The Vogons are a fictional alien race from the planet Vogsphere in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams, who are responsible for the destruction of the Earth, in order to facilitate an intergalactic highway construction project. Vogons are slug-like but vaguely humanoid, are bulkier than humans, and have green skin. In the motion picture they are depicted as having greyish white skin. Vogons are described as mindlessly bureaucratic, aggressive, having “as much sex appeal as a road accident” and the writers of “the third worst poetry in the universe”. They are employed as the galactic government’s bureaucrats. Here is what to do if you want to get a lift from a Vogon: forget it. They are one of the most unpleasant races in the Galaxy. Not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, officious and callous. They wouldn’t even lift a finger to save their own grandmothers from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal without orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. The best way to get a drink out of a Vogon is to stick your finger down his throat, and the best way to irritate him is to feed his grandmother to the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. That high definition shot of the most detailed, lovingly created Red Dwarf set in a long time, if not ever, was certainly not released with the fans in mind, just another exercise in mindless bureaucracy. Yesterday’s behind the scenes images might have given long-time fans like myself, who didn’t make it to a live recording, an insight into the atmosphere on set, and a full length peek at the costumes, but yes, let’s face it, other than that, as this thread set out to suggest, they were crap. Of course. Seriously, Dave needs to put a lot more effort into their 2 month long, weekly teaser campaign promoting the six new episodes of Red Dwarf they have commissioned. Come on fans, lets boycott the promotional campaign altogether. I refuse to watch another trailer, or look at another behind the scenes picture. In fact, let’s not watch the episodes at all. That’ll show Dave. Then on the next series, we might get some proper teasers. I’m off to email Dave and tell them what I think of them.
