Series I is a lot more… boring than I remember it being when I was young, Meltdown and Holoship are the two episodes that stand out as being truly incredible. Series VI is flawed but I love it. Tikka To Tide is one of the best episodes of Red Dwarf ever, fuck you. I’m interested to see if I hate VII/VIII/BtE on rewatch as much as the people on here seem to. Time will tell. November 11, 2017 at 12:51 am in reply to: Hour Long Dwarf? #224375 Ben SaundersParticipant Red Dwarf has a very poor history with two-parters, but longer episodes I think would be lovely. Even just 40 minutes rather than 30 would be fab. Doug replied to that tweet with “a lot of people have been asking that”, so I hope that they use their status as Dave’s most important show to try and strongarm a couple extra minutes for themselves. We might end up having two ad-breaks per episode, though, which would be a very strange thing. It wouldn’t really up the budget of the show much since they typically overshoot and cut down in the edit, don’t they? Or maybe it would. It probably would. Clearly. November 10, 2017 at 12:07 am in reply to: I forgot how utterly terrible the series X Kryten mask was. #224297 Ben SaundersParticipant Yeah, Kryten always looks really sweaty in III. V and VI probably had the best masks, but VII, VIII and BtE are all good, too. Did they just forget how to make Kryten masks after BtE? November 10, 2017 at 12:06 am in reply to: Jawscvmcdia’s Totally Fucking Pointless Questions Thread – Submit Your Own #224296 Ben SaundersParticipant I have seen that image before. Many moons ago. Where the fuck is it from? November 9, 2017 at 6:43 pm in reply to: In Defense of Timewave #224265 Ben SaundersParticipant This just in: I asked my parents what they thought of Timewave, and they said it was alright. I told them I laughed when Johnny Vegas was on the screen but elsewhere thought it was the worst Red Dwarf they’d ever done. I didn’t get much of a reaction. My mum laughed when explaining the concept to my dad to remind him what episode it was, so she clearly thought it was funny. I’m applying for a divorce from my parents as we speak. November 9, 2017 at 6:35 pm in reply to: Revisiting Series I with fresh eyes #224264 Ben SaundersParticipant That’s just Rimmer trying to suck up to the captain and talk down to Lister, respectively November 9, 2017 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Pointless Hollies #224263 Ben SaundersParticipant I may or may not be doing both of those things. I thought every single decision made by the BBC was signed off on by Micheal Grade, like how The Queen signs all the laws. November 9, 2017 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Pointless Hollies #224256 Ben SaundersParticipant So the BBC hate sci-fi and don’t want the kind of audience Red Dwarf attracts, but they’re happy to constantly feature them on various programs all of the time November 8, 2017 at 10:01 pm in reply to: In Defense of Timewave #224187 Ben SaundersParticipant I’d rather marathon VIII than watch Timewave once November 8, 2017 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Quanderhorn Xperimentations panel at MCM London with Rob Grant #224168 Ben SaundersParticipant Clicked on the video to check what Rob is looking like these days. Couldn’t fucking recognise him and had to figure out who he was by process of elimination. Time is a harsh mistress. November 8, 2017 at 8:17 pm in reply to: What if Red Dwarf started at series VII? #224167 Ben SaundersParticipant Thanks Seb. Tikka is still fucking amazing so I’d probably still really enjoy it November 8, 2017 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Jawscvmcdia’s Totally Fucking Pointless Questions Thread – Submit Your Own #224166 Ben SaundersParticipant How do you think the show would have been different if Kryten (played by Robert Llewellyn) was a Yorkshire Terrier (played by Robert Llewellyn’s Yorkshire Terrier) ? November 8, 2017 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #224130 Ben SaundersParticipant FAECES LEAK November 8, 2017 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Revisiting Series I with fresh eyes #224129 Ben SaundersParticipant Hot dogs are nice but everybody knows they’re made of chicken feet and gristle November 8, 2017 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Revisiting Series I with fresh eyes #224128 Ben SaundersParticipant To be fair, none of us have ever experienced anything on the magnitude of waking up 3,000,000 years into the future with everybody you ever knew or loved having died, so we don’t really know what a “normal” reaction would be. I always thought he was being incredulous though, and the scene is very funny, so I give it a pass. He does get a bit mopey about everyone being dead later on. November 7, 2017 at 8:08 pm in reply to: In Defense of Timewave #224075 Ben SaundersParticipant I balk at “objective”, but “consensus level”, maybe. 99 out of 100 people can laugh at something, but that doesn’t mean the one person who didn’t is “wrong” for not finding it funny. They just didn’t find it funny. Of corse nothing is ever 99/100. Or 100/100. November 7, 2017 at 6:31 pm in reply to: In Defense of Timewave #224067 Ben SaundersParticipant There is no possible defense of Timewave, delete this post now. It’s better than the shite extra verses Howard showed us on the VI DVD. November 5, 2017 at 10:19 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223890 Ben SaundersParticipant SLASH: Rimmer accidentally joins Grindr, to find that the only other remaining active member of the app is… Dave Lister November 5, 2017 at 10:17 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223889 Ben SaundersParticipant The altercation with our future episode ideas caused dimensional anomalies which have expanded this thread by 212% November 5, 2017 at 10:16 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf theme tune covers #223887 Ben SaundersParticipant It’s the Hu and Lambert version I was talking about, hahaha. Shite. November 5, 2017 at 9:40 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223878 Ben SaundersParticipant BLOCKQUOTE: Rimmer doesn’t know how to quote somebody on a popular sci-fi forum and repeatedly makes an arse of himself November 5, 2017 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223877 Ben SaundersParticipant Kochanski’s tits, November 5, 2017 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf theme tune covers #223876 Ben SaundersParticipant There’s a horrible shitty version of the theme they keep playing at the cast’s convention appearances with the most unconvincing guitar solo you’ve ever heard. Breaks my heart. I’d refuse to appear unless they sorted it out. November 5, 2017 at 7:52 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223844 Ben SaundersParticipant Who is Jacob Williamson? November 5, 2017 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223842 Ben SaundersParticipant Rimmer tries to convince everybody that the latest episode of their favorite TV show was, in fact, shite, despite everybody else loving it. They all think he’s a boring old sod but he believes his arguments to be foolproof. The episode lasts two weeks. November 4, 2017 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Bad Continuity in Gunmen #223731 Ben SaundersParticipant It is a bit Terrorform II in places. Feels a bit Meltdown too, mostly because of the jail+music. November 4, 2017 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223706 Ben SaundersParticipant TIMEWAVE: Doug Naylor shits directly into your mouth for twenty-seven minutes. Johnny Vegas guest stars as PC Poof. November 4, 2017 at 1:44 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223705 Ben SaundersParticipant LEMONS: The Dwarfers build an IKEA flatpack time machine and meet not-Jesus, then take some cheap and easy swipes at religion we’ve heard a hundred times before instead of doing something actually clever because fucking hell. Then there’s some shite with bags that makes me want to die. Everyone loves it and it is hailed as a classic. November 4, 2017 at 1:36 pm in reply to: What if Red Dwarf started at series X? #223704 Ben SaundersParticipant Also, get Flight of the Conchords season two down your gob RIGHT NOW. The songs were better in S1 but the actual show is better in S2, imo. November 4, 2017 at 1:35 pm in reply to: What if Red Dwarf started at series X? #223703 Ben SaundersParticipant Shows I’ve come to love almost as much as Red Dwarf in recent years include Chuck and Peep Show, but I did start watching Chuck when I was like 15 and Peep Show when I was like 17 so I was still at a young and impressionable age. I can’t really think of a show I’ve latched onto in quite the same way that has happened in the past five years. I’ve started to appreciate Classic Doctor Who a whole lot more, and have more discerning opinions on NuWho other than “I enjoy it”, but I watched both from a young age as well. November 4, 2017 at 1:30 pm in reply to: Idea for an episode. #223702 Ben SaundersParticipant TROJAN: Lister is betting on live pig racing for some fucking reason (is it live or pre-recorded? If it’s pre-recorded, why is he betting on it? Who is he betting against?) and completely defies logic when he phones up a shopping channel 3,000,000 years into deep space in order to purchase a shit kitchen appliance, leaving the audience bewildered and wondering if they’d tuned into the wrong show that just so happens to have exactly the same cast and title. November 4, 2017 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Bad Continuity in Gunmen #223701 Ben SaundersParticipant Alright, actual bad continuity (maybe): the Simulant ship gets blown the fuck up in Gunmen, but is intact (on the outside) in Rimmerworld. I did think they cut away from the explosion distractingly quickly in Gunmen, but now I’m thinking it was deliberate. I’m actually quite taken aback that we have real episode-to-episode, non two-parter continuity between two non-consecutive episodes in a series of Red Dwarf, with the same models and actors and everything. I hope it wasn’t laziness/cost effectiveness because I really like it. November 3, 2017 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Revisiting Series I with fresh eyes #223668 Ben SaundersParticipant Do you have a link to your modelling portfolio, by any chance? November 3, 2017 at 11:09 pm in reply to: Series XII – preferred order #223667 Ben SaundersParticipant The Formica shit really drags it down, and I’m not fond of the guest cast, but Samsara is a worthy episode imo. November 3, 2017 at 11:08 pm in reply to: What if Red Dwarf started at series X? #223664 Ben SaundersParticipant That’s interesting. Honestly, for this i have to look at the quality of the first two episodes, because if I’m not enjoying something after two episodes I’m likely to drop it (see: Back on Channel 4). Trojan was pretty good, I think we can (almost) all agree, but it opens with that DIRE pig racing shite, and has the awkward and not-particularly-funny phone-line stuff. But then it does have MOOSE! Fathers & Suns… was good, but as Trojan sort of relies on you knowing about Rimmer’s relationship with his brother(s), Fathers relies on your knowledge of what happened in Ouroboros. Or does it, really? Lemons probably would have made me drop the show because it was shite, but Entangled and Dear Dave were decent, and the Beginning was good. So I think I definitely would have kept watching and enjoying the show, but would it be the classic I consider it now? It’s very hard to say. November 3, 2017 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Toxic masculinity is preventing some men from wiping their bums properly #223644 Ben SaundersParticipant Not enough November 3, 2017 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Bad Continuity in Gunmen #223643 Ben SaundersParticipant For YEARS I thought Chris Barrie wasn’t wearing an H in that infamous VII publicity shot, and that his forehead was just incredibly shiny. November 2, 2017 at 1:44 am in reply to: Bad Continuity in Gunmen #223539 Ben SaundersParticipant Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmnm do they say it in dialogue? I must have missed that line. It actually would make sense given the whole silent running thing. So was it a cock up quickly covered up with last minute dialogue, or not a cock up at all? November 1, 2017 at 9:02 pm in reply to: Bad Continuity in Gunmen #223529 Ben SaundersParticipant Was it really, hahaha. It did feel a bit tacked on, honestly. But it doesn’t really fix the continuity error because he still changes jackets at the end of the episode. Was all the blue jacket stuff pre-record ( or the red jacket stuff) or did they realise midway through the recording and change jackets like idiots? November 1, 2017 at 8:33 pm in reply to: Don’t put Vicks VapoRub in your vagina #223524 Ben SaundersParticipant I nominate this user for banned status November 1, 2017 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Toxic masculinity is preventing some men from wiping their bums properly #223523 Ben SaundersParticipant That is one of the worst “articles” I have ever read and I want to stab everybody involved with it But then again I am just another toxic male. Fucksake. November 1, 2017 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Unbroadcast sitcom pilot directed by Ed Bye surfaces on YouTube #223512 Ben SaundersParticipant He’s better at it than Craig Charles is these days. November 1, 2017 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Which do you prefer, Clare Grogan or Chloë Annett and why? #223511 Ben SaundersParticipant Oh, that makes sense Lily. I mean it’s stupid, but it makes sense. Why is it like this? Do we have a team of boffins working tirelessly around the clock to sort it out or should we just deal with it?
