How about instead of paying bands to split up, you get paid not to listen to them? That seems less cynical and miserable.

I must admit, I don’t fully understand the Weezer hate. I personally like quite a bit of their stuff and can certainly think of hundreds of artists more deserving of the hate campaign they seem to have. (seem to have according to that article anyway)

“Buddy Holly” is cracking. I used to like “Say It Ain’t So” as well until it kept popping up in random setlists over and over in Rock Band.

Speaking as a huge Weezer fan, someone who used to run the UK’s biggest fansite for them (back in the days when they were good)… I’d HAPPILY chip in to stop them making any more records, and for Rivers simply to spend his time releasing the hundreds of (largely brilliant) old demos he’s got kicking around. The two “Alone” albums so far have been far, far more worthwhile than anything new they’ve put out since about 2002.

They haven’t made a consistently strong album since Green, and not a truly great one since the first two. There are flashes of brilliance on almost everything that’s followed – Red Album still has “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”, which is inexplicably wonderful – but the ratio is dropping album by album, to the extent that basically the only worthwhile thing on Hurley is “Unspoken”. The longer they go on, they really are damaging the awesome rep they once had, what with having created two of the absolute best rock albums of all time back in the ’90s.

I can never get in the groove of their albums, but they produce great tracks. ‘If You’re Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)’ was one of the best tracks of last year, but I just can’t take Raditude as a whole to heart. Same with the Blue Album (Heresy!…)
