October 20, 2017 at 8:59 pm #223181 Stephen AbootmanParticipant I could try NME but I think they’ve got bigger fish to fry. Actually, these days they probably haven’t. October 21, 2017 at 12:23 am #223183 flanl3Participant I can’t wait for the Timewave ones so that I know which sites have opinions worth listening to. October 21, 2017 at 3:52 am #223186 Ben SaundersParticipant It’s much more interesting to read/listen to people you don’t agree with, though. It can either make you appreciate things you never did, see things from a different perspective, or want to strangle the person having such an egregious opinion. October 21, 2017 at 4:44 am #223187 GlenTokyoParticipant Timewave is irreparably damaged by unnecessarily offensive “jokes”. Sure it looks nice in places, Rimmer has a few good bits but you know what, Animal Hospital was a good TV show, and Jim’ll Fix It has a really good theme tune, but Animal Hospital isn’t repeated, and any ‘Top Retro TV Tunes’ rundown that actually wants to see the light of day will omit it. Truly bad, offensive writing is a new red sock in the white wash, whether you’ve got six pairs or one straggler, your clothes are fucked. *Yewtree reference not sponsored by Doug Naylor I’m strongly of the opinion that Timewave is empirically awful so it’ll be interesting to see how people “in the biz” see it. October 21, 2017 at 5:44 am #223188 flanl3Participant Anybody who liked Timewave is probably just an old man who wants all the kids off his lawn, despite the fact that the kids are all, in fact, on their own lawns. October 21, 2017 at 11:01 am #223190 Ian SymesKeymaster Careful about giving too much away in the forum, chaps – it’s fine so far, but strictly speaking it should be confined to threads with blue banners. October 21, 2017 at 11:40 am #223193 siParticipant I was reading the Radio Times’ preview of Timewave last night. “It would be a fool who has a bad word to say about tonight’s parable on free speech and political correctness.” So there. Fools. October 24, 2017 at 11:28 am #223308 MoonlightParticipant But the actual quality of jokes was far, far below the standard set by these past few series. As early as the Starbug mid-section scene I felt like something was distinctly “off” about the writing. October 26, 2017 at 5:41 pm #223375 NoFroParticipant Yep. It was underwhelming from the off but got so much worse. October 27, 2017 at 8:47 pm #223393 Stephen AbootmanParticipant TIMEWAVE: Flickeringmyth: 4/10 Mymbuzz: 4/5 Screenmayhem: 3.5/5 Thepalaceofwisdom: 6.5/10 Scifibulletin: 7/10 Cultfix: 8/10 33/50 (40.5/60) Average (out of 10): 6.75 The first episode of XI or XII to drop below a 7 average. October 30, 2017 at 5:33 am #223450 MoonlightParticipant Must be homophobia against Ziggy and his campy antics. I can’t imagine any other reason Timewave would earn a lower score. November 10, 2017 at 5:35 pm #224347 Stephen AbootmanParticipant MECHOCRACY: Flickeringmyth: 8/10 Mymbuzz: 4.5/5 Screenmayhem: 5/5 Thepalaceofwisdom: 9/10 Scifibulletin: 9/10 Cultfix: 9/10 44.5/50 (54/60) Average (out of 10): 9.0 M-CORP: Flickeringmyth: 7/10 Mymbuzz: 3.5/5 Screenmayhem: 4/5 Thepalaceofwisdom: 8.5/10 Scifibulletin: 9/10 Cultfix: 9/10 41/50 (48.5/60) Average (out of 10): 8.1 November 10, 2017 at 5:58 pm #224361 Ben SaundersParticipant Sounds about right November 16, 2017 at 10:51 pm #224823 Stephen AbootmanParticipant SKIPPER: Flickeringmyth: 9/10 Mymbuzz: 4/5 (they’ve put 4.5 for long term fans, 3.5 for others so splitting the difference) Screenmayhem: 4.5/5 Thepalaceofwisdom: 10/10 Scifibulletin: 8/10 Cultfix: 10/10 45.5/50 (54/60) Average (out of 10): 9.0 The XI & XII Leaderboard: 1) Skipper: 9.0 2) Mechocracy: 9.0 3) Give and Take: 8.58 4) M-Corp: 8.1 5) Siliconia: 8.0 6) Officer Rimmer: 8.0 7) Can of Worms 7.83 8) Krysis: 7.83 9) Twentica: 7.67 10) Cured: 7.5 11) Samsara: 7.25 12) Timewave: 6.75 November 16, 2017 at 11:56 pm #224824 International DebrisParticipant Well the top 6 there would be my ‘one series’ version of XI & XII (hard as it would be to lose Krysis), so I can’t argue with that really.
