I randomly decided to have a poke around the Red Dwarf area of the Dave website today (as one does), and I’m sad to report that it’s not at its best.

I mean it’s mostly OK, but tragically the “Series Guide” is missing/broken.

The individual guides are still there (I found direct links using the wayback machine), but the page that allows you to navigate to them isn’t. Although it seems like they didn’t write guides for XII or TPL. I understand them not bothering to keep it updated considering TOS already has series guides that are more comprehensive, but they really should have just removed the menu item for it if they wanted to hide it, right?

Another weird thing is that on the “Cast” page, they have entries for every actor who was a regular for 2 or more series… and Clare Grogan, who only appeared in 4 episodes total. This is outrageous implicit Mac McDonald erasure. (And maybe even Tony Hawks, Graham McTavish and Jake Wood erasure.)

On a tangentially related but much more upsetting note, Geek Chase is broken. :-(

(Unless the format is way more meta than I was expecting.)

Polymorph Game doesn’t work either due to Flash Player being retired, so that’s none of the ‘Games’ on TOS that work. Disappointing.

    “datasource [RedDwarf-LIVE] doesn’t exist”

As a web developer, this runs my blood cold.

Everything is deliberate. Error messages and unfinished sites are all part of the game.

OK, I decided to ignore this bit of the ‘Help’ page and send them an email. If they come back with “It’s part of the game, you gimboid. You’ve got to hack into the server and fix the code from the backend! It’s a blatant clue!” etc., then boy will my face be red.

Have you tried saying “compute” every time you do something? I hear that’s what all the cool kids are doing

Ah, good idea Jenuall. I’ve just been saying “go go gadget” before I perform any task, but that might not be compatible with the older parts of the Red Dwarf website.

That’s odd. Who was talking about the Geek Chase/Androids game recently? Because I followed the link on the site then, and it was working. That was only in the past couple of weeks. In fact, I’ve still got the tab open on my laptop, I’ll check it later.

Oh, alright. I didn’t actually look at it, just opened it in a new tab. If it’s not broken after all, then forget it.

It was brought up on a recent Wafflemen Special DwarfCast as being the best Red Dwarf game, that’s probably what you’re remembering.

Well I had a little peek at the official walkthrough, and there wasn’t an early step which said “click on the link to get to the Androids site, then stare dumbfoundedly at the wall of incomprehensible error output that features nothing to note down or interact with for 2 hours.” so I’m feeling… pretty confident.

No, no. Looked at that tab I had opened – it was the DivaDroid site. And the link from there to the Androids site is that there bollocksed thing above.

    Ah, OK, I get you.

Honestly it might have been better if DivaDroid went down. That would be a lot harder to ignore.

Update: Geek Chase is fixed! I got an email half an hour ago saying that they were looking into it, and just 22 minutes later another one arrived telling me the issue was resolved. Impressive speed.

Thank you all for being with me through this stressful time.

So all’s well that ends well.
    Isn’t that nice?

You can download the .swf file and play it locally.

Oh, I wasn’t aware of that possibility, GlenTokyo, thanks!

Wow, OK, so Polymorph Game is unplayably difficult huh.
