December 8, 2025 at 9:29 am #314525 WarbodogParticipant either because they couldn’t / wouldn’t pay to licence the actual show they were claiming to be from Thinking about it, my Turtles figures were also a hybrid of the (grimacing, pupilless) Mirage Comics style and the familiar cartoon, my Batman figures were a mix of dark movie Batman + vehicles with generic colourful comic villains, and my Real Ghostbusters figures were some version with different coloured outfits than the cartoon. Nothing was ever exactly right. December 8, 2025 at 2:26 pm #314538 PodeyParticipant Fun fact, that Ghostbusters range was rereleased a few years ago. Same packaging and everything. Or at least I think it was… possible I just had a relatively disappointing time slip in ‘Forbidden Planet’. I started obsessively watching it as a toddler and it sort of dominated my childhood. When I first got a broadband internet connection my first forum experiences were Simpsons based. I’m very nostalgic for the loosely themed episode VHS tapes we had over here: I’m not going to argue against the masses, Seasons 1-8 and most of 9 are the classic and the only Simpsons worth bothering with. I do have a complicated relationship with the Scully Era (some of 9 through 12) – even as a kid I realised that it wasn’t the same as before and there were some episodes that made me think “well what was the point in that?” whenever I reached the end. But also I think there are some hidden gems in there that just make me stupid laugh no matter how dumb they are. I was so desperate to cling onto this show that I stuck out throughout the rest of the teen seasons under Al Jean, even though at this point I started to find the show very boring and tedious, like a bad soap opera. I remember the quality picking up a little when the show switched to HD, but I dropped off over a decade ago and I don’t think I can bring myself to watching anything new they pump out anymore. I do recommend the RealJims Youtube channel though for both interesting retrospectives and more neutral-positive coverage of the newer stuff. I have a huge soft spot for the art style during the Klasky Csupo era, for me that’s the peak Simpsons look. Though I also like the charm of the earlier Film Roman stuff where the characters all had very round eyes. If we’re talking about Simpsons tie-in games, I have always loved the Arcade Game. But also I quote Virtual Springfield on the regular (I don’t think many people remember this one), and spent so many hours in The Simpsons Cartoon Studio as a kid. I still like to come back to The Simpsons Hit & Run every once in a while. Blimey, seeing those again was a proper madeleine moment. The tie snapped off my ‘Fright Features’ Egon. And I never got the Ray one, for some reason. December 9, 2025 at 2:02 pm #314602 cwickhamParticipant I do have a complicated relationship with the Scully Era Fun Fact: “Homer Badman” was certified by the BBFC as a 12, but FOX successfully leaned on them to release it as a PG as “Dark Secrets” was the first VHS in the range and they were worried it would impact sales. December 9, 2025 at 2:31 pm #314604 WarbodogParticipant That video series started in 1997 after the BBC started showing the series too, so were the limited VHS releases earlier in the decade something to do with Sky’s exclusive TV rights? The most recent episode released on video before those was from the start of season 3. December 9, 2025 at 2:50 pm #314605 RunawayTrainParticipant Why is Smithers’ hair brown?! It’s supposed to be grey, no? December 9, 2025 at 3:07 pm #314607 DaveParticipant Why is Smithers’ hair brown?! It’s supposed to be grey, no? If you think that’s bad then wait until you watch season one. December 9, 2025 at 4:10 pm #314608 Flap JackParticipant Apu too. In the show his hair is grey but in merchandise, comics etc. it’s always black. December 9, 2025 at 5:38 pm #314612 MANI506Participant I’ve folded the VHS and DVD compilations into my full run and watching the commentaries up to season 17. I expect once I get past the movie I’ll sail through as there’ll be no double/triple/quadruple (in the case of Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire) dipping. The Springfield Files made me laugh so hard. Got to be one of the funniest episodes (the alien line up). Just two more season 9 episodes then on to season 10. December 9, 2025 at 6:42 pm #314613 DaveParticipant The Springfield Files made me laugh so hard. Got to be one of the funniest episodes I always love the Shamu gags. December 9, 2025 at 11:12 pm #314620 UnrumbleParticipant I cannot play the piano, but I did teach myself one-handed the end of the Simpsons theme, and the Gracie Films sting. Drove my mum mad. December 10, 2025 at 5:16 am #314625 TechnopeasantParticipant But has anyone tried that new Futurama mod for Hit & Run? December 10, 2025 at 6:11 am #314627 MoonlightParticipant I tried it briefly but I haven’t sat down to properly play it. It’s very impressive.
