well I’ve never personally known GNP so quick to stop rumours or fakes, so I’m more leaning towards it being factual. yeah it’s wishful thinking, but it’s wishful logical thinking all the same!

    In the Future section.

EDIT… now that’s strange. I mentioned it just minutes prior on the official forum, and now it’s been removed?

    Hmm. Leak perhaps?

    > ?The End? – That?s not significant, THAT?S NOT SIGNIFICANT.

That made me laugh aswell, cause when I watched it without Doug it stood out to me aswell. Was expecting another “The Smeg it is!” comment, but it never came… started over reading into it for about 20 seconds.

And so far I’ve had 5 PM’s on the Dwarf forum asking where the Easter Egg is… noone can find it, muhahahahaaa!

It works on my Macbook :S how odd.. if in doubt, try VLC Player on it.

And as for another easter egg clue… it isn’t listed or an icon that appears by pressing right twice or something…

I wont say where, but it’s disc 2 and harkens back to a previous easter egg locations from a proper series boxset. It’s not the most wow part of the set to be honest anyways…

Interesting how the credits of the Directors Cut, as a result of being longer than usual, includes the clean portal music… wonder if that’s anything to do with everyone requesting it around this here site haha.

Randall & Hopkirk, now that was a series I think deserved at least one more series. Vic & Bob weren’t as bad as people made out I don’t think.

Plus it gave us footage of our current Doctor dressed as a homocidal maniac bride slicing things with chainsaws. Can’t say anything else has provided that!

I adore Futurama, and the straight to DVD films were very good, and have obviously sold well enough to generate 2 new seasons. I think Bender’s Big Score was one of the best stories the programme has ever told personally.

I knew it would come back properly at some point and give the now stale Simpsons a run for its money.

I’m finally watching Blade Runner now [got a HD DVD copy for 3 quid new], and regarding part one of BtE, the opening camera shot closing in on Lister through the ship’s window, is very very similar to the opening shot which closes in on the window in the Tyrell building.

So even slight things like that have been thought about.

Haha I think people enjoy slating VIII waaaay too much personally. It’s almost like people prefer to find faults and nit pick, then sit and just try and enjoy what they’ve paid for!

Two of my favourites are actually VIII episode… Cassandra, and Krytie TV [Yes, I said it, shoot me]… yes I admit, I have a lot of favourites, but these are still up there surrounding them.

Like I say, I’d rather take something at face value, and get what I can out of it, then sit and find why it’s not what it was 5-6 years previous. Things change and adapt, and I’m willing to go along with that. Never fell into the group of wobbly set, military gray / ocean grey fanbases. I’m in the ‘Dwarf evolves, and so I move with it’ fanbase haha.

Gonna watch it on iPlayer me thinks, but wasn’t aware it’d have an audience :S probably going to be a nostalgia trip rather than a revamp then.

Last time I saw Clunes was probably in that Goodbye Mr Chips, which I must admit he was very good in.

It’s certainly a comparison I never thought we’d ever be making… The Dwarfers and The Beatles…

Well to be fair they’re two entirely different products in my opinion… Blackadder is generally quite a sophisticated sitcom using words for comedy, Brittas is more of a physical sitcom, using slapstick antics to make the audience laugh.

If anything, and even this isn’t spot on, the closest comparison in styles would be Fawlty Towers. Lots of staff running around, customers being treat horribly, and the odd slapstick moment you just have to laugh at.

Is it not best to start from the beginning if you’re not really ontop of it all? I personally liked 4 and 5, but I would still reccommend starting from the start.

Fair point… although we are discussing this on a forum dedicated to a programme with more continuity errors then an episode of columbo. So they’re both well suited really when you think about it.

Perhaps the whole dream was brought on by dispair ink or something…

Well if the interview was anything to go by, it’s the latter team that decided to eventually bring it back on a cruise ship.

And as for bringing it back for the last 2 series, yeah it wasn’t the same standard. But at least they left it open, never liked the death angle at the time. Seemed a bit too much of a full stop. I prefer the “never say never” mentality in television, so an out right NO by getting rid of a main character like Brittas.

Although saying that, I’d prefer it to end then carry on without them. Which is why after season eight Scrubs is going to die a slow painful death I think, which is a shame.

I love Brittas. It’s that farfetched it’s funny, especially when someone is dying around every corner and noone thinks anything of it, cause Gordon has his dream.

I didn’t expect it to get the biggest reaction when being spoken about on a non-Brittas website, but I think it’s better then the reception it’s getting. It’s certainley not burning worthy!

Not many other sitcoms get away with crushing their main character to death, only for him to walk in come the next season perfectly fine, just half titanium inside! :P

Knowing Dwarf, chances are it’ll be in the style of what was shown in BtE. However that case is very good [excluding the fact it wouldn’t be a BBC DVD].

    > Thing is, the spine of the DVD boxes make up the RD logo, so wouldn?t adding another one on the end look kind of ? odd?

It’s a special, so wont go with the series spines.

Not only in my opinion was lack of audience down to budget, but I can’t really see an audience do it’s job properly when 50% of it was filmed on green screen… they wouldn’t have a clue what was going on!

Plus the plot would’ve been online quicker then a ‘celebrities’ sex vid. And that’s pretty darn quick!

And as for it fitting in within the series… it isn’t a series, it’s a standalone special. So for that reason alone I feel it doesn’t fit in anywhere. When Series X comes along, THEN we can rate the new standard…

I think with that they’ve just smegged up the scene, and then they’ve slowly come towards the minature messing about. And cause it was funny they’ve left it rolling until they stopped pratting about.

It still had its moments. Was the one episode to explore the Rimmer/Kochanski relationship, which was a typical Rimmer scene. It had a hint of wall breaking via Kryten reading the mission directive. Oh and of course a retro Dwarf opening bunk scene between Lister and Holly, and then Lister and Rimmer.

But I agree, the other half of the script was based on slap stick comedy which doesn’t work in Dwarf when it’s used so heavily. The whole whacking Lister with the fire axe, huddling around Rimmer to get him out, etc. Didn’t really work.

    > I WANT Red Dwarf to work. The new direction doesn?t scare me, but the desire to drag extended slapstick sequences along for the ride DOES.

Agreed. I loved some of the more dramatic moments in Back to Earth. Especially the relationship ark between Lister and Kochanski [who in my opinion was Chloe and not Kochanski, but the credits say otherwise]. But then when you think the most emotional scene in the trilogy was preluded by Kryten smacked in the face with rakes… hmm, doesn’t really work!

As much as it’s not approved of around here, I personally think the last Dwarf-eske episode he wrote was probably Cassandra. Was mostly the original crew, in a typical setting. Plus it used a theory of pre-determination that only Red Dwarf can handle properly.

Exactly, if the writing is of a good standard, then surely you don’t need that psychological blanket of built in laughter. Many sitcoms in my opinion have worked purely because you laugh and the laughter, and not at the material.

If they sort it out and use the Who formula, then it could ‘possibly’ be the best series to date [ironically said in BtE]. In which case a dated track would no longer be required.

All I saw during his music/dance scene was a hybrid of Rimmer and Brittas, but perhaps that’s just me.

As for outfits, Cat’s were as perfect as always. Lister’s literally was from earlier series. Kryten… well… yeah… And Rimmer wont go back, as he always changes. So he probably wouldn’t be in his BtE outfit anyway cause he’s been there, done that, worn the surgeons outfit…

in reply to: Digital Spy: Should Red Dwarf Return Again? #97115

I personally don’t see this desperate need for laughter… it’s as if people are clinging on desperatley to every part of the 90’s sitcom forumla and expecting Dwarf to replicate it, rather than move on with the rest of television in this decade.

I agree with the writing element, and that it may be wise to take a Doctor Who approach. Bring in other writers and have Doug there to help with the series ark, but other than that the look and audable feel of the specials I felt was merely the next step in Red Dwarf’s evolution.

I always said for several years that if Dwarf were to come back, that it would be amusing for them to skip out Series IX seeing the BBC didn’t like the idea, and so it came back as Series X just to cause even more smeg-like confusion.
