I’d like less “moody sets” – they look great, why light them in a such a way as to suggest power failure?

It’s ironic really given the amount of time given over to how the lighting was achieved on the DVD, which was really interesting if nothing else.

I don’t mind lose arcs, in the sense of series VI, but I think generally stand alone episodes are better.

And I know it’s difficult on a small soundstage, but I’d love a Starbug that really fells interconnected again, with a midsection you can see from the cockpit and the crew seamlessly moving between the two.

I’d love at least one episode that causes a the fandom to collectively shit itself over the controversy it causes.

Beyond Nan-archy –

The crew board a derelict and find the lady that says “gosh” in a stasis booth. Once revived she initially appears to be a sweet old lady who just wants to look after the crew. Once it becomes clear she has a rival in Kryten she starts to run amok, trying to over throw the over bearing droid from his position of sock darning power.

Tensions escalate, guerrilla warfare breaks out between the lady that says “gosh” and Kryten. Lister and Rimmer try to calm things down but neither side will listen. Eventually Kryten steals a tank from an AR game and blows the lady that says “gosh” to smitherines, blasting a hole in the side of the ship (and Pinewood Studios) at the same time.

Meanwhile Cat does some Cat things.

Obviously I don’t speak for everyone, but I don’t really see them as multi-parters, not in the same way as Back in the Red, Pete and BTE are.

They are 2 very distinct stories that happen to follow on in a serialised way, rather than 1 story specifically across multiple episodes.

The fact they are given distinct episode titles helps set them apart as well. And when discussed, they probably get swept up in the crapness of series VII debate.

I agree. And it’s a really annoying symptom of them cutting down the longer pencil model that would have had everything in proportion. It’s the nose cone that looks ridiculous, it’s like half the length of the rest of the ship.

I’m not sure I’d go as far to say I’d prefer a CGI Dwarf, although the one in BTE isn’t awful. But I feel they could touch the model up a bit to make it look a little less awkward …

Although now I say that, part of the charm of Red Dwarf (the ship) is that is is big, bulky and awkward.

TBF, there’s a lot that doesn’t make sense if we think about it too hard. Why was Frankenstien in the hold, when we’re shown her being hidden in Lister’s quarters.

This is has just lead me to a side thought … given Holister’s comments about The Oregon with the rabbits, it’s surprising the show doesn’t ever hint at the fact it might have been a stray cat that caused the radiation leak.

In fact, that could be the ultimate joke on Rimmer … it was never actually his fault but no-one is aware of that fact.

Is there anyway to turn the sounds off in game? Pretty sure I rubbed up against this with the last game, but I tend to listen to music on headphones whilst playing on the tube. Even with audio muted on phone, game audio seems to bypass and play through headphones along with music.

It’s not as though Red Dwarf hasn’t done this before, so it’s worth pondering whether the extended episodes of series 7 benefit from th extra material.

I for one really like the additional ending to Tikka, if only because it gives a rather neat explanation as to what happened to the curry and how they have more going forward.

There’s a joke in Starbugs cockpit in one of the other episodes that’s quite good, but otherwise the rest of the material can be taken or left.

I’d just worry that if Doug did get an extra 10 or 15mins it wouldn’t be used in the way we want it to be used. That’s to say, we wouldn’t get a nice exploration of plot or a satisfying ending, we’d just get more stuff thrown in the middle for the laughs.

Maybe they are both two sides of the same personality and we only see them come out in certain situations … but I honestly can’t see Lister actually falling for the sort of Kochanski we see in Series VII … maybe VIII but there’s very little character to see of her in those episodes unless a “ooooh a woman” joke needs to be made.

Dax – it definitely works much better on first viewing. Although seeing it recorded and then seeing it broadcast a year later had me in stitches both times. But now it’s the deliver and the anticipation of knowing what is coming that gets me every time. Maybe not rolling on the floor laughing, but certainly giggling like a little girl.

The Moose gag, and the punch line with Cat guessing and Danny’s delivery was absolutely phenomenal.

I was in the audience for that, and you could tell every was excited to be there but a bit apprehensive for what we might get. When that scene happened, relatively early on in the recording, you could sort of feel the tension in the room lift as every burst out laughing and relax, knowing that the Red Dwarf everyone had been hoping for was back.

Sure Dave era will, for many, not live up to the first 36 … but man they have been giving it a pretty strong go.

Re Give and Take … I absolutely love the start, and I love how it concludes, but the 10min bit in the middle with Lister just sat in a hospital bed … the way it’s written and shot just feels like your typical audience sit-com and very undwarfy to me.

Other than that it is a cracking episode.

As for personal favourite moments … it’s hard to pick. Lister talking to his dad/himself is up there, as is the “jesus” – “yes” line in Lemons … although that had been spoiled for weeks in trailers.

I don’t think Lemon’s changes anything for anyone as it wasn’t really Jesus. It is possible that India gets the bag earlier than they would have done, but it’s also possible that the Jesus we see invented the bag all along due to being kidnapped by future space bums.

Twentica I had forgotten about. They never fix the timeline do they, so presumably Earth history from their point of view has always had a prohibition on technology in the mid 20th century?

What bothers me about that joke is that they have clearly taken bits from different takes and stitched them together to make one long gag.

Next time you watch it look at Cat’s hand movements. He does the same thing from 3 different angles that looks like it’s taken from the last “margh” of each take, a kind of fed up this is so simple why is it taken Kryten so long to get it gesture.

I was living and working in the United States when three separate peoples opinions were combined into one. And it wasn’t until 2016 or 2017, on a return to the UK, when browsing the web one night, I came in the middle of this thread, clearly a science fiction thread, and at once to my horror and outrage saw what I thought was a rip off of three separate peoples opinions.

I was already reaching for the telephone to call my lawyer when something happened that made me laugh. And it was something that certainly wouldn’t have happened on another websites forum. SO I left the telephone where it was and I went on reading, and I think within a few moments I had got what the thread was, and I was laughing all the time.

For me, made it then and what continues to make this thread so appealing, is that at times it comes to close to my opinion, even if it is three separate peoples opinions combined into one and so delightfully makes a mockery of the kinds of opinions I have. I sometimes wish we could combine different opinions all the time.

Maybe they are only able to change appearance at will when the person observing them wants to see their true form.

They likely have an instinct which prevents them from revealing who/what they are as a self preservation thing as well as completing their purpose of providing pleasure.

It’s only when the crew all realise the truth that their desire to be pleasures wears off, and is over written by the desire to see Camille’s true form. Kryten’s is stronger than most as he still likes Camille regardless of form, so she is able to change for him and the rest of the crew can see it.

So perhaps the condition Camille’s husband is curing is that initial instinct to appear as the person who is observing them wants to see, allowing them to change at will for anyone regardless of those people’s desires.

Plex is usually pretty good with figuring things out, though does need some help from time to time. What I can’t fathom though is why it can’t distinguish between Classic and NuWho. I know it’s pulling data from elsewhere but looking at the complaints about it you’d have thought they’d have come up with a fix for it by now.
