Thanks, Jon, for posting that. Reading it, I forgot all about listening to the radio show. NPR here played it, and I tuned into it and the Star Wars radio show weekly. I think I was the only nerdy kid in my podunk little country town that had any appreciation for them.

It wasn’t very interactive, but it was nice to see it. It made me think about reading the series again this summer, when I’m out from college. I haven’t read it in years.

If we’re talking older quotes, my daughter and I often use “It’s a banana”, “You can’t have my shiny thing!”, “This is mine… and this is mine…”, “Mind that bus — what bus? SPLAT!”, the “Little Fishy” song, and “How am I looking today?” I guess the majority of these are Cat quotes because he’s her favorite character.

    >>I’ve occasionally wondered how often the crew members “update” their hologram discs. Does Rimmer even have a memory of his last few days? Or is he just aware that he’s died because he’s been told and seen the video?

I have wondered this exact same thing. My theory keeps coming back to him having a memory gap, and he only knows what he does because of Holly’s input.

    >>Why was a vending machine repair man charged with something so important / potentially hazardous as mending a drive plate?

The theory of JMC being nasty, cheap, bastards is a very good one. I’ve thought that maybe he managed to get the task somehow to prove he was promotion material, then obviously failed miserably at it.

I’ve also wondered this: knowing that advanced vessels like ships and airplanes, etc. usually have several feedback loops to detect malfunctions to give ample warning of an impending breakdown or disaster, why wasn’t Red Dwarf better equipped with that kind of thing? I know the book gives us an outline of how things supposedly failed, but it just seems like it should have been more complicated than that. Artistic licence won out, I guess.

Not sure if it’s our player or Netflix, but the hubby started watching the series again, and for some reason the show looks as if it’s on film, rather than shot in video. It looks that way (so far) in the first two series. I hate the look. I’ll stick to my DVD’s, thanks.

I’m not really sure, but I do recalling hearing the name of the series through the years and maybe saw bits and pieces here and there. I didn’t actually get interested in the series untill 2008 when the hubby started watching it on Netflix, and then I kind of got obsessed with it. I worked for him, so I got to watch I-VIII sitting on my butt at work over a week’s time.

@Pecos…I don’t think there’s a charge for any of the ferries, at least not the Bolivar and the Lynchburg ones. There’s another over at Port Aransas that I’ve never been on, but I don’t think they charge for that one, either.

Galveston is looking great for the rebuild after Hurricane Ike. If anything, it got rid of a bunch of the old buildings on the Seawall and forced them to build much nicer, modern ones that brought it up to speed with many of the other touristy shorelines. (I still prefer Key West for the water, though. We call the water here the Gulf of Yoo-hoo.)

I honestly think it’s a bit of both, Sam. They feed off the negativity, saying that it only proves their [twisted] point. They cause controversy because it gets them the attention they want to further their hate mongering. In that sense, I would consider them to be dedicated trolls, but with an actual point. Most trolls don’t have one, their just bored and like to stir the pot.

(Not quite sure I understand the context of “Kentuckian” here. Are you Kentuckian, because I’m Texan.. but close enough.)

What I think is funny is the whole misconception that Texas is nothing but semi-desert plains full of cactus, cattle, and oil wells. That’s only true for about a third of the state. One third is grassy, rolling plains, the other densely forested rolling hills. The part about the cactus, cattle, and oil wells is mostly true, though. :P

I’ve gotten *coff* downloads from a place *coff* and am about to watch them all in a row. With watching the DVD’s, I like the continuity of sitting and watching them all at once to get a better feel of the flow of the stories, and I haven’t had that opportunity lately.

As for the DVD, I *will* be getting an official copy to add to my collection. I know people gotta eat. (And the copies are crap, anyway.)

Sure, he felt good in the pressure of battle, but in a return to everyday life, I think his basic smeghead personality will be unchanged. If anything, he may feel more in competition with Lister since they’re closer in social strata, and Lister has a good chance of passing an engineering exam at some point – there’s fodder there IMO. And he hasn’t been a proper coward since “Rimmerworld” anyway, so that’s not new, at least.
Also, that bitch queen from hell is still his mother, and she’s given him plenty of remaining issues. Unless he finds out he was the product of the gardener and the scullery maid. ;-)

    This…

Rimmer is a combination of nature and nurture. The fact he found out his father wasn’t actually his father after all may have cleared a few cobwebs away in the battle but it doesn’t change his upbringing, personality or instincts. At his age, they are mostly hardwired into him, I would suggest.

and this. Pretty much my exact thoughts on the subject.

Agreed, Annie. Instead of pissing and moaning about why I don’t have it, I’ve learned with a little patience and perseverance, I still get to watch it eventually. I don’t view the delay as unfair, but just something to be expected. Hell, it’s always been that way for us. Why would RDX be the exception to the rule?

I can honestly say that I don’t know who this guy is, but it appears he can barely hear himself over the sound of his own ego. I can taste the bitterness from here. Obviously, I haven’t missed anything.

I knew it would be next year, just not when. I thought there might be some kind of projected date or something by now. Oh, well. At least I’m able to see it and not have to wait until then.

Still no word on Amazon US about release dates. Total suckage.
