all those references they know right? Do we really need to immediately jump into accusing Doug of writing lazy comedy in a script none of us have seen even a letter of? August 28, 2026 at 8:51 am #326726 International DebrisParticipant Yeah because it’s a shit idea that we need to discourage at all costs August 28, 2026 at 9:37 am #326729 Flap JackParticipant There’s nothing wrong with idea as far as I’m concerned – I loved The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, which is a similar deal. It would just be disappointing to get it instead of a proper new episode. August 28, 2026 at 10:58 am #326733 PodeyParticipant The characters meeting Craig lead to some of the best bits of BTE so I wouldn’t be averse to seeing what Doug would do with the idea. August 28, 2026 at 1:42 pm #326748 Turk ThrustParticipant Does anyone remember about 25 years ago when there was some “leaked” footage of the four main actors doing a table read together. It was captioned with something like, “What were they doing there?” Grant Naylor Productions stated that they had nothing to do with and it turned out that Robert had written a project that he wanted them all to star in. They never got the funding. It’s impossible to know how good something like ‘Out of the Red’ might have been, but I can understand if TV weren’t that interested. It’s something that might not have appealed to some Dwarf fans or to casual comedy fans. For fans of RD Series 7 and Wilderness Years Dr. Who spin-,offs only. But it is very funny. August 30, 2026 at 6:04 am #326788 TechnopeasantParticipant I mean, I got the joke too, so… good enough? August 30, 2026 at 10:29 am #326796 Ian SymesKeymaster Same. Flappo knows their audience. August 30, 2026 at 10:57 am #326797 WarbodogParticipant August 30, 2026 at 6:56 pm #326818 TechnopeasantParticipant And I’ve never actually seen The Airzone Solution, just the Josh Snares video on BBV.
