I was under the impression that if something is filmed in 25p and the wrapped into 50i for broadcast purposes, it still retains the look that the progressive filming gives it despite the 50i final product. For example Doctor Who, despite technically being a 50i product by the time it hits the air, it doesn’t have interlaced hallmarks etc. That’s why I thought it stood out from the credits. Obviously not an expert on this myself but that’s my limited understanding

When aired on TV, all BBC content is output at 1080i50 fps. Whilst Doctor Who is (most likely – I don’t actually know) now filmed at 1080p25, once it is brought into the edit and formatted for broadcast it will be processed into a 50i timeline. They probably do the credits at this point, resulting in the fluid, interlaced look the credits have, much like sport or soap opera footage. The actual episode footage itself remains looking “filmic” and progressive, despite being squashed into the 50i project. So the only thing that is “truly” 50i is the credits, hence why they stick out.

Basically; Episode shot at 25p > brought into 50i project > credits created in 50i > whole episode airs at 50i.

At least that’s what I think, might all be rubbish.

This sounds particularly hideous. How could that go on for more than one episode? Seems very “When the Whistle Blows” A-la Extras.

I wonder if Norm will invent an app to get his ball back…

Just watched the corrections episode.. the “up next” gag in the credits had me in absolute stitches. A fitting end to a very enjoyable series, and I thoroughly look forward to this years episodes.

I personally really enjoyed it. It was a very self-aware episode but it felt like it was allowed to be, had trademark I.T Crowd gags and memorable lines I’ll be chirping out for days.

Personal highlights: Small-person racist, and when Douglas smashes the window in on his own car.

I live on the south coast of Spain and there’s an abundance of Indian restaurants.. along with an abundance of English tourists occupying them in the Summer months. I’m fairly confident I’m classed as a regular in most of them, which says something about my diet.

Special mention goes to my favourite, ‘Balti Towers’ for it’s enticing flavours and cringe-worthy name.

I’m glad the reveal of Capaldi somewhat took attention away from how diabolical the actual show itself was. What a wasted concept – half rate celebrities getting facts wrong (I’m looking at you Rufus Hound!) stretched out for an agonizing half an hour. The programme could have easily been 3 minutes long and done the same job. Come on beeb, make a bit more effort for the anniversary of one of your flagship shows.

Has anyone seen this impeccably done fan trailer for the 50th anniversary?

I like to think of myself as being quite savvy when it comes to these things, but I must admit I was fooled at first into thinking it was genuine. It’s near perfect and to be honest, some of the effects rival the programme itself. I did think there was something awkward looking about Matt Smith and the manipulation of his mouth, and Tennant’s hobble toward the start, apart from that I was gobsmacked.

The BBC better have something amazing lined up to rival that. Kinda now hoping the 50th is in the same vein as that trailer. I’ve been in support of a multi-doctor 50th however they do it, but if the episode is in the same style as that I think I could do with just Tennant and Smith.

(Also, on a derpier note, has anyone else ever noticed Tennant has the word Ten in it? Moffat will probably claim he’s been planning that.)

The Dwarfers almost find another Stasis leak and have to avoid their past selves in footage taken from earlier series’, until they realize the budget won’t cover it. The stasis leak timely disappears and Lister fucks a Portuguese tin opener instead.

Whilst dickhead is extremely entertaining by today’s standards, I’m sure the writers were at least trying to be a bit cleverer than just handing out puerile insults. Unfortunately, it would appear the wit of Rob and Doug isn’t very easily translated!

I’m in total agreement. The first 2 games of the series are just masterpieces in every shape and form – definitely a benchmark for other platformers – depth of story, intricate levels beautifully designed, interesting characters, the works.

Munch’s Oddysee is best described as a letdown. Oddworld Inhabitants were lured over to the Xbox to be exclusive with promises of better hardware and more freedom of creativity, and were then rushed and forced to downsize the game by almost half it’s original size, which was very costly. Despite this Munch was one of the pioneering games for the Xbox and a very recognizable launch title.

Stranger’s Wrath was certainly a step up from Munch in terms of quality, but it was Oddworld exploring a different genre, one which I’m not that much of a fan of. I got wind they were releasing HD updates of Munch and Stranger and the proceeds would be toward future games and naturally I immediately purchased a copy from the PSN, I’ve played it about once but it was nice to contribute to a company that was a great part of my childhood.

And New N’ Tasty is just going to be a dream. I can’t wait to get that nostalgic feeling play through those levels, I just hope it lives up to it’s expectations. To add to the bashing Microsoft have received at this year’s E3 they are giving Oddworld Inhabitants a lot of hassle trying to get New N’ Tasty onto their platform – The lack of support for self publishing indie developers on their console forces Oddworld Inhabitants to go through a larger publisher to release their game, something which doesn’t seem feasible for them at this time, despite Oddworld helping them to sell their console in the first place! Sort it out Microsoft.

Apologies if I’m starting a conversation over nothing. I loves a bit of Oddworld, me.

Ben, out of curiosity, have you ever played any games from the Oddworld Series? With the release of footage from the new HD remake of Abe’s Oddysee, I’d love to see you review such an iconic PS1 game. Of course if you haven’t played it, I suggest you do immediately!

I have an Atari 2600 along with the infamous E.T game. It truly is an abomination, there’s just seems to be no plot whatsoever. The game is an horrendous waste of time, baring no resemblance to the movie, it’s honestly like playing something a four year old made in a single evening. You can see why they ditched them all.

Also looking forward to the Angry Video Game Nerd movie after my interest in him has wained in recent years.

Excellent episode. Not sure if I’m being too generous on how good the actual content was due to the brilliant references to the classic era but who cares.

Just downloaded the episode to watch again. Ended up watching the first 2 minutes and last 2 minutes 8 times over and skipping the main body of the episode.

Does anyone really give an utter shit about Jenny and Strax and Madame Vastra anymore? I don’t think Moffat realises they are tired ideas and the characters are done with.

Edgar Wright is a fantastic director, and an excellent tweeter also. Of course no one can expect Pegg and Frost to stay in the obscurity of cult classics forever, but Paul just really didn’t hit the mark for me. I suppose it was a good American flick, entertaining at times, one to stick on the shelf, merely to receive the old ‘oh yeah i’ve seen that, it’s alright’. However, I was hoping for something more clever and memorable, witty and pleasing to watch like the gems that are Fuzz and Shaun. You can tell someone poured their heart and soul into those films to make them the best they could be.
