I’ve seen it twice since it came out Stateside – once in a pre-release showing at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, and again this weekend at an AMC. Utterly brilliant film, definitely Tim Burton’s best flick of the past decade or so. Wonderfully dark in tone, beautifully shot, well-paced, and while it left out a few of the songs from the stage musical you can completely understand why. So… seen it yet? I have to wait :( (Unless it’s on in Malta, then I’d watch it next week!) January 1, 2008 at 10:15 am #118914 Tanya JonesParticipant 25 Jan for us. Odd that Malta gets it before the UK! I can’t wait… January 1, 2008 at 1:42 pm #118916 PhilParticipant I was supposed to go but we ended up seeing Juno instead. I’m wary of saying it was a good decision because that implies that Sweeney Todd would have been a bad one, but Juno was a pretty great film, I have to admit. January 1, 2008 at 2:24 pm #118917 Danny StephensonKeymaster Why does Malta get it first? That’s just weird. January 1, 2008 at 2:25 pm #118918 TheLeenParticipant I didn’t say that Malta gets it first. I said I can’t see it till February, UNLESS it’s on in Malta, then I WOULD watch it next week. January 1, 2008 at 4:52 pm #118921 Tanya JonesParticipant Oh. I didn’t read that properly, sorry! January 1, 2008 at 4:54 pm #118922 TheLeenParticipant I wish it were true though :) January 1, 2008 at 7:44 pm #118925 Tarka DalParticipant I’m intending to see it at the end of the month. The opening credit sequence is online at: Sweeney Todd Opening Credits You pretty much know what you are going to get with a Burton movie (Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter for starters), but with the usual Burton tricks on top of a musical it’s definitely between this and ‘Cloverfield’ as to the first movie I see this year. I wanted to see that last night, but I was outvoted so we went to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets instead. I will withhold my opinion for the moment, as I am typing this post from work and as I work for the company who made the film, it’s probably best I keep that particular opinion to myself. January 2, 2008 at 10:12 pm #118955 Jonathan CappsKeymaster Needless to say, you loved it. January 2, 2008 at 10:47 pm #118958 PhilParticipant I don’t know what your tastes are, as far as film is concerned, Ben, but if you find yourself enjoying the works of Wes Anderson, or films like I Heart Huckabees and Little Miss Sunshine, then Juno will probably appeal to you as well. If, less likely, you’re more excited about big explosions and aliens exploding and naked ladies also exploding, you’re in for some disappointment. I personally liked Juno a lot. I kept expecting it to veer into cliche, but it did an excellent job at carving out its own territory instead. Be Kind Rewind is a second on being the best and then Ku Fung Panda is a third – *giggles to self “Don’t tell Monkey”* January 5, 2008 at 9:22 pm #119021 Ben PaddonParticipant I don?t know what your tastes are, as far as film is concerned, Ben, but if you find yourself enjoying the works of Wes Anderson, or films like I Heart Huckabees and Little Miss Sunshine, then Juno will probably appeal to you as well. I’m not really much of a “boom-bang-a-bang” guy when it comes to films. I’ve not got my head so far up my own arse that I will dismiss them completely, but I’m a real sucker for films with an emotional core. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favourite films of all time. I saw Dan in Real Life twice, although the second time was paid for my work (I had the option of not going, and I chose not to not go because it’s a brilliant film). I’m visiting a friend in Houston, Texas next weekend, so we’re going to see Juno together. I am, of course, giddy as a schoolgirl.
