Those security questioned puzzled me for ages, i thought they were meant to be references from past episodes but i couldn’t remember any mention of a hover-car and first kiss,i managed to piece together the hover-car one but i am still puzzed about the first kiss one.

Thing about Norman is he has such an ego that its gonna have an effect on the character just like it did with series 8 where doug said norman didn’t wanna do exposition and just wanted to do jokes, well he got that and norman spent alot of time after complaining about the drop in quality, presumably because the fans were not talking about how awesome he was in series 8

So if norman returns as holly which he probably will i fear his ego will float over the character head and doug will have to appease that ego.

Although i will say the stuff in Samsara with Cat talking about history and getting it wrong could easily have come from the holly character instead and would have actually maybe fit holly better than cat, but than its the whole writing a dumb character.

I don’t really have a favourite out of the two but i am pretty sure if holly makes a return it will be Norman.

I don’t think Doug wants to bring hattie back, mostly because i don’t think he knows how to write for her compared to norman.

I noticed they changed the controls for the first level with starbug flying through the astroid field, now you both control starbug and fire which has removed the button smashing and i am kinda disappointed as i enjoyed the touch screen shooting at objects

Honestly i think Series 7 having a decent night’s sleep and a serviceable breakfast is one of the problems with Dwarf after Series 6, there isn’t any particularly good about Series 7 that helped from the show having a good lay in.

So yeah say what you like about Series 6 but it still contains some of the best gags that have gone down as classics in the shows history, something that series 7 doesn’t really have alot of, or at least i can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Seris 6 very much depends on the crew sitting in the cockpit taking on whatever space thing that’s happening at the time but there is still some of what made series 5 great in there with the quick wit and storytelling, so is still there so I’d still take another series 6 over 7,8,BTE,10 and probably 11 as well if honest

Chris is at that point in his career where he has less of an ego then he used too in the early 90s since now days every time there has been new dwarf he has said he felt it has been some of the best red dwarf they have ever done, and yes he said that about BTE also, he likely has success tinted glasses on for the show these days

Its likely oddly enough in an interview Doug did a few weeks ago he for some odd reason seems surprised by the fact people still wanna know what happened after Series 8 thinking that the joke in the beginning was gonna stop people asking but no this is a show where people likely prefer continuity and consistency believe it or not

Well apparently many expected it to be explained which is why all this confusion started in the first place.

i was expecting Doug to give his explanation in that interview but he just said they were not listers kidneys.. well we could have guessed that doug but that leaves the question of what were they doing there then.

Because the thought the design of the prison looked futuristic and cool i guess.

Its funny because in Krytie TV lister isn’t allowed his guitar strings for safety reasons but then there is a shot of lister and kryten talking while looking down at a 200 foot drop.

Really i think the movie was a driving force for Doug to continue making this show, infact Series 7 and 8 both feel like testers for a movie with series 7 not being filmed infront of an audience and having orchestric music, while 8 brought the crew back which the movie was gonna be a reboot and was likly to have Hollister and Co in and Doug attempted a 3 part story for the first 3 episode which was film length

If Red Dwarf had stopped after 6 it probably would have came back in some form or another, whether rob would have been more likely to come back or not who knows

As for keeping the show alive with Series 7,8 and the remastered… thats a tricky one, yay to keeping the show alive but they still sorta feel like bumps in the road.

Well they are in a classified prison onboard the ship thats on a need to know only basis, i guess its just lucky the vents take them to wherever they need to go on the ship ;p

And somehow the captain of this mining ship spends most of his time dealing with 2 prisoners from a classified prison… surely you would have someone else to deal with that stuff while you have other captain duties to take on ;p

It does feel like a star trek or star wars novel in some ways where gelfs, robots and holograms stand in for aliens and Doug fully takes advantage of as many other characters he can fit in as possible.

Infinity welcomes careful drivers is a great novel, better than life has a slight tone change towards more complex sci-fi but it is still pretty damn good, last human and backwards both are decent but both feel like there is something missing

Thats a tricky one as did Series 7 and 8 live up to the past 6 seasons to the point it makes them worth existing, i dunno how to answer that one, they are bumps in the road of the franchise and BTE wasn’t all that amazing either.

But we as fans always want more no matter either way.

2 minds are better than one so a Series 7 with Rob and Doug could only have been better than what we got.

Sometimes i can never shake off the feeling that Red Dwarf after Rob left is very much like Diet Red Dwarf, it doesn’t quite have the same kick as Rob and Doug Co-written Dwarf

Rob has mentioned the idea of writing a new red dwarf novel a couple of times but that was last mentioned quite a few years ago now.

Sadly while i could be wrong i doubt Doug has asked rob to come back at all, even though the bodysnatchers collection has shown they still get along pretty well it really comes down to whether doug prefers to write alone now.

Personally it think it was the success of the show that split them up, i think the show had become so big at that point with winning awards and going to america that the writers were really on a high around that time so egos started to kick in abit.

Even doug was going through movie fever at that time, series 7 and 8 felt like testers for the potential movie project.

As for what would have happened if they never split… it is probably not worth thinking about.

I wouldn’t mind if they put money into clearing up the picture quality though, smoothing over some effect shots for example, i mean don’t give doug money to remaster it because we seen what happens there but just clean it up a little

These days with Red Dwarf i am more nervous when i hear about certain plots being made like an everyone is kryten episode or an episode about the cat being a virgin mostly in what the humour will deliver

like with the cat episode i don’t want alot of cheap sex jokes or overboard jokes about the cat being a virgin just because its never been mentioned before

and the kryten one… hopefully not as silly as it sounds

i think someone mentioned it above but i remember reading in an early fanclub magazing in 1998 where there was a poll about what people wanted for series 8 and “more comedy” won so i don’t know if that had an impact on the direction to make series 8 more spoofy but it certainly was a wrong one

I remember around 1999 to 2001 in the fanclub magazine there was a favourite series poll and the results were red dwarf 5 as the best series with red dwarf 8 as second best series… so looking at how the red dwarf 8 episodes have dropped quite low in peoples minds over time i’d guess it hasn’t held up very well

if you was gonna do the crew being brought back it should have been for 3 episodes at the most but overall i don’t think that was the major issue of series 8
