Should I TiVo it because it has potential, or because it’s a trainwreck? I’ve been interested in it, if for anything watching the pretty people.

PBS stations are funded in various major cities, usually in connection with major corporations, both private and public, and major local colleges or universities. They have fund raisers twice a year to help with local costs. I think that each station is independent, and can choose to air what it wants when it wants, hence the reason why what you may see in New York may not air in Houston. I know Houston never aired BTE, and hasn’t had any RD eps. on in years, yet we get Doctor Who (usually several months behind) and Downton Abbey, among others. It irks me how they will show some things right after they air in Britian, but other things months or even years later. I’m not sure if it has to do with the powers that be or money, but I’m pretty confident that it’s not a cash issue. :/

I don’t know if this is of any importance to you, but the edits for the versions shown in the US are different from the ones shown in the UK. I started watching Red Dwarf on Netflix before I bought the DVD’s, so was very surprised to find that scenes had been cut or sound effects added/altered. I remember being told at some point that it was something done for our PBS stations, but I don’t have a clue as to why.

I’ve been watching Craig’s show for about 4 years now. I love the man. He’s the only late night show I watch now. I knew him from Drew Carey first, then watching RD one day, kept thinking I knew that Confidence guy from somewhere…

I think Ben Paddon has been to one of his tapings, the first night he had Matt Smith on, but I could be remembering wrong…And the Doctor Who opening did eventually get shown, like two weeks later. It was great. :)

Yeah, they do that, and I’m not sure why. You’ll get a series, for example, MI-5 (Spooks), that will have Seasons 1-4, not 5, then 6-whatever. It’s frustrating and very irritating. I’m wanting to rewatch Quantum Leap, but with nearly half the first season missing, I’ve passed for now.

I do know they had a contract with Starz, who was the owner (or whatever) of a lot of movies and older series, but for whatever reasons, the contract has not been renewed, so a lot of the movies and series that are on there now may be going away later on in the year. Whatever committee is in charge of negotiating contracts with the various companies for rights to instant play has not been doing their job very effectively in the past couple of years. I know there have been major complaints from a lot of customers, but so far, we’ve managed to dodge the bullet. The worst problem we had is that our Roku box went out right after the warranty expired. (That was to be expected, of course. *eyeroll*) I’m wishing we could afford Hulu Plus, which is available through the same box as Netflix. I could catch up on all the eps of Big Bang Theory I’ve missed. :/ Amazon also has a service with the same box, but it requires a Prime membership. Some of the shows are free, but many are PPV.

I’ve been using Netflix for about 4 or 5 years. They’ve been in the news lately for crappy business decisions, but for the most part, I have no complaints about their service. We get a lot of foreign and UK shows that otherwise we’d never see. Netflix is where I discovered Red Dwarf.

Yeah, it was the old school stuff from the early 90’s. It was really cute when he said it. I guess it’s a testament to how often we played the Sega. The hubby was a master at Sewer Shark, and me and my best friend were big into Columns. The hubby and me mostly played Toe Jam & Earl together. I still have the console and some of the games around, but I refuse to play TJ&E without the Game Genie, and I’ve yet to get off my butt and find another one.

Sadly, my daughter is addicted to the Twilight crap not-real-vampires and my husband to Star Trek Voyager, which IMO, both suck badly. I could bitch and moan about how fed up I am with hearing/watching something I find utterly boring, but I don’t (very often, although I do express the wonderment of how they could possibly like it). I’m the one who is re-watching every episode of Red Dwarf every couple of months, so I really don’t have much room to say anything. We all have shows in common we like to watch, and we all have other ones we don’t, so nobody is “forbidden” to watch any one show in particular.

BUT…if I have to hear that Chakotay has the bridge one more time, I may kill someone.

Trust me, nothing annoys me more than the morons that stand in the middle of the walkway and carry on a conversation like they’re the only people that exist. Take it to the side, people!!! Houston doesn’t have a subway system, but my friend has used it in New York, so she’ll have a better idea of what to do than I will. She’s pretty good about figuring how to get from A to B.

We have a couple a few IMAX theaters in Houston, but I haven’t been in awhile, much less to see anything in 3D, so if I don’t get around to it before then, we might go. The last 3D movie I saw (I kid you not) Amityville Horror 3D. Not much in the movie actually scared me but the pipes going through the windshield. My grandma was snoring through the whole thing. BFI sounds real good. :)

Gen — I forgot about the London Eye. An absolute must. We’re big into amusement parks, so that will be done, regardless. Also, if you’ve got something going with your band when we’re there, we’d love to come. Both of us are nominal musicians ourselves, so we’d love to see what you’re doing. Neither of us are much into heavy metal, so we’re all good. :)

Museums are always cool…they’ll be a change from seeing the same ones we have here. I don’t even go anymore because everything is boring now. I’d like to see the National Portrait Gallery, for sure.

Great suggestions, everyone, keep it up. I’m making a list…

True enough, but I was saying that tongue-in-cheek. I’d usually end up with the person that pulled a word out of thin air that I’d never heard of, but that was several years ago. We used the OSPD (Official Scrabble Players Dictionary aka ‘The Scrabble Bible’), so if it wasn’t in there, it wasn’t playable. I have no idea what the official dictionary is now, but we usually do what Seb does here at home. I’m curious what is going to constitute as a “dictionary” for the new rules.

    >On the one hand, this notion appalls and disgusts me.

I wouldn’t say that exactly for myself, but I’m with you…I can’t see playing that way. It creates too many issues with legitimate names, spellings, etc. I probably won’t play it, either. It makes me wonder if they’re going to change the number of each letter available or change the scoring on the board, too.

Awesome treasure! I wish the quality was better. I wonder why some of these weren’t included on the DVD’s?

Very nice. And yes, Kryten is way too short, but I can definitely overlook that.

Damn, hubby’s Open DNS blocks that website…grrrr. I’ll have to work it out later today. Bummer.

My mom has always been a redhead (“Sure it’s *ahem* natural!”), my best friend is a redhead, and I have other family members who are, too. (I think it’s also my sister’s color of the week.) My son loves women with red hair. I never understood why some people had an issue with this. I think the color is beautiful. Good for you for putting the woman in her place. ;)

We can’t be all that bad…at least we realized before it actually aired that it was crap and spared a lot of people the torture of watching it.

Good punt…I’m not so sure I could have thought fast enough to pull that off. I can’t say I’ve ever had one of those moments with email, but I have put my foot in my mouth plenty of times. So often in fact, nothing specific comes to mind at the moment. :/

LOL Awesome! I would’ve paid to see that.

The girl is a freak, but you can’t deny she has a really good gimmick going for her.

    I echo that…
