Will it carry on without that character or would a new one replace it ala Series 7? Discuss. July 11, 2018 at 9:22 pm #234476 bloodtellerParticipant i think the show would end. no point carrying on without all four of them there July 11, 2018 at 9:37 pm #234477 JamesTCParticipant I hope they try to do it like Series VII. Have the dead cast member appear in just half the episodes to ease the transition. July 11, 2018 at 10:02 pm #234479 MoonlightParticipant I thought Chris Barrie was already dead. July 11, 2018 at 10:05 pm #234480 MoonlightParticipant SMOKE ME A LISTER Series XVI begin with Rimmer explaining that Lister went off to become Ace Lister – offscreen. He is replaced with a parallel universe Yvonne McGruder, who acts permanently concussed and wears glasses upside down. Rimmer constantly tries to trick her into sex, with Kryten readying the chloroform in case she refuses. July 11, 2018 at 10:08 pm #234481 tombowParticipant they would do a very serious episode without any laughter, like 8 Simple Rules did when John Ritter died. Hold on, that was BTE July 11, 2018 at 10:27 pm #234483 DaveParticipant They could just write around it, keep using footage from old episodes featuring the dead actor, and make their lines fit. They could keep the show going for years like that. July 11, 2018 at 10:37 pm #234484 WarbodogParticipant Hopefully their death would be recorded so you could include the footage in a sensitive tribute video and share it with us. July 11, 2018 at 10:37 pm #234485 Taiwan TonyParticipant What about when Grandad died in Only Fools and Horses. They brought in Uncle Albert and started a whole new era of comedic delight. Perhaps Buster Merryfield could play the dead actor’s relative. “Ala” Only Fools and Horses. During the war, he’d say! July 11, 2018 at 10:41 pm #234486 Taiwan TonyParticipant Would people prefer if a member of the cast died, or if Doug Naylor died and the writing was taken on by his son? “Ala” The Green Green Grass. Or, say his son died at the same time in e.g. a double suicide, who would the best writer to continue it? July 11, 2018 at 10:45 pm #234487 DaveParticipant What will happen if one of the characters dies unexpectedly? Will the actor just be told not to turn up for work next week? July 11, 2018 at 11:03 pm #234488 bloodtellerParticipant maybe they’ll do it like Bruce Lee’s Game Of Death and use footage of the actor’s actual funeral in it, claiming the character is “faking his death” and then have them wander around in face-obscuring disguises for the rest of the runtime so that the audience can’t tell it’s just a bad stunt double July 12, 2018 at 12:01 am #234491 GlenTokyoParticipant What would happen if I died? Would Red Dwarf continue without me being around to watch? More seriously, I’d hope the show would have ended long before any of the cast should be carking it from (hopefully) very old age and they all have a nice retirement. July 12, 2018 at 12:19 am #234492 flanl3Participant “Ala” A la, even. July 12, 2018 at 8:26 am #234499 clemParticipant The obvious solution would be for Doug’s wife’s chiropractor to take over the role, obscuring the lower half of his face with a cape at all times. July 12, 2018 at 10:03 am #234502 Plastic PercyParticipant Most likely there’d be a funeral, everyone would have a cup of tea and a chat and then go home. July 12, 2018 at 12:18 pm #234504 WarbodogParticipant Too-soon disrespectful headlines could include ‘You’re Dead Dave,’ ‘I’m Dead Dave,’ ‘He’s Deader Than Tank Tops’ etc. I’ll find out about the sad event from Jawscvmcdia. July 12, 2018 at 2:45 pm #234506 bloodtellerParticipant the cast can’t die as they have mastered the art of kicking the Grim Reaper in the bollocks and then running off July 12, 2018 at 6:47 pm #234513 Paul MullerParticipant I nominate this thread for Hall of Shame status July 12, 2018 at 7:36 pm #234514 Taiwan TonyParticipant A la, even.<\blockquote> See: original post. See: quotation marks. See: smack on head. July 12, 2018 at 7:37 pm #234515 Taiwan TonyParticipant */, obvs July 13, 2018 at 12:10 am #234524 Flap JackParticipant I will be very sad. July 13, 2018 at 1:39 am #234525 MoonlightParticipant The show switches to radio with Chris doing the missing voice(s). Or if we’re really unlucky, Craig has to play everyone. July 13, 2018 at 1:57 am #234526 flanl3Participant I nominate this thread for Hall of Shame status I believe that’s called the Hall of Fame. July 13, 2018 at 2:32 am #234527 bloodtellerParticipant actually it’s the Hall Of Duane July 13, 2018 at 6:29 am #234528 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I’d prefer chicken. July 13, 2018 at 8:40 am #234530 UnrumbleParticipant It’s party time for all the little worms July 13, 2018 at 9:11 am #234531 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Time travel back to the year 2000 and kidnap the younger version of the dead cast member and bring them to the present. Then, after 9 years of filming new Red Dwarf return them to 2009 just in time for BTE. July 13, 2018 at 9:55 am #234532 WarbodogParticipant Good idea, put those Fruitlessly wasted ten years to use. July 13, 2018 at 1:46 pm #234535 bloodtellerParticipant What will happen if one of the cast dyes? July 13, 2018 at 4:46 pm #234540 HamishParticipant They’d be dead, sir! But there may be… July 13, 2018 at 4:47 pm #234541 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant a new series, is that what you were going to say, sp speak Hamish … how can we continue the show? July 13, 2018 at 5:08 pm #234542 HamishParticipant They were no match; time killed them, and destroyed everyone else around the same age, including the fanbase, which meant there was no fanbase to offend in the future, by retconning the past, so Dave commissioned a new series of Red Dwarf with a different cast, in order that Grant Naylor could generate more money in the present. July 13, 2018 at 7:29 pm #234544 Ben SaundersParticipant What will happen if one of my cats dies? July 13, 2018 at 7:33 pm #234545 DaveParticipant They were no match; time killed them, and destroyed everyone else around the same age, including the fanbase, which meant there was no fanbase to offend in the future, by retconning the past, so Dave commissioned a new series of Red Dwarf with a different cast, in order that Grant Naylor could generate more money in the present. Garbled, confusing, and quite frankly duller than a joke about dentists standing next to X-Ray machines. July 17, 2018 at 8:18 am #234600 MoonlightParticipant Fruitlessly wasted ten years Yes, because obviously we’d be so much better off with a Series IX made hot off the tail of Series VIII without any involvement from Doug. Because that’s what we would have got if the TV series continued, and it would have been garbage. August 3, 2018 at 10:07 pm #235508 DaveParticipant What will happen if none of the cast dies? August 4, 2018 at 1:51 am #235520 Ben SaundersParticipant Ever? August 4, 2018 at 10:19 am #235529 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant What will happen if none of the cast dies? “I’m you aged 171 Dave” Doug is playing the long game August 15, 2018 at 9:16 pm #236123 Shoes Have SolesBlocked Well they would probably have a pot of tea, bit of a chat and go home I suppose.
