That’s the trouble with quotes – they tend to come out “offensive” instead of “funny” unless the other person knows it too…

No, it really wasn’t. I checked the site between 10am and 1pm on Friday (can’t remember when) and it was down with the custom 404 page. It was up later in the day though – I was at work at 5pm, so it must have been around before then, even if it broke again later.

We’re on opposite sides of the Atlantic, so it’s unlikely to both be “just us”.

It was just your customized 404 page when I looked at it, Andrew. Looked like someone had just not uploaded the front page.

Fuck Leela and Fry. We all know who the star is.

    Scruffy?

    Who’s he?

(I was so hoping someone would say Scruffy…)

Does anyone else always get intense joy at seeing Bender, arms raised it the air, shouting Woo!? It’s possibly one of the happiest things on TV.

I really like Red Dwarf, but in recent years have come to love Futurama (late 3-4) better, Yes Minster, Fawlty Towers…

Never felt the aftershock but did feel the original quake. We had one in August in Manchester, so I’m used to it now… I’m not sure scary is the word – let’s face it, it was only a minor tremor – it’s just a bit confusing as you think “hmm, why is my screen not staying still” and then wonder if it might be an earthquake.

The whole Tesco’s Muffin just annoys me. I mean how much effort would it have taken to get one without that on?

BT were using Timeslides to promote BT Vision in the Arndale Centre today. Some sad git was stood there watching it.

If I go through there tomorrow and they’re doing the same, I’ll tell them to choose a better episode (although I quite like it).

It was never going to be one of the highest grossing films of the last 10 years. IIRC it’s being predicted to do OK, but it’s not going to be the highest grossing of the year by a long way.

The music editing on that trailer was fucking awful, too.

The only other thing that springs to mind is Fawlty Towers – and I can recite that in my sleep too.

I got into some convoluted joke the other day about the “Sorry, a lot of the British cars have steering wheels” line.

First ep: Blue, the day after it was shown the first time.

Well maybe Doug should have gone for the $30m treatment then. Nah sod it, go the whole hog, $100m! This would cover Danny?s suits for the film at least.

DOUG: (into phone) Hello? (pause) (in disbelief) How much?
DUKE: (into phone) Sixty million dollars. I mean, do you want it all, or
    would something less be OK?
DOUG: (into phone) Well, erm, yeah, no, we could probably make a great film for around twenty million. But thinking about it, maybe sixty million could be the way to go. (pause) Yeah, no, sixty million is definitely the way to go.

The Big Breakfast was stupendous. It did lose something once Chris and Gaby had both left, […] but at its best, it was wonderfully made telly, that had a fun about it that most programmes don?t even attempt to do any more.

I was thinking about this the other day – things like Going Live used to be just fun programmes – you’d often hear the crew laughing with everyone else, no-one really took it that seriously and it was just a way to pass a couple of hours.

You just don’t get that these days, and it’s truly missed…

thomasaevans – your cinema isn’t doing it properly then. The Chris Moyles/Doctor Who is meant to start 5 minutes before the advertised start time, with the Carlton Screen ident being the official start of the programme. But the headers are still running at 25-30 mins after this, including the 5 or 6 mentions of ODEON…

Cloverfield is seriously fucking people up big time though. At my cinema we’d all kind of like to see it in IMAX, just to see if anyone was still left at the end…

Indeed – the news came through at work late last night (so many people called up to tell us!) and we were all shocked and gutted. He was clearly just entering the peak of his career – from what I’ve seen of it, his portrayal of the Joker is excellent – and it’s a pity he won’t be around to entertain us more.

I’m waiting for the Dark Knight preview at the beginning of I Am Legend. I knew there was a perk to working Boxing Day!

But, yes – Sweeney Todd did look good from the trailer, so I’m glad it’s similarly good as a film.

Actually, having seen it at the start of November, I have to say that while the 3D wasn?t particular ?in your face? it was very well done.

Well, each to his own. I suppose if you don’t see proper 3D very often it might look quite good. I’m not at all a fan of 3D “for the sake of it”, but I just think Nightmare lacks… well, any sort of point to being in 3D.

I?m looking forward to going to see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D.

Don’t get your hopes up. It’s not that good – the 3D was added afterwards and is largely unnoticeable.

It’s great in IMAX. Looks really nice. Plus the sound is always a plus with the IMAX. Feel your seat shaking! Nothing like Superman Returns, which as a “let’s add the 3D in later” type film, looked pretty awful – this is proper monster ripping 40 foot tall naked Angelina fun.

If you’re ever up in Manchester, Andrew, give me a shout and I’ll get you in. (I work at the Manchester IMAX)

I’m just waiting for Dark Knight. That’s going to be amazing.
