My first thought was “How could they tell?” My second was “Bit much to get out of doing the O2 gig.”

Yes he was a talented performer. Yes his songs made a great impact on the field of popular music. Yes he was a very very mixed up individual.

Doesn’t have to have been the last possible Rimmer, the one that became Ace. Back to Reality was the last episode where they had Red Dwarf and Holly, so the Rimmer in BtE could be a copy from after that episode, activated after they got the ship back. That way he’d have the memories of the Despair Squid and Holly might have had plans of a hard light bee.

Dave would have to be at least considering the option, can you imagine what the advertising space in between new Red Dwarf episodes could sell for, given the viewing figures of BtE? Just hope the cast are up for it. I imagine we’d need a Holly back if there was another special or series, can’t see it being Norm though.

    >Talkie Toaster> Er. I wasn?t that impressed with the special effects. Also the plot was not deep.

    >I call shenanigans.

No, seriously, that’s what it said. No shenanigans from me, honest guv. Methinks the programmers might have had a bit of bias in some particular responses though.

you> Yes. Did you see the new Red Dwarf?
Talkie Toaster> Er. I wasn’t that impressed with the special effects. Also the plot was not deep.
you> Would a new series be a good idea?
Talkie Toaster> No it would not.
you> Wouldn’t you like to see more Red Dwarf?
Talkie Toaster> No thanks, I don’t think I’d like to do that.
you> Not even the bits with you in?
Talkie Toaster> If not that, what?
you> What if you were a new character?
Talkie Toaster> I might try it sometime.
you> Maybe you could present it on Dave
Talkie Toaster> I could but let’s get back to that later.
you> So, what are you doing tonight then?
Talkie Toaster> I am always chatting with people on the Internet.

Dammit, this is more entertaining than daytime TV any day. Definitely think robotic space slugs should feature in a future RD episode. Some of the responses have been quite spookily appropriate, esp. the Girls Aloud one. And the one about Symes’ mother, it was a sweeping generalisation, I haven’t had her.

Anyone seen the remastered Classic ST? Came out on HD first, poor thing, but regular DVD is in the shops. Mike and I got to see the first one “The Menagerie/Cage” in the Shaftesbury Ave. Odeon.

Holy Zarquon it was good! The cleanup of the old visuals and soundtrack was a beautiful job, but the new FX work was stunning, made with so much respect to the original but doing what I’m sure the original FX guys would have loved to have been able to do. In the old version the Enterprise sorta just moves from left to right, or the occasional dwindle into distance. In the new one it soars! We got a preview of the upcoming stuff, including the “Doomsday Machine” episode and instead of the usual static shot with the phaser optical effect the Enterprise comes barrel-rolling out of space, swooping low over the Doom machine, guns blazing. Great stuff.

I use alcohol to unwind. My Significant Other has used tranqs (Lorazepam) to calm down from anxiety attacks (fortunately very infrequent now). I “self-medicate” with alcohol, as one doctor has described it to aforementioned SO, and saw nothing wrong with it in moderation. It’s been pretty stressy in the past year, booze did help. I am quite capable of putting a bottle of wine away by myself. In fact if a bottle of wine is open, it tends to get drunk. Said SO can’t drink now due to even small amounts of alcohol waking her up in the night feeling miserable, so I don’t drink wine at home now as she feels left out and has been known to persuade herself to have “just one”. I can do that, let it go, though I do feel the urge to have the stuff I sublimate it with a glass or red or white grape juice in a wine glass, that helps a lot actually, you can fool yourself.

I will drink beer at home, the SO hates the stuff so feels no urge to drink it, but no more than two bottles. I’ll drink more in a pub, but now tend to space the beer with pints of coke or orange juice/lemonade. I’ll have a bottle of wine in a restaurant, but rarely more than half a bottle. Well, moderately rarely. Well sometimes. Look it’s more a guideline than a rule.

Got the books. I always found making up new characters more fun. Hell, that’s how my own fanfic “Blackbird” got started, I used the RPG to help generate the characters, ship and basic plot, then started to flesh out that basic skeleton.

I’d be interested in seeing the new stats. Why not approach Deep 7, see if they’ll put it on their site as a PDF or something.

Well, both my fiancee and I are big Red Dwarf fans, we both collect anime and we met via a Terry Pratchett Discworld group. Currently I’m introducing her to Firefly, which she likes. Oddly she’s a huge fan of Blake’s 7 despite not being born until 3 years after it finished. And she’s a Prisoner fan. Not so much a Star Trek fan, she thinks it’s cheesy, have yet to introduce her to the new Galactica.

4 x 20 is cheaper, so it’s probably that. I am beginning to have little hope that it’s going to be anything other than the four basic cast members seated in a cheap studio set being interviewed about how they managed to get back to Earth, padded out with clips. Please let me be wrong.

Don’t forget the squirrels in the ship’s botanical gardens as well, or the sparrows/canaries kept by that guy in the prison block. Presumably all wiped out by the radiation as well as the crew. You could always go down the Metamorphosis Alpha RPG route if you want mutants however, one guy has done a RD RPG crossover- http://www.geocities.com/jamesms4/RDMARules.htm

MA acts as a good supplement to the RD RPG actually; lost colony ship, crew in suspended animation, an accident, a long time passing, mutants animals and rogue mechanoids setting up civilisations in the huge interior. You can drop the humans out entirely to remain true to the original premise (I think the Amazing Engine edition is better than the current Mudpuppy/Fast Foward 4th edition).

    Oops, my geek is showing…

I have a range of new animal species in my Red Dwarf spinoff, “Blackbird”; Bunni, an amazonian warrior rabbit princess (of the Dobunni tribe) and a Del Boy/Rodney rat couple (with a suspiciously Robin Reliant-like spaceship) called Flash Harry and Squeaker. The spinoff of the spinoff, “Tradewind”, has an evolved canary called Tweety.

How did the ship break the light barrier?

    ‘Cos it was funny.

    Educational Background:

    International Relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

    Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

    vs.

    John McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank: 894 of 899

    Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
    Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in Journalism

May not mean much to some, but I know how I’d vote. In any case Palin killed off any chance of a Republican win once the redneck “one of us” glow wore off and people realised that if McCain croaked this woman would have her finger on the actual button. To paraphrase-

“Who would permit this woman, this joke of a woman, this woman who

I recall seeing the original. Very scary, very atmospheric, even though I knew it was a drama-docu. There were reports of the BBC switchboard jamming up with people screaming “For God’s sake stop this madness!”. Despite the fact that the credits ran after Parkie was possessed with a credit for both the visual effects AND the guy who played Pipes. The announcer beforehand said it was all made up, the Radio Times said it was made up and you still had people wetting themselves. A few children were supposed to have suffered Post Traumatic Stress disorder because of it, even a suicide was reported. It was pitched perfectly for the times though, got the DVD and watching that it wasn’t the same.

I almost wrote in to complain that Sarah Greene had NOT in fact been dragged into a cellar to be messily devoured. I had such hopes.

Bumped into Mike in our local Malaysian on the way home yesterday evening. He’s knackered, but had a good time. The ceremony was apparently “…just totally mad!”. Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) was host. He made all the effects people stand up front and told the audience that this was probably the only time they’d see any of them wearing anything other than jeans and t-shirts. Which was mostly true.

In the hotel bar on one evening he spotted Pierce Brosnan. The next evening, Desmond Tutu. Maybe he’s the new Bond…

Western animation just isn’t of the quality you’d need, unless you go high end budget like Dreamworks/Disney. “Red Dwarf- The New Disney Classic”. Heh. Cat could be the new disney princess.

Nick Park could give it a go I suppose. Chop Socky Chooks doesn’t appear to be wowing the crowds, maybe RD would do better.

Could do anime, bishy Cat and all. Wouldn’t look right though, anime and dwarf have their own visual styles and they would be at odds.

Now Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl/Gorillaz) might be able to do it. His style would work very well.
